Broadcast is a weekly magazine for the United Kingdom television and radio industry. It covers a wide range of news and issues affecting the professional broadcast market in the UK. Broadcast has regular weekly sections covering news, commissioning, facilities, analysis, opinion, interview, platforms, production and ratings. Broadcast also often has a special feature covering an issue relevant to the industry. It is owned by British media giant Top Right Group, which counts Emap, 4C, Cannes Lions and i2i Events as subsidiaries. Broadcast previously fell within Emap, but at the start of 2013 it was separated off from the other Emap magazines to sit within the newly formed, Media Business Insight, another subsidiary of Top Right Group. Other titles within Media Business Insight include Screen International and Shots.
Broadcast was started in 1973 by Rod Allen, who went on to work at LWT, HTV and HarperCollinsInteractive. He was most recently head of the Department of Journalism at City University, London, until he retired in 2006. He still contributes occasionally to the magazine.
Broadcasting is the distribution of audio and/or video content to a dispersed audience via any electronic mass communications medium, but typically one using the electromagnetic spectrum (radio waves), in a one-to-many model. Broadcasting began with AM radio broadcasting which came into popular use starting with the invention of the crystal detector in 1906. Before this, all forms of electronic communication, radio, telephone, and telegraph, were "one-to-one", with the message intended for a single recipient. The term "broadcasting", borrowed from the agricultural method of sowing seeds in a field by casting them broadly about, was coined by either KDKA manager Frank Conrad or RCA historian George Clark around 1920 to distinguish this new activity of "one-to-many" communication; a single radio station transmitting to multiple listeners.
Over the air Broadcasting is usually associated with radio and television, though in practice radio and television transmissions take place using both wires and radio waves. The receiving parties may include the general public or a relatively small subset; the point is that anyone with the appropriate receiving technology can receive the signal. The field of broadcasting includes a wide range of practices, from relatively private exchanges such as public radio, community radio and commercial radio, public television, and commercial television.
Magazines are publications, usually periodical publications, that are printed or electronically published (the online versions are called online magazines.) They are generally published on a regular schedule and contain a variety of content. They are generally financed by advertising, by a purchase price, by prepaid subscriptions, or a combination of the three. At its root, the word "magazine" refers to a collection or storage location. In the case of written publication, it is a collection of written articles. This explains why magazine publications share the word root with gunpowder magazines, artillery magazines, firearms magazines, and, in various languages although not English, retail stores such as department stores.
By definition, a "magazine" paginates with each issue starting at page three, with the standard sizing being 8 3/8" x 10 7/8". However, in the technical sense a "journal" has continuous pagination throughout a volume. Thus Business Week, which starts each issue anew with page one, is a magazine, but the Journal of Business Communication, which starts each volume with the winter issue and continues the same sequence of pagination throughout the coterminous year, is a journal. Some professional or trade publications are also peer-reviewed, an example being the Journal of Accountancy. Academic or professional publications that are not peer-reviewed are generally professional magazines. The fact that a publication calls itself a "journal" does not make it a journal in the technical sense. The Wall Street Journal is actually a newspaper.
News Magazine was an Australian television series which aired from 1958 to 1960 on Melbourne station HSV-7. Hosted by HSV personality Brenda Marshall, little is known about the series, however it is notable as an early example of an Australian news series. It aired in a daytime time-slot on Tuesdays, and during its run the time-slot running time varied from 10 minutes to 20 minutes (assuming the series had a sponsor, the running time minus commercials is unknown). Archival status of the series is not known, however as few Australian newscasts are known to survive from the 1960s, the series may be lost, though this is not confirmed.
The episode broadcast 12 January 1960 aired at 3:30PM, against U.S. series Federal Men on GTV-9, while ABV-2 did not offer any programming until 4:00PM. The episode broadcast 3 November 1959 aired at 2:30PM and aired against U.S. series Dear Phoebe on GTV-9, while ABV-2 did not offer any programming until 3:00PM.

Dog Crashes live Russian news broadcast : Russian news anchor surprised One Russian news anchor had a rough day at work. Ilona Linarte was startled on camera after a black Labrador interrupted her live broadcast on Mir24 last week. In a video clip, which started to go viral this week, the canine can be spotted approaching Linarte before barking, causing her to turn around and meet her surprise guest.I’ve got a dog here,” she exclaimed in Russian. “What is this dog doing in the studio?” The mysterious dog, looking to get some more airtime, jumped up next to Linarte and climbed onto her desk before earning a friendly petting. The station revealed that the dog was on set for another show, but ended up getting loose.Unfortunately for the pooch, he didn’t earn a co-anchor role with Linarte...

This is a filmed record (not a kinescope) of the first actual "public" television broadcast in the United States. (There were perhaps three receivers capable of receiving the signal.) This show starts with the "live" portion (which has been filmed, rather awkwardly....it's sometimes hard to see the actual image being broadcast). Then there are some Pathé newsreels which were broadcast, followed by more live footage. A rather befuddled Ed Wynn vamps for a bit, and there are appearances by Eddie Green and George Wilshire, as well as The Pickens Sisters. This show was broadcast to the various RCA licencees, who were in attendance, watching on one of the receivers.. Some identify themselves on-camera.
