Kinmen or Quemoy (/kɪˈmɔɪ/; see also "Names" section below), officially Kinmen County (Chinese: 金門縣; pinyin: Jīnmén Xiàn), is an island group governed by Taiwan which located just off the southeastern coast of mainland China, including Great Kinmen, Lesser Kinmen, Wuqiu and several surrounding islets. It is one of two counties under the streamlined Fujian Province of the Republic of China. Only about 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) west to the Chinese city of Xiamen, its strategic position has reflected the significant change of Cross-Strait relations from the battlefront line to the main trading point between two sides. Due to the ongoing issue of the political status of Taiwan, The People's Republic of China (PRC) has continuously claimed Kinmen as part of its own Fujian Province's Quanzhou prefecture-level city.
Kinmen was first named Jīnmén (金門; lit, "golden gate") in Chinese 1387 when the Hongwu Emperor of China's Ming dynasty appointed a military officer to administer the island and protect it from wokou (pirate) attacks. The name is pronounced Jīnmén in the official Mandarin Chinese and Kim-mûi in the native Zhangzhou dialect of Hokkien Minnan. The various names used in English for the islands derive from the Chinese counterparts.
The Kuomintang of China (/ˌkwoʊmɪnˈtɑːŋ/ or /-ˈtæŋ/;KMT, or Guomindang (/ˌɡwoʊmɪnˈdɑːŋ/) and GMD by its Pinyin transliteration, also translated as the Chinese Nationalist Party) is the current ruling political party in Republic of China. Following losses in the presidential and legislative elections of 2016, the party will become the official opposition.
The predecessor of the KMT, the Revolutionary Alliance, was one of the major advocates of the overthrow of the Qing Dynasty and the establishment of a republic. The KMT was founded by Song Jiaoren and Sun Yat-sen shortly after the Xinhai Revolution of 1911. Sun was the provisional president but he did not have military power and ceded the first presidency to the military leader Yuan Shikai. After Yuan's death, China was divided by warlords, while the KMT was able to control only part of the south. Later led by Chiang Kai-shek, the KMT formed the National Revolutionary Army and succeeded in its Northern Expedition to unify much of China in 1928. It was the ruling party in mainland China from 1928 until its retreat to Taiwan in 1949 after being defeated by the Communist Party of China (CPC) during the Chinese Civil War. In Taiwan, the KMT continued as the single ruling party until the reforms in the late 1970s through the 1990s loosened its grip on power. Since 1987, the Republic of China is no longer a single-party state; however, the KMT remains one of the main political parties, controlling the Legislative Yuan (Parliament) and most of the councils.

It is a hazardous task for ships trying to beat the Communist blockade of Quemoy. But it is a vital task if the Nationalist garrison is to hold out. Supplies are reported to be very short. Batteries have almost sealed off the island from help. When supplies DO arrive it is often with this result: a direct hit on a supply ship at the end of a long voyage. Mandarin/Eng/Nat The end of the Cold War has brought more than an easing of tensions between China and Taiwan - it is allowing Taipei to replace minefields on the fortress island of Quemoy. Later this month specialists will start clearing selected mine dumps and minefields on the island that were laid beginning in the 1950s to repel an invasion from China. On Friday, former Nepalese Gurkha soldiers demonstrated techniques they will use to clear the mines on Quemoy Island - also known as King Men Island. Quemoy lies less than three kilometres (1.8 miles) from the Chinese coast. But the old strategy of repelling an invasion force on land has been altered to preventing such a force from ever establishing a beachhead. In all, thousands of mines will be cleared - it's thought the first du...

Kinmen Sightseeing tour brief introduction
Quick look at what we did in Kinmen on our recent trip. We started in Taipei, took the plane from Songshan Airport and arrived in Kinmen an hour later. We rented two motor scooters, rode to Kincheng to have lunch and further on to Nanshan to check in at our guesthouse. From there we visited Shuangli Lake, the Kuningtou War Museum, and the Loudspeaker Wall at Beishan. Then we rode to Lake Ci and finally watched the sunset at Jiangong Islet. Was a great first day! This is probably the cheapest hotel in Jincheng, the biggest city on Taiwan's Kinmen Island. Hotels are not cheap here. I got this room for 750 Taiwan Dollars, or around $25. An example of a budget style hotel in Jincheng on Taiwan's Kinmen Island. I paid roughtly US$30 to stay here per night, it was pretty much the cheapest place in town.

I'm sittin' here thinkin' about you tonight
And all that you mean to me
I used to think I would never fall in love again
I guess I was wrong
When your heart was broken
When your wounded pride was laid to rest, baby
You'll never open your heart to anyone else you said
But you lied, I know you're lyin' tome
You see your mind might be made up, mmm
But your heart has got it's own plans
There's no one to blame for false pride, tellin' lies,
tryin' to hide
From feelin' the pain, I know you don't wanna feel it
There's nowhere to hide when the love is callin' your
name, yeah
From the dark, babe, nowhere to hide, baby
There's nowhere to hide, so let love have it's way
with your heart
When love calls, love calls, love calls your name
It's on my lips
And I wish that you were still here
To take me away with your kiss
And take me away from all this crazy, crazy
'Cause too many words have been spoken, mmm
Too many lies have been told, baby
You'll never do it again you told yourself over and
over and over
You're wrong, dead wrong, babe, yeah
There's nowhere to hide, mmm, when love is callin'
your name
In from the dark, baby, nowhere to run, girl
There's nowhere to hide, yeah, so let love have its
way, girl, with your heart, babe
Love calls, love calls
There's nowhere to hide, yeah, when love calls your
name
You fall apart, baby
Nowhere to hide, nowhere to run when love is on its
way, girl, to your heart, baby
When love calls, love calls your name, babe
Love's callin' your name, hey, hey
It's callin' out for, callin' out for me, baby
Love's on its way, baby, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm sittin' here thinkin' about you tonight
And how you make me feel
The sweetness of your touch
The softness of your voice, mmm
You make me wanna be a better man, baby
And I wanna thank you for calling me into your life
