The Natural History Museum is a whole world of wonder for both parents and kids. Most major cities have their own museum, such as the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, or the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh (two of my favorites.) When visiting, take your time and really study the various exhibits. From animals both modern and extinct to prehistoric life, and beyond; there are many fun learning opportunities.

In this department you will find fossilized animals,big and small, along with prehistoric skeletons. The dinosaur room was an exciting place for my classmates and I to visit, as kids. We saw Tyrannosaurus Rex, Stegosaurus and Triceratops, nature documentary,to name a few. Great fun for any child who loves nature documentaries,prehistoric stuff. Seeing the massive bones and the overall size of each animal, nature documentaries,seeing these exhibits will give kids the ability to imagine just how large these ancient creatures really were.nature documentaries
Archeology - Studying the ancient history of humans and their cultures,nature documentary
At the Carnegie Natural History Museum, nature documentary,you can actually watch the archeologists work on digging out artifacts ,out of a big, block of dirt. It is interesting to watch real scientists do their jobs in front ,of the public. When visiting the Cleveland Museum, scientists also dug out items from a large block of dirt, nature documentary,but at that time it was not public. nature documentaries,A friend of mine used to work for the museum and he gave me a tour nature documentary,of the basement, and the archeology workroom. Even as an adult, it left an impression on me.

By promoting your kids' interest in nature and science, you are giving them fuel to want to more know about these things later. UPDATE: LEO Zoological Conservation Center has named the newborn "Sandy Hope" in honor of the victims and families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy in Newtown, CT. We also will be inviting the families directly affect by the shooting throughout the summer, hopefully to put some smiles on their faces. With almost 7,000 name suggestions, we'd like to thank everyone for your support and encouragement!
Greenwich, CT — In the early morning hours on March 22nd at LEO Zoological Conservation Center, Petal, a 6 year old endangered Rothschild giraffe, began the early stages of labor. At 9.04am, after a relatively short labor, she gave birth to a healthy, female calf. Petal has bonded extremely well, was very attentive, and began nurturing her calf right away. Within 30 minutes of the birth, the calf was standing and nursing. Our new arrival was greeted by LEOZCC's herd of giraffe who were eagerly watching the birth.
Following an average 15 month gestation period, mother giraffes give birth while standing. Her birth marks a huge milestone for the low impact conservation center. This calf is the first giraffe born at the facility and quite possibly the first in Connecticut's history. The Rothschild giraffe, found in Africa, is classified as endangered on IUCN Red List and there are fewer than 670 left in the wild.
LEOZCC is a nonprofit, accredited conservation center and offsite breeding facility specializing in species at risk and conservation based education programs. LEOZCC is no stranger to newborns and is expecting more giraffe, tapir, kangaroo and primate births this Spring. For more information: www.LEOzoo.org.

When Giraffes Attack. All animals need their space and giraffes are no different. When boundaries are crossed giraffes can become defensive and may be put in a position to attack. Being attacked by a giraffe or any animal can be avoided by maintaining a safe distance. Enjoy nature safely everyone!

The giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) is an African even-toed ungulate mammal, the tallest living terrestrial animal and the largest ruminant. Its specific name refers to its camel-like face and and the patches of color on its fur, which bear a vague resemblance to a leopard's spots. The giraffe is noted for its extremely long neck and legs, as well as its horn-like ossicones. It stands 5–6 m (16–20 ft) tall and has an average weight of 1,600 kg (3,500 lb) for males and 830 kg (1,800 lb) for females. It is classified under the family Giraffidae, along with its closest extant relative, the okapi. There are nine subspecies, which are distinguished by their coat patterns.
The giraffe's scattered range extends from Chad in the north to South Africa in the south, and from Niger in the west to Somalia in the east. Giraffes usually inhabit savannas, grasslands, and open woodlands. Their primary food source is acacia leaves, which they can browse at heights that most other herbivores cannot reach. Giraffes are preyed on by lions, and calves are also targeted by leopards, spotted hyenas and wild dogs. Adult giraffes do not have strong social bonds, though they do gather in loose aggregations if they happen to be moving in the same general direction. Males establish social hierarchies through "necking", which are combat bouts where the neck is used as a weapon. Dominant males gain mating access to females, who bear the sole responsibility for raising the young.

Plot: Similar to "The Lion King" plot-wise but a far-cry away otherwise. In the African jungle, King Louis, is telling his son, the future King Louie, that someday he will inherit the throne of the King of the Jungle, and he must act accordingly. But young Louie's posturing and combined with his weak roar and small stature fails to impress the denizens of the jungle, and they all laugh at him. A huge gorilla appears and they quit laughing and scurry away while the gorilla attacks Louie's father. Will Louie save the day?

UPDATE: LEO Zoological Conservation Center has named the newborn "Sandy Hope" in honor of the victims and families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy in Newtown, CT. We also will be inviting the families directly affect by the shooting throughout the summer, hopefully to put some smiles on their faces. With almost 7,000 name suggestions, we'd like to thank everyone for your support and encouragement!
Greenwich, CT — In the early morning hours on March 22nd at LEO Zoological Conservation Center, Petal, a 6 year old endangered Rothschild giraffe, began the early stages of labor. At 9.04am, after a relatively short labor, she gave birth to a healthy, female calf. Petal has bonded extremely well, was very attentive, and began nurturing her calf right away. Within 30 minutes of the birth, the calf was standing and nursing. Our new arrival was greeted by LEOZCC's herd of giraffe who were eagerly watching the birth.
Following an average 15 month gestation period, mother giraffes give birth while standing. Her birth marks a huge milestone for the low impact conservation center. This calf is the first giraffe born at the facility and quite possibly the first in Connecticut's history. The Rothschild giraffe, found in Africa, is classified as endangered on IUCN Red List and there are fewer than 670 left in the wild.
LEOZCC is a nonprofit, accredited conservation center and offsite breeding facility specializing in species at risk and conservation based education programs. LEOZCC is no stranger to newborns and is expecting more giraffe, tapir, kangaroo and primate births this Spring. For more information: www.LEOzoo.org.

At some point in the future I will introduce you properly to the family mascot; our resident pooch. He is a disloyal, food stealing, baby waking, neighbour visiting, smelly trip hazard... but for some reason we keep him around. Baby #1, ignoring the dog. The dog came to live with us a year or so before the toddler was born ... Obviously, I try to discourage this as much as possible ... Sorry about that ...
