UAE: Rostec's Chemezov talks weapon sales with S-300 deal reportedly signed with Iran
CEO of hi-tech industrial giant Rostec
Sergei Chemezov commented on the increased number of sales of anti-aircraft weapons systems and other military equipment to
Russia's
Arab trading partners at the
Dubai Airshow-2015, in the
United Arab Emirates (
UAE), Monday, amid reports that Russia signed a deal to export the
S-300 missile defence system to
Iran after years of being prevented by sanctions
.
SOT, Journalist (Russian): "Sergei Victorovich [Chemezov], how attractive is this region for us?"
SOT, Sergei Chemezov, CEO of Rostec (
Russian): "
The Arab world has always been attractive for us because we have been working here and have participated in these exhibitions for many years. We delivered the first shipping of the Pantsir-S1 [surface-to-air missile weapon system] here, to the United Arab Emirates.
Saudi Arabia,
Egypt and other
Arab countries are also interesting for us and we work with many of them
."
SOT, Journalist (Russian): "Which of Russia's products attract the eastern partners?"
SOT, Sergei Chemezov, CEO of Rostec (Russian): "[
Middle-eastern partners] are interested in anti-aircraft warfare.
Taking into account the political situation, every country is concerned about its security and therefore the security of its airspace, which is why they are concerning themselves with anti-aircraft warfare."
SOT, Journalist (Russian): "Can you name the countries which are interested in it?"
SOT, Sergei Chemezov, CEO of Rostec (Russian): "Among those countries [interested in anti-aircraft warfare] is Egypt.
Today we are looking at the possibility of deliveries of the
Antey-2500 [air defence missile weapon system] and the
Buk missile system there: it is under discussion now. We have already delivered Pantsir here [to the UAE] which was developed through funding provided by the [
United Arab] Emirates."
SOT, Journalist (Russian): "What else are the clients interested in apart from air defence missile weapon systems?"
SOT, Sergei Chemezov, CEO of Rostec (Russian): "[Our partners] are also interested in helicopters, airplanes, including the
Su-35. This is a very interesting plane but unfortunately we did not have time to bring it here. However it is well represented interactively. So now we are discussing the potential purchase of this plane with the [United Arab] Emirates."
SOT, Journalist (Russian): "Did you have to change your work after the imposing of sanctions?"
SOT, Sergei Chemezov, CEO of Rostec (Russian): "There were problems with payments so today we process payments in national currencies. It has not influenced the orders.
The volume of orders has even increased with Rosoboronexport now having orders worth 48 billion dollars in signed contracts."
SOT, Journalist (Russian): "How much do you plan to export this year?"
SOT, Sergei Chemezov, CEO of Rostec (Russian): "Well according to the plan, Rosoboronexport should have 12.5 billion dollars, we hope that the figure will be even higher. But we will surely carry out the plan."
