Janine Turner (born Janine Loraine Gauntt; December 6, 1962) is an American actress best known for her roles as Maggie O'Connell in the television series Northern Exposure (1990 – 1995) and as Dr. Dana Stowe on the Lifetime original series Strong Medicine (2000 to 2006).
Turner was born Janine Loraine Gauntt in Lincoln, Nebraska, the daughter of Janice Loraine (née Agee), a real estate agent, and Turner Maurice Gauntt, Jr., a pilot for Braniff Airways. Her father is from East Texas, while her mother is from South Texas. She has a brother, Tim, and was raised in Euless, Texas.
In 1978, the fifteen-year-old Turner left home to pursue a modeling career with the Wilhelmina Modeling Agency. She began her acting career in 1980, appearing in several episodes of Dallas. She continued to make guest appearances on television shows throughout the 1980s before landing the role of Laura Templeton on General Hospital.
By 1986, Turner had become frustrated with the quality of the roles she was getting; as she told The Chicago Tribune five years later, "I was always working, but I wanted to do more serious roles and knew that I had the talent. I had to get away from Hollywood." Disregarding her agent's advice, Turner moved to New York in order to hone her craft, studying there with Marcia Haufrecht of The Actors Studio.

http://iamsecond.com From an early age Janine Turner wanted to be part of the show business world. Modeling, dancing, singing and acting were a big part of her formative years, which eventually moved her to New York City in pursuit of a serious acting career. She had ambition, drive, and visions of success. But along the way came rejection— thousands of times- in auditions and tryouts. Somehow she had to deal with it to survive. Janine first tried dealing with it through alcohol. This caused numerous issues, including the breakup of an engagement, until she discovered she was a blackout drinker and became sober at age 23. Then facing another deep hole of rejection at age 27, she remembered just who was in control of her life and career. At her lowest moment, God shined on her, a vigne...

Tune in Sunday at 9/8c. When Janine Turner was 20 years old, she was a young actress eager to hone her craft and make a name for herself beyond daytime soap operas. During an audition she had after her brief role on General Hospital, Janine read with another young actor, Alec Baldwin. Although she remained focused during the audition, Janine didn't get the part. "I asked why I didn't get the part, and they said, 'Alec was so taken with you, he couldn't concentrate!'" Janine recalls, laughing. "So, I lost the part! But Alec was very persistent." Soon, the two were engaged. Watch as the self-described "good ole Baptist Texas girl" opens up about her relationship with Alec and reveals who called off the wedding, even after all the plans were in place. Through the laws passed by Congress, crimes and punishments are defined, levels of taxation and spending are established, and the programs and policies that shape American government and politics are established. However, the legislative process can be long, tedious, complex and frustrating. Bills are often incoherent or voluminous. And out of all the bills that are proposed, only a very few actually end up becoming law. Actress Janine Turner (Northern Exposure, Friday Night Lights), Founder and Co-Chair of Constituting America, discusses an initiative to limit the size and length of bills.
