Monetary policy statements from two major central banks will be published this Thursday, and the Dukascopy Economic Calendar takes a closer look at these and other events. I'm Elaine Stenson The first item on the schedule comes at quarter to eight in the morning, when the French Trade Balance for November is released. French exports showed a slight decline in October, but the trade deficit still went down as the imports fell at a faster pace. UK Trade Balance for November is out at 9:30 AM. Trade deficit narrowed in October from 10.1 billion pounds a month ago, as imports showed a stronger decline than exports. Euro Zone Economic Sentiment for December will be available at ten o'clock. The Index has been on the rise for the past seven months and now stands at its highest level in more than 2 years. German Industrial Production for November is due at 11. Production posted an unexpected drop in October, following a revised point 7% decrease a month ago. Bank of England will release its closely watched Monetary Policy Statement at noon. The interest rate has stood unchanged at point 5% since March 2009 even as the British economic recovery is picking up speed. The next item on the schedule comes at 12:30 PM GMT, and it is the US Challenger Job Cuts for December. 45.3 thousand jobs were cut in November, which is slightly less than 45.7 thousand the previous month. Another high importance Monetary Policy Statement, this time from the European Central Bank, is due at quarter to one. The policy makers left the interest rate unchanged during the December meeting after cutting it to a record-low level a month ago. Canadian Housing Starts for December are out at 1:15. Housing starts inched lower in November, having stood at 198 thousand a month ago. The closely watched weekly update on the US Jobless Claims is released at half past one. Initial claims fell by two thousand during the week ending December 28, while continuing claims went down by 98 thousand during the week ending December 21. Two news releases concerning the Canadian construction sector in November are scheduled at the same time, including New Housing Price Index. House prices showed a slight increase in October, following no change the previous month. Building Permits surprised on the upside in October as both residential and commercial permits posted a strong increase. UK BRC Retail Sales Monitor for December will be available at one minute past midnight. Same-store sales rose in November, albeit at a slower pace than the point 8% annual increase in October. And the last item on the schedule is Japanese Preliminary Leading Indicator for November, which is out at 5 AM. The Index came in stronger than expected in October, rising from 109.2 a month ago. These are the events to watch on Thursday, 9th of January. Check back in for the next run-down of news releases for Friday, but for now, goodbye.- published: 08 Jan 2014

Swiss Retail Sales for December are up next at quarter past eight. November results came in much stronger than expected as the annual growth accelerated from 1.6% the previous month. Two news releases regarding the British economy in December are due at half past nine, and Trade Balance is one of them. Trade deficit improved in November from 9.7 billion pounds a month ago as exports grew at a faster pace than imports. Industrial Production remained unchanged in monthly terms in November as a strong growth in electricity and gas was offset by a 2.2% drop in mining and quarrying. German Industrial Production for December is out at 11 o'clock. Production rebounded in November from a 1.2% drop a month ago, and manufacturing was the main driver of growth. The closely watched US Employment Report for January will be published at 1:30 PM GMT. December results were mixed as non-farm payrolls grew less than expected, but the unemployment rate reached its lowest level since the recession. The high importance Canadian Labour Force Survey for January is due at the same time. Unemployment rate went up in December, having stood at 6.9% for the past three months. Another closely watched event comes at 3 o'clock, and it is UK NIESR GDP Estimate for January. And last up at 8 o'clock in the evening is the US Consumer Credit for December. Consumer credit surprised on the downside in November, posting the weakest growth since July. This was the Economic Calendar for Friday, the 7th of February. We'll be back with our next overview of economic news releases for Monday. See you then.- published: 06 Feb 2014

Wednesday, the 15th of January, is a busy day in terms of economic news releases, and the Dukascopy TV team is here to help you navigate through it with the Economic Calendar. I'm Doireann McDermott Coming up first at six o'clock in the morning is the Japanese Preliminary Machine Tool Orders for December. The orders posted a strong annual growth in November, up from 8.4% a month ago. The preliminary estimate of German 2013 Annual GDP will be available at 8 AM. The German economy slowed down in 2012, decelerating from a 3% growth the previous year. Swiss Retail Sales for November are due at 8:15. Sales continued to grow on an annual basis in October, following a point 1% gain a month ago. Euro Zone Trade Balance for November is published at 10. Trade surplus widened in October as the exports went up while imports slowed down. Two news releases regarding the US economy are out at 1:30 PM GMT, including the Producer Price Index for December. The Index posted its third consecutive monthly decline in November in light of falling energy prices. Empire State Manufacturing Index for January is also out at the same time. The Index returned to growth in December, partially reversing a 2.2% dip a month ago. Canadian existing home sales for December are up next at 2 o'clock. Home sales inched lower in November, following a 3.2% decline the previous month. A closely watched speech from the Bank of England Governor Mark Carney is scheduled at quarter past two. The December report noted a modest to moderate growth. Two news releases concerning the Japanese economy in November are out at 11:50 in the evening, and Tertiary Industry Index one of them. The Index surprised on the downside in October, but it is expected to bounce back this month. On the other hand, Machinery Orders went up, but not enough to reverse a 2.1% decline in September. UK RICS House Price Balance will be released at one minute past midnight. An ever-growing number of surveyors is reporting a price increase in their areas as the Balance has been rising for the past 10 months. And a high importance event for the Aussie Dollar traders comes at half past twelve, when the Australian Unemployment Rate for December is released. The rate inched up higher in November, although 21 thousand new jobs were added in November. That's all for Wednesday's Economic Calendar. We'll be returning with the next run-down of key events for Thursday. Goodbye for now.- published: 14 Jan 2014
