Air Force One is the official air traffic control call sign of a United States Air Force aircraft carrying the President of the United States. In common parlance the term refers to those Air Force aircraft specifically designed, built, and used for the purpose of transporting the president. The Presidential aircraft is a prominent symbol of the American presidency and its power.
The idea of designating specific military aircraft to transport the President arose in 1943, when officials of the United States Army Air Forces -- the predecessor to the U.S. Air Force -- became concerned with relying on commercial airlines to transport the President. A C-87 Liberator Express was reconfigured for use as a presidential transport; however, it was rejected by the Secret Service amid concerns over the aircraft's safety record. A C-54 Skymaster was then converted for presidential use; this aircraft, dubbed the Sacred Cow, transported President Franklin D. Roosevelt to the Yalta Conference in February 1945, and was subsequently used for another two years by President Harry S. Truman.
The "Air Force One" call sign was created after a 1953 incident during which a flight carrying President Dwight D. Eisenhower entered the same airspace as a commercial airline flight using the same call sign. Several aircraft have been used as Air Force One since the creation of the presidential fleet, including two Boeing 707s introduced in the 1960s and 1970s, respectively; since 1990, the presidential fleet has consisted of two Boeing VC-25As -- specifically configured, highly customized Boeing 747-200B series aircraft. The Air Force is looking into replacing the two VC-25 aircraft with three replacement aircraft beginning in 2017.

Narendra Damodardas Modi (Gujarati: [nəreːnd̪rə d̪ɑːmoːd̪ərəd̪ɑːs moːd̪iː], born 17 September 1950) is the 15th and current Prime Minister of India, in office since 26 May 2014. Modi, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014 and is the Member of Parliament (MP) from Varanasi. He led the BJP in the 2014 general election, which gave the party a majority in the Lok Sabha (the lower house of the Indian parliament) – a first for any party since 1984 – and was credited for 2014 BJP electoral victories in the states of Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir.
Since taking office as Prime Minister, Modi's administration has focused on reforming and modernising India's infrastructure and government, reducing bureaucracy, encouraging increased foreign direct investment, improving national standards of health and sanitation and improving foreign relations. Modi has been appreciated for starting initiatives like Swachh Bharat Mission, Make in India and Digital India. Earlier, as Chief Minister of Gujarat, Modi's economic policies (credited with encouraging economic growth in Gujarat) have been praised, although his administration has also been criticised for failing to significantly improve the human development in the state and failing to prevent the 2002 Gujarat riots. A Hindu nationalist and a former member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Modi remains a controversial figure domestically and internationally, despite his progressivism. Known for his tech savvy image, he is the second most followed politician on social media after U.S. President Barack Obama.

Air Force One is the official air traffic control call sign of a United States Air Force aircraft carrying the President of the United States. In common parlance the term refers to those Air Force aircraft specifically designed, built, and used for the purpose of transporting the president. The Presidential aircraft is a prominent symbol of the American presidency and its power.
The idea of designating specific military aircraft to transport the President arose in 1943, when officials of the United States Army Air Forces -- the predecessor to the U.S. Air Force -- became concerned with relying on commercial airlines to transport the President. A C-87 Liberator Express was reconfigured for use as a presidential transport; however, it was rejected by the Secret Service amid concerns over the aircraft's safety record. A C-54 Skymaster was then converted for presidential use; this aircraft, dubbed the Sacred Cow, transported President Franklin D. Roosevelt to the Yalta Conference in February 1945, and was subsequently used for another two years by President Harry S. Truman.
The "Air Force One" call sign was created after a 1953 incident during which a flight carrying President Dwight D. Eisenhower entered the same airspace as a commercial airline flight using the same call sign. Several aircraft have been used as Air Force One since the creation of the presidential fleet, including two Boeing 707s introduced in the 1960s and 1970s, respectively; since 1990, the presidential fleet has consisted of two Boeing VC-25As -- specifically configured, highly customized Boeing 747-200B series aircraft. The Air Force is looking into replacing the two VC-25 aircraft with three replacement aircraft beginning in 2017.

TRIP REPORT - Air Choice One (Cessna 208B), St. Louis to Chicago (ORD)
This is, without a doubt, one of the most unusual itineraries I've ever arranged. This is going to be a little long-winded, but worth reading. Let me tell you the story of how this strange flight came to be. Back in January, I was invited to a conference up in Chicago. Lodging was included, but transportation was not. I thought I'd switch things up and take Amtrak to save money. My plan was to shoot my first ever train trip report, but things quickly got derailed (nice pun, I know). Less than a week out, I ran into a schedule conflict that meant I had to push my trip up to Chicago back by one day. This is, without a doubt, one of the most unusual itineraries I've ever arranged. This is going to be a little long-winded, but worth reading. Let me tell you the story of how this strange flight came to be. Back in January, I was invited to a conference up in Chicago. Lodging was included, but transportation was not. I thought I'd switch things up and take Amtrak to save money. My plan was to shoot my first ever train trip report, but things quickly got derailed (nice pun, I know). Less than a week out, I ran into a schedule conflict that meant I had to push my trip up to Chicago back by one day. Thankfully the Amtrak ticket was refundable, but the trains that worked with my schedule the next day were sold out. Of course, the big airlines that fly STL-Chicago (American, Southwest, and United) were charging tons of money since the date was less than a week away. Parking can cost upwards of $30/night in Chicago, so driving wasn't an option. I was about to cancel the whole trip when I came up with an idea. Essential Air Service carriers charge a flat rate, meaning that they don't raise their prices as planes fill up or dates get closer. I decided to check if one of the two EAS carriers in St. Louis (Air Choice One and Cape Air) offered connecting tickets to Chicago. As it turns out, Air Choice One actually does! If you aren't familiar with Essential Air Service, it's a program run by the federal government that subsidizes flights to small cities that couldn't otherwise support air service. These flights typically connect passengers to larger airports (like St. Louis and O'Hare) where they can connect to flights on other airlines. In my case, I booked a ticket from St. Louis to O'Hare that stopped in a small town called Decatur, Illinois along the way. The point of the flight is (in theory) to get people in and out of Decatur, but Air Choice One routes their planes to go from STL-DEC-ORD and ORD-DEC-STL so they can allow people to stay onboard in Decatur and travel all the way between St. Louis and Chicago as well. It's not a well-known service and the fares are subsidized (in other words, cheap). I found my solution. And as it turns out, this solution allowed me to take my first ever propellor plane flight out of St. Louis. It also meant that I got to land at the world's second-busiest airport in a single engine Cessna! And to top it off, Air Choice One's staff is nothing short of awesome and made the trip lots of fun. I saved the trip and made it more fun at the same time!

The point of the flight is (in theory) to get people in and out of Decatur, but Air Choice One routes their planes to go from STL-DEC-ORD and ORD-DEC-STL so they can allow people to stay onboard in Decatur and travel all the way between St. Louis and Chicago as well. It's not a well-known service and the fares are subsidized (in other words, cheap). I found my solution. And as it turns out, this solution allowed me to take my first ever propellor plane flight out of St. Louis. It also meant that I got to land at the world's second-busiest airport in a single engine Cessna! And to top it off, Air Choice One's staff is nothing short of awesome and made the trip lots of fun. I saved the trip and made it more fun at the same time!
