Steam is water in the gas phase, which is formed when water boils. Steam is invisible; however, "steam" often refers to wet steam, the visible mist or aerosol of water droplets formed as this water vapor condenses. At lower pressures, such as in the upper atmosphere or at the top of high mountains, water boils at a lower temperature than the nominal 100 °C (212 °F) at standard temperature and pressure. If heated further it becomes superheated steam.
The enthalpy of vaporization is the energy required to turn water into the gaseous form when it increases in volume by 1,700 times at standard temperature and pressure; this change in volume can be converted into mechanical work by steam engines such as reciprocating piston type engines and steam turbines, which are a sub-group of steam engines. Piston type steam engines played a central role to the Industrial Revolution and modern steam turbines are used to generate more than 80% of the world's electricity. If liquid water comes in contact with a very hot surface or depressurizes quickly below its vapor pressure, it can create a steam explosion. Steam explosions have been responsible for many foundry accidents, and may also have been responsible for much of the damage to the plant in the Chernobyl disaster.
Waterloo may refer to:
With the exception of Waterloo, Belgium, which is the eponym of the famed Battle of Waterloo, all of the following are named in honor of the battle:
Central Railway can refer to the following:
The Waterloo Central Railway (WCR) is a non-profit organization that is owned and operated by the Southern Ontario Locomotive Restoration Society (SOLRS). In May 2007, SOLRS received joint approval from the Region of Waterloo and the City of Waterloo to run trains from Waterloo to St Jacobs and potentially as far north as Elmira. On a typical operating day, the train runs three times a day on Tuesdays (June to August), Thursdays (May to October) and Saturday (April to October). In 2015, the railway lost regular running rights south of Northfield Drive to make way for the Ion light rail project. All Market Train service now departs from the St. Jacobs Farmers Market.
The WCR operates on the former Canadian National Waterloo Spur now owned by the Region of Waterloo, which connects Elmira, St. Jacobs and Waterloo to Kitchener, Ontario by rail. Through an agreement with the Region of Waterloo, the WCR operates passenger service in daytime hours, and the Goderich–Exeter Railway operates freight service in evening hours. From 2007 to 2014, the WCR leased space in the City of Waterloo Visitor and Heritage Information Centre which was formerly owned by the Waterloo-St. Jacobs Railway. As of 2015, the WCR no longer operates south of Northfield Drive.

In the dying days of steam on the Bournemouth main line in 1966 to 1967, Waterloo station was an absolute magnet to enthusiasts seeking to enjoy main line steam for perhaps the last time. Here we see various Standard classes and a number of Rebuilt Bulleid Light Pacifics, the most notable one being the very first Rebuild, no. 34005 "Barnstaple" still sporting her nameplates Also seen is the pioneer Swindon 'Warship' diesel, no. D800 "Sir Brian Robertson", these machines being used on the then-remaining West of England trains to Exeter. Steam trains filmed from London Waterloo westwards, down the line 50 miles to Worting Junction beyond Basingstoke, in 1964. The passing locomotives have been identified, where possible, from a frame-by-frame examination of the footage. Train destinations/origins are identified from the headcode discs displayed by the locos. [Routing displayed in this way was almost unique in Britain to the Southern Railway/Southern Region of B.R.] But other rail topics than trains and locos are often mentioned. Please note: the name of one-time Chief Mechanical Engineer R.E.L. Maunsell is pronounced correctly - without the u - as I was told by the husband of one of his former office assistants. The SWML has become quite a regular visitor to the SWML on Saturday's over the last few years and this was the first time I managed to ride it. Travelling south from London Waterloo as far as Exeter St Davids we are under the power of 60163. All the way for the run down Sailsbury to Exeter St Davids. Eventually about 3 hour 50mins later our train came in bang on time with the steam loco leading we left Exeter St Davids for the stunning journey over the GWML all the way back to London Victoria. At Tharle after a delay due to a late running service from Plymouth we departed 7 minu...
SOLRS & WCR ran a steam excursion from Waterloo to Elmira in the snow and cold. They ran on Saturday and Monday but I was only able to catch Mondays show. I hope you enjoy it and there are many more to come. Sit back and enjoy the ride. Moved to Waterloo 2007, video has wrong date. There is an error in the opening credit. ETR No 9 was not moved to Waterloo until 2007, also end credit should be Buy A Membership, To correct it would take 6 hours so it will have to stay :-(

The next day 34052 Lord Dowding was off to Weymouth with the "The End of Southern Steam". We duly videoed it at Egham, and then again near Old Basing before setting off for Tisbury, but ominous warnings of traffic hold-ups around Amesbury threatened to wipe out our narrow time margin. This, combined with the fact that we would be covering the same ground the next day, forced us to abandon the chase. With hindsight we should have continued, as a Bulleid pacific climbing Upwey Bank is very much synonymous with the end of Southern steam, and we can only apologise to anyone who expected to see just that in this video. Sunday 9th July, exactly 50 years on from the last day of steam on the Southern Region, and Clan Line was in fine form, motoring past Monxton and "tanking" through Tisbury at the...
Battle of Waterloo - Napoleon has return from exile, and prepared his armies for war. Nations that opposed him formed the Seventh Coalition and began to mobilize their armies.
