Trivia
The character
Dulcea was actually supposed to have a small, green, anteater-type alien pet named Snoggle. Snoggle spoke in an alien language only Dulcea could understand, was supposed to add "comic relief" to the film, and Snoggle often was annoying to, and picked on,
Kimberly (Amy Jo Johnson). This was cut out because the character was deemed unnecessary by the crew and the scenes filmed with Snoggle had taken place when
Mariska Hargitay had recast
Gabrielle Fitzpatrick as Dulcea.
Originally, there was a twelve minute long sequence where the six
Rangers went to stay at Dulcea's home on planet Phaedos, they slept in sleeping bags of their respective
Ranger color, and trained with Dulcea the next morning on how to use their new Ninjetti powers. The scenes were filmed and
one scene of the Rangers' training is included in the making-of special on the "
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie"
DVD, as
Tommy swan dives off a rock near a lake to try and fly like a falcon. However, none of the scenes were in the theatrical cut because they were filmed when Mariska Hargitay had recast Gabrielle Fitzpatrick as Dulcea and all of Hargitay's scenes were deleted when
Fitzpatrick got the part back.
Lord Zedd's
Palace was built inside the Commemorative
Pavilion on the
Sydney Showgrounds, where filming took place between
September 15 1994 and the set was destroyed
on December 22 1994.
When
Ivan Ooze tells Zordon of all the things he had missed when trapped inside his containment egg, the black plague and the
Spanish Inquisition were scripted examples, but actor Paul Freeman ad-libbed the last line, "
The Brady Bunch reunion!"
Voice actors Dave Mallow and
Michael Sorich went on record in an interview that they were not approached about reprising their roles as the voice for
Rita Repulsa's bumbling sidekicks/henchmen Baboo and Squatt, respectively.
The voice actors were disappointed that they didn't get to reprise their roles and a new character, Mordant, was added in their place to save money.
Dulcea's back story was scripted, but cut from the final film
. In the script, Dulcea was the sole survivor of an alien race named the Nathadians and it was her race that created the power of the Ninjetti stored in the Ninjetti
Temple. Dulcea also explained she was a member of the
Order of the Meledan, a group of young warriors that defeated and imprisoned Ivan Ooze on
Earth, and that her friend Zordon was a member of the
Order.
Instead of fighting the four stone gargoyles that protected the Ninjetti Temple, the
Power Rangers were supposed to fight a second, stronger batch of Tengu
Warriors and their leader, a Tengu queen. The fight between the Rangers and Tengus was set to take place on and about a long rope bridge that went over a
deep crevice and lead to the monolith.
The bridge set had been built and was set up in front of a green screen for filming in February of 1995, but it was never used.
Actor Paul Freeman is gray eyes, but in the movie he wears brown lens who portrayed by Ivan Ooze.
There were original plans to show
Billy the
Blue Ranger (David Yost) with an
Audio Enhancer receiver that would pop out of his helmet and the receivers would rotate whenever he turned his head.
Peta-Maree Rixon, who was in the
Alpha 5 costume, could not see, hear or breathe once she had on the Alpha 5 head/helmet on. To breathe,
Nixon had a fish tank pump air line running up the inside of her
Alpha suit.
The original scripted fight with the
Power Ranger teens and the Tengus was heavily toned down for the film. In the movie, the Rangers are often leaping away from flying Tengu warriors, and the Tengus are seen tackling the Rangers to the ground or being held in the grip of Tengus. It was originally written as a more intense fight to show just how much stronger and deadlier the Tengus were. Among the sequences included were a Tengu's beak biting and cutting into
Adam's hand, a Tengu drawing blood as it scratches Kimberly's back, and Tommy getting bloody cuts as a Tengu pecks at him with his beak. This fight scene was quickly rejected from the script by the crew, because Fox and
Saban Entertainment did not want to show such a violent, scary fight sequence or have the Rangers have injuries that would draw blood to avoid complaints from parents who had already been outspoken about the violence shown in episodes of the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers television series.
