State govt to fund Nagpur Mahotsav

Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation's (NMC) Nagpur Mahotsav is set to get funded by the state government every year. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis assured financial and technical assistance from the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) for the city's annual fest during the inauguration of the programme.

Amid light showers, Fadnavis and union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the festival at Yeshwant stadium on Sunday evening.

Playback singer Mohit Chauhan gave a sizzling start to four-day Nagpur Mahotsav with his concert. Beginning with romantic numbers like "is this love" from Kismat Konnection and "tujhe bhula diya" from Anjaana Anjaani, Mohit mesmerized Nagpurians with his latest beats like "matargashti" from Tamasha. But the highlight of the evening was his hit album song 'dooba dooba', which was being demanded by the audience since the beginning of the concert.

Today's programme include the felicitation of 122 freedom fighters from the city and a kavi sammelan which will see participation of the likes of Munnawar Rana of Kolkata, Arjun Sisodiya of New Delhi, Govind Rathi of Sujalpur, Rachana Tiwari of Sonbhadra and Sudip Bhola of Jabalpur.

Selvaganesh, Niladri Kumar and Kartik will present a musical fusion programme on March 1 followed by Marathi musical night by Ashok Hande.

NGO Green Vigil Foundation held an awareness campaign about environment conservation. The volunteers of the organization spoke to citizens and took their feedback on NMC's projects and civic amenities
