Un parcours où courage et dévouement sont les maîtres mots. Geneviève de Galard, ancienne convoyeuse de l'air, raconte ici comment, prise dans le piège de Diên Biên Phu, elle partagea le quotidien et les souffrances de 15 000 soldats pendant près de deux mois. Comment dans l'enfer des combats, elle devint leur rayon de soleil en incarnant pour eux l'infirmière, l'épouse, la confidente...
En 1953, Geneviève de Galard, fille de la bonne aristocratie du Sud-Ouest, intègre le corps très restreint des convoyeuses de l'air : une trentaine d'infirmières volantes chargées de soigner les blessés lors des évacuations aériennes. Dès 1953, leur principal lieu d'intervention est l'Indochine. En janvier 1954, Geneviève rejoint Hanoi au Tonkin. Face à l'évolution de la situation, deux convoyeuses sont désignées chaque jour pour se rendre au camp retranché de Dien Bien Phu et évacuer les blessés. Au même moment se tient la conférence de Berlin. Elle se solde par l'annonce d'une prochaine conférence sur la paix prévue à Genève en mai. C'est alors que la Chine décide d'apporter une aide massive au Vietminh afin de renforcer sa position lors de la prochaine conférence. Les données du combat changent du tout au tout, l'artillerie vietminh ne laisse que peu de chance au camp retranché. Le 13 mars, le Vietminh mène une attaque terrible sur Dien Bien Phu. La piste est endommagée, et le Vietminh encercle le camp. Les évacuations vont-elles se poursuivre et dans quelles conditions ? Le 17 mars un premier avion décolle d'Hanoi. Il arrive à se poser mais le Vietminh tire dès que commence le chargement. L'avion redécolle sans avoir pu charger les évacués. Désormais les évacuations se feront de nuit dans des conditions de plus en plus périlleuses. Geneviève de Galard doit assurer le vol de la nuit du 26 au 27 mars. Son avion décolle mais, sous les feux des tirs, il est obligé de repartir sans blessés. Sa déception est grande. Elle demande alors à faire partie du prochain départ. C'est là que son destin bascule. Arrivé à Dien Bien Phu à 4 heures du matin, son avion, endommagé, ne repartira jamais. A 29 ans, Geneviève se retrouve prisonnière, la seule femme à partager le sort des 15 000 soldats de l'armée française pris dans la nasse de cette sinistre cuvette.
Affectée à l'antenne médicale centrale, Geneviève de Galard a en charge les blessés graves à leur sortie de la salle de réanimation. Certains forcent son admiration comme ce jeune légionnaire triple amputé qui trouve encore le moyen de plaisanter. Pour eux tous, Geneviève est un peu la mère, un peu la sœur, un peu l'amie, sa seule présence rend moins inhumain cet enfer de feu, de boue et de sang. Sa place, elle ne la céderait à personne.

Kenneth Gilbert More CBE (20th September 1914 - 12th July 1982) was an English film and stage actor. Raised to stardom by the vintage car based film-comedy Genevieve (1953), he appeared in many roles as a carefree, happy-go-lucky gent. His biggest hits from this period include Raising a Riot (1955), Reach for the Sky (1956) and The Admirable Crichton (1958). He starred in Doctor in the House (1954), the first of the popular Doctor film series. Although his career declined in the early 1960s, two of his own favourite films date from this time - The Comedy Man (1964) and The Greengage Summer (1961) with Susannah York, "one of the happiest films on which I have ever worked." He also enjoyed a revival in the much-acclaimed TV adaptation of The Forsyte Saga (1967) and the Father Brown series.

Genevieve is a 1953 British comedy film produced and directed by Henry Cornelius and written by William Rose. It starred John Gregson, Dinah Sheridan, Kenneth More and Kay Kendall as two couples comedically involved in a veteran automobile rally. The musical score was composed and performed by Larry Adler with dance numbers by Eric Rogers.
The story revolves around two Veteran cars and their crews participating in the annual London to Brighton Veteran Car Run. Alan McKim (John Gregson), a young barrister and his wife Wendy (Dinah Sheridan), drive Genevieve, a 1904 Darracq. Their friend Ambrose Claverhouse (Kenneth More), a brash advertising salesman, his latest girlfriend, fashion model Rosalind Peters (Kay Kendall) and her pet St. Bernard ride in a 1904 Spyker.
The journey to Brighton goes well for Claverhouse, but the McKims' trip is complicated by several breakdowns, and they arrive very late. As Alan cancelled their accommodation in their usual plush hotel during a fit of pique, they are forced to spend the night in a dingy run-down hotel (with a noteworthy cameo performance by Joyce Grenfell as the proprietress) leaving Wendy feeling less than pleased.

Kenneth More (1914-1982)
Kenneth Gilbert More CBE (20th September 1914 - 12th July 1982) was an English film and stage actor. Raised to stardom by the vintage car based film-comedy Genevieve (1953), he appeared in many roles as a carefree, happy-go-lucky gent. His biggest hits from this period include Raising a Riot (1955), Reach for the Sky (1956) and The Admirable Crichton (1958). He starred in Doctor in the House (1954), the first of the popular Doctor film series. Although his career declined in the early 1960s, two of his own favourite films date from this time - The Comedy Man (1964) and The Greengage Summer (1961) with Susannah York, "one of the happiest films on which I have ever worked." He also enjoyed a revival in the much-acclaimed TV adaptation of The Forsyte Saga (1967) and the Father Brown series.

En 1953, Geneviève de Galard, fille de la bonne aristocratie du Sud-Ouest, intègre le corps très restreint des convoyeuses de l'air : une trentaine d'infirmières volantes chargées de soigner les blessés lors des évacuations aériennes. Dès 1953, leur principal lieu d'intervention est l'Indochine. En janvier 1954, Geneviève rejoint Hanoi au Tonkin. Face à l'évolution de la situation, deux convoyeuses sont désignées chaque jour pour se rendre au camp retranché de Dien Bien Phu et évacuer les blessés. Au même moment se tient la conférence de Berlin. Elle se solde par l'annonce d'une prochaine conférence sur la paix prévue à Genève en mai. C'est alors que la Chine décide d'apporter une aide massive au Vietminh afin de renforcer sa position lors de la prochaine conférence. Les données du combat changent du tout au tout, l'artillerie vietminh ne laisse que peu de chance au camp retranché. Le 13 mars, le Vietminh mène une attaque terrible sur Dien Bien Phu. La piste est endommagée, et le Vietminh encercle le camp. Les évacuations vont-elles se poursuivre et dans quelles conditions ? Le 17 mars un premier avion décolle d'Hanoi. Il arrive à se poser mais le Vietminh tire dès que commence le chargement. L'avion redécolle sans avoir pu charger les évacués. Désormais les évacuations se feront de nuit dans des conditions de plus en plus périlleuses. Geneviève de Galard doit assurer le vol de la nuit du 26 au 27 mars. Son avion décolle mais, sous les feux des tirs, il est obligé de repartir sans blessés. Sa déception est grande. Elle demande alors à faire partie du prochain départ. C'est là que son destin bascule. Arrivé à Dien Bien Phu à 4 heures du matin, son avion, endommagé, ne repartira jamais. A 29 ans, Geneviève se retrouve prisonnière, la seule femme à partager le sort des 15 000 soldats de l'armée française pris dans la nasse de cette sinistre cuvette.
Affectée à l'antenne médicale centrale, Geneviève de Galard a en charge les blessés graves à leur sortie de la salle de réanimation. Certains forcent son admiration comme ce jeune légionnaire triple amputé qui trouve encore le moyen de plaisanter. Pour eux tous, Geneviève est un peu la mère, un peu la sœur, un peu l'amie, sa seule présence rend moins inhumain cet enfer de feu, de boue et de sang. Sa place, elle ne la céderait à personne.

Edward Cronjager was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Cinematography, and Robert D. Webb was nominated for the Grand Prize at the 1954 Cannes Film Festival.

Kenneth Gilbert More CBE (20th September 1914 - 12th July 1982) was an English film and stage actor. Raised to stardom by the vintage car based film-comedy Genevieve (1953), he appeared in many roles as a carefree, happy-go-lucky gent. His biggest hits from this period include Raising a Riot (1955), Reach for the Sky (1956) and The Admirable Crichton (1958). He starred in Doctor in the House (1954), the first of the popular Doctor film series. Although his career declined in the early 1960s, two of his own favourite films date from this time - The Comedy Man (1964) and The Greengage Summer (1961) with Susannah York, "one of the happiest films on which I have ever worked." He also enjoyed a revival in the much-acclaimed TV adaptation of The Forsyte Saga (1967) and the Father Brown series.
