Here is a 19-minute video highlighting Penn State Justice and Safety Institute's Deputy Sheriff Basic Training Academy.
From first aid and crime scene investigation to firearms and defensive tactics, JASI's diverse group of instructors have trained thousands of deputies in partnership with the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency and its Deputy Sheriffs' Education and Training Board.
Deputies can participate in a 19-week basic training program or a two-week waiver program for deputies with previous police training.

It has been a long and fulfilling journey for Camille Cutler. Later this week, the 29-year old will join dozens of other recruits and graduate from 100th class at the San Diego Regional Law Enforcement Academy at Miramar College.
Watch this video to hear Camille talk about her time at the academy and what inspired her to become a deputy for the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.
Since 1980, The San Diego Regional Law Enforcement Academy has successfully prepared graduates for careers with the Sheriff's Department and other local and national law enforcement agencies.
Sheriff Bill Gore says he is proud of his agency's long association with Miramar College.
"The San Diego Regional Law Enforcement Academy continues to give our deputies the solid foundation they need to protect our community and proudly represent the Sheriff's Department," said Gore.
Nearly 1,500 San Diego County Sheriff's Deputies have been trained at the academy.

The El Paso County Sheriff's office had a little fun and posted a video of them dancing in the elevator after they say they installed a camera after constant "malfunctions." When Deputy Tony Scherb entered, he broke out all the dance move's to Silento's hit, "Whip/Nae Nae." As his colleagues entered the elevator with a straight face they all eventually joined in to do the signature coordinated dance moves. The video was created for Deputy Scherb to say goodbye to staff before retirement.

Keep in mind that when we complain about these cops making illegal stops, searches, writing false citations, and using their cuffs to cause nerve damage...it is in no way an isolated incident.

Sheriffs in the United States
In the United States, a sheriff is a county official and is typically the top law enforcement officer of a county. Historically, the sheriff was also commander of the militia in that county. Distinctive in law enforcement in the United States, sheriffs are usually elected. While the position of a County Sheriff is typically an elected one within the United States, many states (such as California) have state laws requiring that a person possess certain law enforcement qualifications before being able to run for the office. The political election of a person to serve as a police leader is an almost uniquely American tradition. However, examples exist, such as the Honorary Police of Jersey, a British Crown Dependency in the Channel Islands, have been elected since at least the 16th century.
Overview
The law enforcement agency headed by a sheriff is commonly referred to as a "sheriff's office" or "sheriff's department". According to the National Sheriffs' Association, an American sheriff's advocacy group, there were 3,085 sheriff's offices and departments as of the end of 2008. These range in size from very small (one- or two-member) forces in sparsely populated rural areas to large, full-service law enforcement agencies, such as the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, which is the largest sheriff's office and the seventh largest law enforcement agency in the United States, with 16,400 members and 400 reserve deputies. The average sheriff's office in the United States employs 24.5 sworn officers.

John Wayne
Marion Mitchell Morrison (born Marion Robert Morrison; May 26, 1907 – June 11, 1979), known by his stage name John Wayne and by his nickname "Duke", was an American film actor, director, and producer. An Academy Award-winner for True Grit (1969), Wayne was among the top box office draws for three decades. An enduring American icon, for several generations of Americans he epitomized rugged masculinity and is famous for his demeanor, including his distinctive calm voice, walk, and height.
Born in Iowa, Wayne grew up in Southern California. He found work at local film studios when he lost his football scholarship to USC as a result of a bodysurfing accident. Initially working for the Fox Film Corporation, he mostly appeared in small bit parts. His first leading role came in Raoul Walsh's lavish widescreen epic The Big Trail (1930), which led to leading roles in numerous B movies throughout the 1930s, many of them in the Western genre.
Wayne's career took off in 1939, with John Ford's Stagecoach making him an instant mainstream star. Wayne went on to star in 142 pictures. Biographer Ronald Davis says: "John Wayne personified for millions the nation's frontier heritage. Eighty-three of his movies were Westerns, and in them he played cowboys, cavalrymen, and unconquerable loners extracted from the Republic's central creation myth."

The El Paso County Sheriff's office had a little fun and posted a video of them dancing in the elevator after they say they installed a camera after constant "malfunctions." When Deputy Tony Scherb entered, he broke out all the dance move's to Silento's hit, "Whip/Nae Nae." As his colleagues entered the elevator with a straight face they all eventually joined in to do the signature coordinated dance moves. The video was created for Deputy Scherb to say goodbye to staff before retirement. -

The inmate, who was due in court, grabbed an officer's gun during a scuffle and opened fire, Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey said. Members of a North Carolina sheriff's office are making a stink out of alleged name-calling directed at its deputies by staff at a local chain restaurant. This comes three weeks after another deputy killed an unarmed young man suffering from depression.A captain with the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office took to Facebook on Monday to detail treatment of two sheriff's deputies at a Zaxby's chain restaurant in Shelby, North Carolina, on Sunday, July 10. Captain Joel Shores said the uniformed deputies were allegedly taunted by Zaxby's cooks, then given food that "wasn't even fit to eat."
"He and another deputy stopped at Zaxby's in Shelby (one of our FORMER favorite places to eat) for lunch," Shores wrote on behalf of one of the wives of the deputies, according to reports.
"Since they were on duty, they both had their uniforms on. As they walked up to place their orders, the boys in the back cooking the food started yelling at them and calling them names. Being the professional deputies that they are, neither of them replied to the rude comments or acknowledged it. Then, as they sat down to eat their food, my husband realized that the boys had put the hottest sauce possible on my his wings — to the point where his food wasn't even fit to eat."
Neal Glezen, owner of the restaurant, said footage from in-store camera will be analyzed and employee interviews will occur so that that the restaurant can get to the bottom of what happened.
"This is something we take very seriously. We're very big supporters of the community and law enforcement and all first responders," Glezen said, according to the Shelby Star. "We have our own investigation going right now. We want to find out exactly what happened and what was said ... what actually occurred."

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding a Deputy-Involved Shooting that occurred on Long Beach Boulevard and Magnolia Avenue, Lynwood, on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at approximately 11:00 a.m.
Detectives have learned that deputies from Century Station responded to the area of Long Beach Boulevard and Magnolia Avenue in Lynwood, regarding multiple emergency calls received of a “man with a gun” and “shots heard.” Several calls updating the suspect’s location were also received, including calls that described the suspect as a “male Black with a handgun wearing a checkered shirt.”
When deputies arrived, they located the armed suspect at the corner of Magnolia Avenue and Long Beach Boulevard, in front of a busy Arco Gas Station. The deputies immediately approached the suspect and gave him multiple commands to drop the gun. However, the suspect did not comply and did not drop the handgun, at which time a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
Witnesses in the immediate area said they saw the suspect turn and point the gun at the deputies prior to the shooting.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect’s weapon, a loaded .45 caliber handgun, was recovered at the scene.
The name of the suspect will not be released at this time, pending next of kin notification.
Sheriff Jim McDonnell has released the following statement regarding the incident:
“I want to assure the public that the Sheriff’s Department takes deputy involved shootings very seriously and that this investigation will be handled with the utmost professionalism and integrity. We are working closely with our criminal justice system partners as well as members of the public to put together the most comprehensive and accurate account of exactly what occurred.
In this modern age of cell phone video and instant analysis on the internet, I would ask that we keep in mind that a thorough and comprehensive investigation is detailed and time intensive.
It will involve, not just one source of information, but numerous sources, potentially including multiple videos, physical evidence and eyewitness accounts. I urge anyone who has information about this shooting incident to contact our investigators. Our number one priority is public safety.”
Detectives believe there may be additional victims and witnesses that saw the suspect prior to the deputy-involved shooting. If you believe you were a victim or have any information about this incident, please contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500. If you prefer to provide information anonymously, you may call "Crime Stoppers" by dialing (800) 222-TIPS (8477), or texting the letters TIPLA plus your tip to CRIMES (274637), or by using the website http://lacrimestoppers.org.
Whenever a Deputy-Involved Shooting results in a fatality of a person, several independent investigations immediately begin at the scene. These include separate investigations by the Offices of the L.A. County District Attorney and the L.A. County Coroner, in addition to Sheriff's Homicide Bureau and Internal Affairs Bureau. The LASD immediately notifies the Office of Inspector General who responds and is also present at the incident scene.
The Critical Incident Review panel convenes to perform a preliminary risk management analysis of the shooting. This panel is comprised of the concerned chief and unit commander, risk management, training and the chairperson of the Executive Force Review Committee and Office of the Los Angeles County Counsel.
Every aspect of a Deputy-Involved shooting is ultimately evaluated by the Sheriff’s Executive Force Review Committee, which decides whether or not there are any policy, tactical, supervisory, or training violations.

The clip shows activists Ashley Jessica and Jason Bermas handing out flyers warning travelers about the dangers of x-ray body scanners at Albany International Airport in New York.
Almost as soon as the activists begin to hand out the flyers, they are confronted by an aggressive airport official later named as Douglas I. Myers, the airport's Director of Public Affairs.
Myers orders the activists to leave the top floor and later takes the unprecedented step of closing off the entire level and preventing families from meeting their loved ones. He subsequently claims the activists need a permit and a $1 million dollar insurance liability merely to film inside the airport, despite the fact that the TSA's own website clearly states that TSA checkpoints can be filmed at any airport.
Myers' attempts to get the activists in trouble with police are derailed when Sheriff Stan Lenic steps in to handle the situation, pointing out to Myers that they have a right to film under the First Amendment.
"Obviously this is your constitutional right, as far as we're concerned you're not breaking any laws," Lenic tells Bermas.
When Myers asks the Sheriff to detain the activists, Lenic responds, "I can't do that."
Myers then asks for Bermas' identification, to which Sheriff Lenic responds, "He doesn't have to show you his identification."
"I need to get it from you," Myers tells the Sheriff as he winks at him, to which Sheriff Lenic responds "I can't give you that."
"Just so you know, he's not doing anything wrong," Deputy Lenic forcefully tells Myers, before quoting the New York penal law code.
"If I was to ask for his identification he does not have to give it to me because he's not doing anything wrong," adds Lenic.
Myers' claim that Jessica is blocking the escalator is also dismissed by Lenic. Myers then claims the filming is illegal because it is "commercial" and could appear on the Drudge Report -- which is a news aggregator and not a commercial website.
Lenic should obviously be commended for his fine job in upholding constitutional rights. If there's an award for cop of the year, he should win it hands down. He is a shining example to other police officers who have completely failed to apply the law in similar situations.
