As a child he began exploring art with clay. He graduated from Chungang University in Seoul, where he earned B.F.A. in 1992 and M.F.A. in 1999.
November 2006 marked U-Ram Choe's United States debut, as he opened a solo exhibition at bitforms gallery in New York. Since then he has exhibited at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts, Nashville;the Trammell & Margaret Crow Collection of Asian Art in Dallas; the 2008 Liverpool Biennial at FACT, Foundation for Art and Creative Technology, Liverpool; Shanghai Biennial; Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art, Seoul; Mori Art Museum, Tokyo; SCAI The Bathhouse, Tokyo; NTT Intercommunication Center (ICC), Tokyo; Art Basel; Seoul Museum of Art; Sungkok Art Museum, Seoul; Metropolitan Art Museum, Busan; Galleria d'Arte Moderna, Bologna; Beijing Expocenter; Seoul Olympic Art Museum; Asian Art Triennial; and Manchester Art Gallery.
Choe Woo (Hangul : 최우 Hanja : 崔瑀) (1179? - 10 December 1249) was the second Choe dictator of the Ubong Choe Military regime. He himself went out on the battlefield to lead in fighting off the Mongolian invasions. Then he realized that the government was no longer safe at the capital city of Kaesong, and so he forced the king and his officials to flee to Ganghwa island. He took some of his armies and went to Ganghwa island with them. He did this because he knew that the Mongols would not attempt a naval assault against Ganghwa. Therefore, the Goryeo government was kept safe for several decades even after the Choe regime.
Choe Woo was the son of the Goryo Dynasty military regime's founder, Choe Chung-Heon (최충헌,崔忠獻), and grandson of the Grand General Choe Won-Ho (최원호,崔元浩). Choe Woo's birthdate is unknown, but it is known that the Choe family lived in the capital of Kaesong at the time when Choe Chung-Heon assassinated Yi Ui-Min. Choe Woo was around the age of seventeen when his father assassinated the tyrant Yi in 1196, and saw how his father amassed and wielded power. Choe Woo was said to have been a skilled general and fighter as well as an exceptional statesman.

Talk to me baby, I'm listening
Lay down and tell me what's on your mind
What exactly did he do to make you cry this time
Well, I will be your comforter, I will make it right
He cast a shadow on your heart and I will bring back your light
Come in, I see he's hurt you again, when you are in pain, I'm in pain
That's part of being a friend but this is a special case
I held my feelings back because of him and now I can see it more than ever
I made a big big big, big mistake
I don't mean to disregard your feelings but I think that he's a fool
He don't know how sensitive you are and baby that just ain't cool
I'm just glad, I can be there for you when you need a helping hand
When deep inside my heart from the start I know I should've been your man
Lay down and tell me what's on your mind
What exactly did he do to make you cry this time
Well, I will be your comforter, I will make it right
He cast a shadow on your heart and I will bring back your light
I will comfort, comfort, comfort you
I will comfort, I will comfort you
I will comfort, comfort, comfort you
I will comfort, I will comfort you
I will comfort, comfort, comfort you
I will comfort, I will comfort you
I will comfort, comfort, comfort you
I will comfort, I will comfort you
Lay down and tell me what's on your mind
What exactly did he do to make you cry this time
Well, I will be your comforter, I will make it right
