Thrill has gone - Tom Walker ft. Jake Clarke (Live @ Adrian Boult)
Sir Thomas Basil Clarke, KBE (12 August 1879 – 12 December 1947) was an early pioneer of public relations and British government wartime propaganda expert. He also acted as a war correspondent in the First World War, later writing a book of his experiences entitled My Round of the War. In 2011 the Guardian newspaper reported there were plans for a biography of him.
Born in Altrincham, the son of a chemist, Clarke went to Manchester Grammar School and then onto Oxford University, where he studied classics and music. As a young man, he was a member of the Lancashire rugby union fifteen, despite the handicap of having only one eye, the result of an accident in infancy.[citation needed]
Originally, he intended to make a music career. Instead, his widowed mother persuaded him to take up banking, which he reputedly hated. For a year or so, he travelled throughout Europe, earning a living playing piano in cinemas and elsewhere. He won an appointment teaching English at Heidelberg University.
His entry into journalism apparently came after a chance encounter in a pub, where he joined in with some strangers as the fourth voice in a Gilbert & Sullivan quartet and was invited to write an article on musical appreciation for the Manchester Guardian. This article was greatly admired by a leading member of the Sunday Times and Clarke was invited to join this paper and after working there for several years, later joined the Daily Mail.
Antonia Christina Basilotta (born September 22, 1943, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), better known by her stage name Toni Basil, is an American singer-songwriter, actress, filmmaker, film director, choreographer, and dancer, best known for her multi-million-selling worldwide #1 hit "Mickey" from 1982.
Basil was born Antonia Christina Basilotta in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her mother, Jacqueline Jessica Anderson, was a vaudevillian acrobatic comedian in her family's act "Billy Wells and The Four Fays." Her father, Louis Basil, was an orchestra leader who conducted orchestras at The Chicago Theatre and at The Sahara Hotel in Las Vegas, among others.
Toni Basil had been dancing professionally since childhood, but her adult career started when she served as an assistant choreographer and dancer on Shindig!, a breakthrough music variety show which premiered on the ABC network in 1964. She was also assistant choreographer on the 1964 concert film The T.A.M.I. Show (Teen-Age Music International) choreographed by David Winters, which also featured fellow dancer and friend, Teri Garr. Some of her 1960s film choreography work include "Village of the Giants" (1965), "The Cool Ones" (1967), and the Monkees' 1968 film "Head", in which she is partnered onscreen with Davy Jones during "Daddy's Song."
