"Lovesick Blues" is a show tune written by Cliff Friend and Irving Mills. The song first appeared in the 1922 musical Oh, Ernest. It was recorded by Emmett Miller in 1928 and later by country music singer Rex Griffin. The recordings by Griffin and Miller inspired Hank Williams to perform the song during his first appearances on the Louisiana Hayride in 1948. Receiving an enthusiastic reception from the audience, Williams decided to record his own version despite initial push back from his producer Fred Rose and his band.
MGM Records released "Lovesick Blues" in February 1949, and it became an overnight success, quickly reaching number one on Billboard's Top C&W singles and number 24 on the Most Played in Jukeboxes list. The publication named it the top country and western record of the year, while Cashbox named it "Best Hillbilly Record of the Year".
Several cover versions of the song have been recorded. The most popular, Frank Ifield's 1962 version, topped the UK Singles Chart. In 2004, Williams' version was added to the National Recording Registry.
Hiram King "Hank" Williams, (/hæŋk wɪljəmz /; September 17, 1923 – January 1, 1953) was an American singer-songwriter and musician. Regarded as one of the most significant and influential American singers and songwriters of the 20th century, Williams recorded 35 singles (five released posthumously) that would place in the Top 10 of the Billboard Country & Western Best Sellers chart, including 11 that ranked number one.
Born in Mount Olive, Butler County, Alabama, Williams moved to Georgiana, where he met Rufus Payne, a black street performer who gave him guitar lessons in exchange for meals or money. Payne had a major influence on Williams' later musical style, along with Roy Acuff and Ernest Tubb. During this time, Williams informally changed his name to Hank, believing it to be a better name for country music. He moved to Montgomery and his music career began there in 1937, when WSFA radio station producers hired him to perform and host a 15-minute program. He formed as backup the Drifting Cowboys band, which was managed by his mother, and dropped out of school to devote his time to his career.
Blues is a genre and musical form that originated in African-American communities in the "Deep South" of the United States around the end of the 19th century. The genre developed from roots in traditional African music, combined with European American folk music. Blues incorporated spirituals, work songs, field hollers, shouts, and chants, and rhymed simple narrative ballads. The blues form, ubiquitous in jazz, rhythm and blues and rock and roll, is characterized by the call-and-response pattern, the blues scale and specific chord progressions, of which the twelve-bar blues is the most common. The blue notes (or "worried notes") which are often thirds or fifths which are flatter in pitch than in other music styles, are also an important part of the sound. Blues shuffles or walking bass reinforce the trance-like rhythm and form a repetitive effect called a groove.
Blues as a genre possesses other characteristics such as lyrics, bass lines, and instruments. The lyrics of early traditional blues verses consisted of a single line repeated four times. It was only in the first decades of the 20th century that the most common current structure became standard: the so-called AAB pattern, consisting of a line sung over the four first bars, its repetition over the next four, and then a longer concluding line over the last bars. Early blues frequently took the form of a loose narrative, often relating troubles experienced within African American society.

Rox Soulful, brassy, barely in her twenties and signed to Rough Trade, south Londoner Roxanne Tataei is a hard act to follow. “I write my songs, like I'd write my diary,” reads her website. Which would be true, if she had anytime to sit and navel gaze between supporting the likes of Roxy Music and Stevie Wonder… Musically however, Rox does wear her heart on her sleeve, as her forthcoming debut LP ‘Memoirs’ attests; a mixture of jazzy licks, r’n’b melodies and good time rock steady, where Rox sings us through her own personal lovesick past and back into a pair blue suede size nines ready for a night out on the town. Hotly tipped at Latitude this year, she’s spent the last few months in NYC working with Commissioner Gordon, whose previous exploits including knob twiddling for the likes of...
After hearing the Zed's Dead remix of "White Satin," I found all the footage available of the Moody Blues performing this song and proceeded to deconstruct it accordingly. This video is largely based on a French television performance with tons of video bits from Flash Gordon, the Simpsons, etc added for additional flavor. This is my favorite video off the Lovesick DVD mixtape, available from: justindestructions@gmail.com. Enjoy!!!

THE PATH OF MONEY by Daniel Aschwanden and Peter Stamer In June 2009 we accompanied two Chinese banknotes (10 yuan and 20 yuan) on their way through China – and through theses note got acquainted with the people who were spending the money. As long as the notes were in their possession we remained with the respective owners. If they spent the banknotes, we also would swap the owner. With the help of two video cameras we recorded our encounters and, while circulating with the money from one hand to the next, we became witnesses of everyday life in China. The accompaniment of “Renminbi” - Chinese for the “people’s money” - took us four weeks and 4,000 kilometres leading us into the individual stories and value conceptions...

I got a feelin' called the blues, oh, Lord
Since my baby said goodbye
Lord, I don't know what I'll do
All I do is sit and sigh, oh, Lord
That last long day she said goodbye
Well Lord I thought I would cry
She'll do me, she'll do you, she's got that kind of lovin'
Lord, I love to hear her when she calls me sweet daddy
Such a beautiful dream
I hate to think it all over, I've lost my heart it seems
I've grown so used to you somehow
Well, I'm nobody's sugar daddy now
And I'm lonesome, I got the lovesick blues
Well, I'm in love, I'm in love, with a beautiful gal
That's what's the matter with me
Well, I'm in love, I'm in love, with a beautiful gal
But she don't care about me
Lord, I tried and I tried, to keep her satisfied
But she just wouldn't stay
So now that she is leavin'
This is all I can say
I got a feelin' called the blues, oh, Lord
Since my baby said goodbye
Lord, I don't know what I'll do
All I do is sit and sigh, oh, Lord
That last long day she said goodbye
Well Lord I thought I would cry
She'll do me, she'll do you, she's got that kind of lovin'
