Here’s a text summary of the video:
There’s over 2 million saunas in Finland. From sterile saunas of gyms to lonely shacks on the countryside. Most saunas are private but there’s also a persistent tradition of public saunas.
Lately there has been spawning new public saunas, and one of them was even mistakenly called “Helsinki’s first true public sauna” by New York Times. But let me show you a sauna that would really earn that title and even more.
Helsinki proudly presents, the most public sauna in the world – Sompasauna. Why is it worth the title? Because it is free of charge and always open. It is run by voluntary donations and voluntary work.
The smaller sauna is open also during winter. You just have to bring your own water and wood. For ice swimmers sauna is even more important during winter. Sompasauna is the only free option in town.
Mostly the place is for going to sauna but sometimes there’s more special events like after-parties or karaoke nights but on the video there’s a glimpse to the annual Sompasauna summer ball.
However, the sauna will close it’s diy doors soon – at least in this location. Within a few years the whole cape will be apartment buildings.
Sompasauna is looking for a new location, and surely the story of the world’s most public sauna will continue in one form or another.

Finland is a land of a thousand lakes and eternal forests, a land of log cabins and Orthodox churches - a midsummer’s dream in the extreme north of Europe.Helsinki, ‘The Daughter of the Baltic’, ‘The Gibraltar of the North’, a dividing line between east and west and a modern and liberal minded metropolis. Founded in 1550 by Swedish king, Gustav Vasa, as a trading centre, in 1812 Tsar Alexander The First made it the capital of the Principality Of Finland. Turku is the oldest city in Finland and is the country’s first capital city from where Finnish culture was born. It is still evocative of the Middle Ages. The sea, a magnificent island landscape and picturesque timber houses are typical of one of the oldest cities in the Gulf Of Bothnia, Uusikaupunki. It was there in 1712 that a peace treaty was signed between Russia and Sweden and this small, quiet town has a long maritime history. Further north is a town of seafarers and traders, Kokkola, of which the old town boasts the largest number of timber built houses in Finland. The cleric, Anders Chydenius, once lived here and laid the foundation of Liberalism, the freedom of both religion and trade. Oulu is the flourishing centre of Northern Finland. Along with its many green areas this city by the sea comes alive during the spring and summer months. Despite the harsh climate, tropical plants are popular in the city. The hilly landscape of the spacious Pallas Ounastunturi National Park is located in the north west, close to the Swedish border. Yellow-green reindeer moss and dense layers of many other varieties grow on the seemingly endless hills of primeval stone and gneiss. The plant life of this region always surprises those who encounter it for the first time. Finland is a country that boasts more lakes than any other. It is full of picturesque, natural beauty, unique cultural treasures and historic locations: a tranquil paradise set in the extreme north.

It has land borders with Sweden and Norway to the north and Russia to the east. Finland is part of the geographic region of Fennoscandia, which also includes Scandinavia and parts of Russia.
Finland's population is 5.5 million (2014), staying roughly on the same level with only about 9% increase in 24 years since the last economic depression in 1990. The majority live in the southern regions. The single largest group of foreigners living in Finland are Russians and Estonians, 36% of all of the foreigners (2014). In terms of area, it is the eighth largest country in Europe and the most sparsely populated country in the European Union. Finland is a parliamentary republic with a central government based in the capital Helsinki, local governments in 317 municipalities, and an autonomous region, the Åland Islands. Over 1.4 million people live in the Greater Helsinki metropolitan area, which produces a third of the country's GDP. Other large cities include Tampere, Turku, Oulu, Jyväskylä, Lahti, and Kuopio.

Finland is a land of a thousand lakes and eternal forests, a land of log cabins and Orthodox churches - a midsummer’s dream in the extreme north of Europe.Helsinki, ‘The Daughter of the Baltic’, ‘The Gibraltar of the North’, a dividing line between east and west and a modern and liberal minded metropolis. Founded in 1550 by Swedish king, Gustav Vasa, as a trading centre, in 1812 Tsar Alexander The First made it the capital of the Principality Of Finland. Turku is the oldest city in Finland and is the country’s first capital city from where Finnish culture was born. It is still evocative of the Middle Ages. The sea, a magnificent island landscape and picturesque timber houses are typical of one of the oldest cities in the Gulf Of Bothnia, Uusikaupunki. It was there in 1712 that a peace treaty was signed between Russia and Sweden and this small, quiet town has a long maritime history. Further north is a town of seafarers and traders, Kokkola, of which the old town boasts the largest number of timber built houses in Finland. The cleric, Anders Chydenius, once lived here and laid the foundation of Liberalism, the freedom of both religion and trade. Oulu is the flourishing centre of Northern Finland. Along with its many green areas this city by the sea comes alive during the spring and summer months. Despite the harsh climate, tropical plants are popular in the city. The hilly landscape of the spacious Pallas Ounastunturi National Park is located in the north west, close to the Swedish border. Yellow-green reindeer moss and dense layers of many other varieties grow on the seemingly endless hills of primeval stone and gneiss. The plant life of this region always surprises those who encounter it for the first time. Finland is a country that boasts more lakes than any other. It is full of picturesque, natural beauty, unique cultural treasures and historic locations: a tranquil paradise set in the extreme north.

There’s over 2 million saunas in Finland. From sterile saunas of gyms to lonely shacks on the countryside. Most saunas are private but there’s also a persistent tradition of public saunas.
Lately there has been spawning new public saunas, and one of them was even mistakenly called “Helsinki’s first true public sauna” by New York Times. But let me show you a sauna that would really earn that title and even more.
Helsinki proudly presents, the most public sauna in the world – Sompasauna. Why is it worth the title? Because it is free of charge and always open. It is run by voluntary donations and voluntary work.

The country’s government is allied with the nationalist "True Finns" party, putting Finland’s traditional pro-European identity to the test. FRANCE 24 meets two young Finnish women, Linda and Carolina, who confront Finnish Members of the European Parliament.

Turku is the oldest city in Finland and is the country’s first capital city from where Finnish culture was born. It is still evocative of the Middle Ages. The sea, a magnificent island landscape and picturesque timber houses are typical of one of the oldest cities in the Gulf Of Bothnia, Uusikaupunki. It was there in 1712 that a peace treaty was signed between Russia and Sweden and this small, quiet town has a long maritime history. Further north is a town of seafarers and traders, Kokkola, of which the old town boasts the largest number of timber built houses in Finland. The cleric, Anders Chydenius, once lived here and laid the foundation of Liberalism, the freedom of both religion and trade. Oulu is the flourishing centre of Northern Finland. Along with its many green areas this city by the sea comes alive during the spring and summer months. Despite the harsh climate, tropical plants are popular in the city. The hilly landscape of the spacious Pallas Ounastunturi National Park is located in the north west, close to the Swedish border. Yellow-green reindeer moss and dense layers of many other varieties grow on the seemingly endless hills of primeval stone and gneiss. The plant life of this region always surprises those who encounter it for the first time. Finland is a country that boasts more lakes than any other. It is full of picturesque, natural beauty, unique cultural treasures and historic locations: a tranquil paradise set in the extreme north.

1) Our first impressions of Helsinki included wandering around the city and sampling some Finnish street food in the form of a do it yourself picnic we had on a pedestrian bench.
2) As a day trip we left the urban center of Helsinki via ferry for a wander around quaint Suomenlinna island where we sat down to enjoy ice cream - I tried the Salmiakki flavored one.
3) On a dare I had the opportunity to sample Salmiakki, a black licorice that is popular in Finland and other Scandinavian countries. As a big fan of licorice, I liked it instantly whereas Audrey spat it out immediately.
4) During our stay in Dalsbruk we had the chance to participate in some adventure sports including Sea Kayaking are the Archipelago passing by islands in Kimito where we had a chance to spot wildlife.
5) From Kasnas we took a speed boat to visit Rosala - home to a Viking Center - and from there we continued on to check out Bengtskär Lighthouse.
6) While listening to some great live 70's music we had an opportunity to sample three different kinds of Finnish beer while eating reindeer meat.
7) Having a chance to properly explore Helsinki was a must for both of us. One of the highlights of wandering around the city centre was having a chance to see some of the impressive architecture including Uspenski Cathedral while eating salmon and reindeer meatballs by the Harbor market.
8) During our time in the Finnish Archipelago we were based in the town of Dalsbruk (Swedish name) also called Taalintehdas (Finnish name) a small town home to mostly Swedish speakers also fluent in Finnish.
9) Finally, no trip of ours would be complete without keying in on the local cuisine. Before we left Taalintehdas we check out a super market where we spotted Finnish snacks such as Fazer chocolate, Finnish beer, salmon, Salmiakki, rye bread and more. We're certainly going to miss Finnish cuisine.

Heading back to Finland - and specifically Helsinki - was our greatest surprise this summer. As the capital city, it has the attractions any big city offers, yet it somehow retains plenty of small town charm. One of the main reasons is that you're never far from nature. Hop on a bicycle or kayak and you within a few kilometers you'll feel as though you're all alone at one with nature.

With its long days and short nights, summertime is a great time to be in Helsinki. This was our second visit to the Finnish capital, and we were excited as ever to experience it for a couple of days. With summer in full swing, we enjoyed dinners al fresco, boat trips to nearby islands, and lots of walking around town. Here's a look at how we spent our time in Helsinki:
This is a city that comes alive during the summer months, and it was great enjoying all the events taking place in the city as well as relaxing outdoors. We loved revisiting Helsinki and we discovered so many new places that we had completely skipped over the first time around.

Nimikkeen takaisin Suomessa - ja erityisesti Helsinki - oli meidän suurin yllätys tänä kesänä. Kuten pääkaupunki, se on lähellä tahansa suurkaupungissa tarjoaa, mutta se jotenkin säilyttää runsaasti pikkukaupungin charmia. Yksi tärkeimmistä syistä on se, että et ole koskaan kaukana luonnosta. Heading back to Finland - and specifically Helsinki - was our greatest surprise this summer. As the capital city, it has the attractions any big city offers, yet it somehow retains plenty of small town charm. One of the main reasons is that you're never far from nature. Hop on a bicycle or kayak and you within a few kilometers you'll feel as though you're all alone at one with nature.

Helsinki, the Daughter of the Baltic, the Gibraltar of the North, a dividing line between east and west and a modern and liberal minded metropolis. Founded in 1550 by Swedish king Gustav I as a as a trading centre and in 1812, Csar Alexander I made it the capital of the Principality of Finland.
The Senaatintori is located in the centre of the city. The square is dominated by a monument and surrounded by a number of fine Neo-Classical buildings. Csar Alexander II included public, ecclesiastical and academic buildings in the square, including government offices, a cathedral and university.
Uspenski Cathedral is situated at the city's southern harbor and is the largest Russian Orthodox church in both western and northern Europe. Built in 1868 according to traditional Russian design its exterior is of red brick and it is crowned by 13 gilded domes.
The Finlandia Talo is Helsinki's concert and congress centre, a work of art that encapsulates the building and design philosophy of Alvar Aalto, one of Finland's most prominent architects of the 20th century. The white-colored opera house was completed in 1993. It was a daring project as the city's treasury was empty! But music reigned supreme and today the building is an important part of the city's cultural life.
Helsinki is a captivating city and has rightly been declared Europe's capital of culture.
