An entire chapter devoted to the malamati tradition describes its specifics, evolution and relevance to Sadequain’s art ... Possessing the courage to uphold the truth and suffer for it Sadequain was able to adopt many behroops or disguises in order to “awaken us to our values of culture and art.” This eclectic art was a “manifesto of liberation” which ultimately connected with the “primordial covenant between himself and Him.” ... The Path by Michael Puett & Christine Gross-Loh – how to turn your life around

Edit The Guardian 05 May 2016
They seem positively to disapprove of readers who view the Tao Te Ching of Laozi as a “martial arts manifesto”, even if that sounds like the sort of thing that would be distributed by canvassers for a presidential campaign by Jackie Chan (the one martial art the authors actually mention by name is judo, which is not Chinese but Japanese)....

Cate Blanchett: the messenger and the medium

Edit Sydney Morning Herald 26 Feb 2016
The great age of the manifesto was the first half of the 20th century, as modernism overturned the stale conventions of western art and literature ... The only exception is Claes Oldenburg's pop art manifesto of 1961, I Am For an Art… which is allowed to stand alone, albeit in a parodic mise-en-scene in which Blanchett plays a prim, bourgeois southern American housewife sitting her family down to a formal meal....

Manifesto review: Julian Rosefeldt's video works starring Cate Blanchett combine chant and rant without purpose

Edit Sydney Morning Herald 17 Feb 2016
The genre of the manifesto is important for art historians, who match art movements with any text by artists of the time. But art manifestos aren't always reliable, because they sometimes reflect youthful rhetorical impulses to denounce someone else's hour in the sun rather than forming a useful contribution to culture. Some manifestos propound a new ......
