Samson - strength from the
Lord, but wild
14:3, 7 “she looks good to me” - from the Lord
14:5 killed lion
8-9 honey from lion, gave to parents, didn’t tell them
Unconcerned about God’s restrictions
16:1 harlot - tore doors of gate and posts
4
Delilah
7 bind w/ 7 fresh cords - unused strings, bowstrings
11 bind tightly w/ new ropes - something woven
13 weave hair
17 told her all in his heart, never cut hair, Nazirite
21 All his sins crash down on him at once
I. Sin Blinds You
A. Gouged out his eyes
1. Should have seen it coming
2. Thought he was immune from consequences
B. 2 Pe 1:5-9 Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, 6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, 7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our
Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.
1. Mt 6:23 But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
C. Heb 12:
1-3 since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. 2 fixing our eyes on
Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
II. Sin Binds You
A. Thought nothing could overpower him
1.
Overpowered by lust and vanity
B. Ro 6:16 Do you not know that when you present yourselves to someone as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?
1. Ac 8:23 For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bondage of iniquity.
2. Ro 7:14 For we know that the Law is spiritual, but
I am of flesh, sold into bondage to sin.
3. Gal 6:7-8 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the
Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
C. Binds other people
1. Ro 5:12-13 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned — 13 for until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
III. Sin
Grinds You
A. Gal 6:7-8 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
B. Depraved mind - Ro 1:28-32 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; 32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.
Ro 5:14-15
Nevertheless death reigned from
Adam until
Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come. 15 But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man,
Jesus Christ, abound to the many.
