Cotabato (formerly known as North Cotabato; Filipino: Hilagang Kotabato) is a landlocked province in the Philippines located in the SOCCSKSARGEN region in Mindanao. Its capital is Kidapawan City.
Cotabato derives its name from the Maguindanao kuta wato (from Malay - "Kota Batu"), meaning "stone fort", referring to the stone fort which served as the seat of Sultan Muhammad Kudarat in what is now Cotabato City.
Islam was introduced in this part of the country in the later part of 15th century by Sharif Mohammed Kabungsuwan, an Arabo-Malay Muslim warrior-missionary. Sharif Kabungsuwan invaded Malabang in 1475, facing armed resistance from the non-Muslim natives, nevertheless successfully vanquishing and subjugating them to his (Islamic) rule through the might of his Samal warriors.
Modern historians have pointed to the Cotabato delta as the medieval location of Toupo, the successor of the Maguindanao/Cotabato Sultanate.
Christianity was introduced in 1596, but the Spaniards were unable to penetrate into the region until the second half of the 19th century. The district of Cotabato was formed in 1862, covering the areas of what is now Cotabato, Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat provinces with its capital at Tamontaka. Fort Pikit was established by the Spaniards in 1893 as they continued their conquest of the remnants of Maguindanao Sultanate, which would soon be the site of one of the province's oldest towns, Pikit.
BIFF, later sometimes B1FF, was a pseudonym on, and the prototypical newbie of, Usenet. BIFF was created as and taken up as a satire of a partly amusing, partly annoying, mostly unwelcome intrusion into a then fairly rarefied community. BIFF had a Commodore Vic-20 at first and a Commodore 64 later. BIFF posts were limited to 40 character lines to look like they'd come from those machines.
BIFF was created by Joe Talmadge, who abandoned the character after just two postings. From then on, Richard Sexton took over and was credited by Talmadge as popularising BIFF.
Richard Sexton: I make no claim to inventing BIFF. Blame Joe Talmadge. Joe wasn't too busy one year at HP and invented a whole cast of characters such as SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR MAN, Bobby Joe (Dedicated Wobegon listener), Joe Supportive (soc.singles reader for 1.5 years) and of course the big bad BIFFSTER.
Joe Talmadge: Oh. Hey. Don't blame me. It's Webber's fault. Anyway, I may have invented BIFF, but Richard made him famous. Richard is the Roy Crock of BIFF; meanwhile, I fade quietly into obscurity.

** Please expand the description box for itinerary & music details** January 22-24, 2015 www.instagram.com/timandglo We planned our January Philippines trip around a visit to Asik Asik Falls, which we had seen amazing photos of on Instagram! The closest airport to the falls is in Cotabato City. Both Philippines Airlines and Cebu Pacific Air have daily morning flights to Cotabato, which take just an hour from Manila. We opted to stay in Midsayap, which is closer to Asik Asik and just one hour or 45 km from Cotabato City. We paid our taxi driver 1,500 pesos for the one-way trip. Before we left Cotabato City, he took us to see the spectacular Grand Mosque, which was a gift from the Sultan of Brunei. In Midsayap, we stayed at White Hut Inn & Resort. The rooms are basic, but there's hot w...
Part 1: ride to Lake Sebu, and arrival Dongon Falls. http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/mutadis Why Sebu ? One time at home, I saw in a travel guide a little fairy picture of bamboo huts on pillows in water. The book contained only a few lines of information about the lake. The picture fascinated me. I started fantasizing; was it possible to reach that image in real? The contrast of the primitive huts, versus our western organised glass house life. Who is never searching for a lost paradise? During a stay in Davao City, I tried to reach the mysterious lake, but no one wanted to drive me there! Maybe they were a little frightened. Until, the day before I had to fly back! So, too late. One day, in Manila's underworld, I met a (too) young girl, who 'operated' in the city with false ID papers....
I woke up early and randomly decided to ride a bus out of Manila in search of a spontaneous adventure! Turns out the bus I rode took 3.5 hours outside of the city to the Province of Quezon! The rainy weather added to the raw beauty of the coast, and I found myself exploring some local waterfalls... WHICH TURNED OUT TO BE AMAZING! This video reminds me that waking up early to travel in the Philippines is always a good idea... You never know just how beautiful your day can be! Especially if you need a break from Manila! Beware when traveling to the Southern Island of Mindanao in the Philippines. I have been getting quite a few comments and questions with regard to my trips to Mindanao in the Southern Philippines. Asking if I'm a bit concerned for my safety. I would say yes maybe a little bit more now after these comments. I am always a little nervous on my way over there, but once I hit the airport in General Santos City I'm good. On my very first trip there I was a little bit worried, because of what I had read about the problems they are having with terrorism and the kidnappings on the Island of Mindanao along with the travel warnings issued by the US state department. When we were coming in for a landing at GenSan you fly out over the Sarangani bay and then turn and bank in for the landing. I've spent ...
