George H. Melford (February 19, 1877 – April 25, 1961) was an American stage and film actor, director, producer, and screenwriter. Often taken for granted as a director today, the stalwart Melford's name by the 1920s was, like Cecil B. DeMille's, appearing in big bold letters above the title of his films.
Born in Rochester, New York, in 1877 (though older sources state 1888) as George Henry Knauff, son of German immigrant Henrietta Knauff (the name Melford was an adopted stage name). George Knauff Melford had four sisters: Mary Knauff (Mrs. Godfrey Willis Wainwright); Henrietta Knauff; Alice Irene Knauff (Mrs. Edmond Francois Bernoudy)--all of Los Angeles—and Mrs. Frederick Kells/Keils of Ottawa, Canada. Melford graduated from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He was an accomplished stage actor working in Cincinnati, Ohio, before joining the Kalem Company motion picture studio in New York City in 1909. Hired by director Sidney Olcott for character actor roles, in the fall of 1910 he was sent to work with a film crew on the West Coast. In 1911, with Robert Vignola, he co-directed Ruth Roland in his first short film, Arizona Bill based on a script he had written. From there Melford went on to direct another 30 films for Kalem Studios until 1915, when he was hired by Jesse L. Lasky to direct feature-length films for Lasky's Feature Play Company. That same year Melford became one of the founding members of the Motion Picture Directors Association.
Hoot Gibson (August 6, 1892 – August 23, 1962) was an American rodeo champion and a pioneer cowboy film actor, director and producer.
Born Edmund Richard Gibson in Tekamah, Nebraska, he learned to ride a horse while still a very young boy. His family moved to California when he was seven years old. As a teenager he worked with horses on a ranch, which led to competition on bucking broncos at area rodeos. Given the nickname "Hoot Owl" by co-workers, the name evolved to just "Hoot".
In 1910, film director Francis Boggs was looking for experienced cowboys to appear in his silent film short, Pride of the Range. Gibson and another future star of Western films, Tom Mix, were hired. Gibson made a second film for Boggs in 1911. After a deranged employee killed Boggs, director Jack Conway hired Gibson to appear in his 1912 Western, His Only Son.
Acting for Gibson was then a minor sideline, and he continued competing in rodeos to make a living. In 1912, he won the all-around championship at the famous Pendleton Round-Up in Pendleton, Oregon and the steer roping World Championship at the Calgary Stampede.
Sheik or The Sheik may refer to:
The Shriek is an animated short film produced by Walter Lantz Productions. It is among the many cartoons of the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit series. The cartoon's title is a parody of the 1921 Paramount film The Sheik.
Oswald and the girl beagle are on a camel, riding through the Egyptian desert. One day, they are encountered by a wolf wearing a bandana and also riding a camel. The girl beagle is taken by the wolf and is brought into the latter's hideout, an ancient Egyptian temple. Though the temple's entrance is closed upon his arrival, Oswald is able to crawl under it.
In a chamber of the temple, the wolf is smooching the girl beagle. As Oswald knocks on the door, the wolf stops momentarilly to confront the rabbit. After opening the door, the wolf hurls a log at Oswald, only to miss. Oswald quickly dashes into the chamber, locking the wolf outside.
As the wolf struggles to reenter the room, Oswald pulls the bandages off a wooden mannequin, causing it to spin. He then uses it to drill a hole in one of the chambers walls to make their escape.
Jack Rutherford may refer to:
Actors: Ken Russell (actor), Dudley Sutton (actor), Rudolf Nureyev (actor), Charles Farrell (actor), John Ratzenberger (actor), Seymour Cassel (actor), Bill McKinney (actor), John Alderson (actor), Harry Fielder (actor), David de Keyser (actor), Anton Diffring (actor), Huntz Hall (actor), Percy Herbert (actor), William Hootkins (actor), Peter Vaughan (actor),
Plot: In 1926 the tragic and untimely death of a silent screen actor caused female moviegoers to riot in the streets and in some cases to commit suicide - that actor was Rudolph Valentino. Ballroom dancer Valentino manipulated his good looks and animal-like grace into a Hollywood career. His smouldering love making, tinged with a touch of masterful cruelty, expressed a sexuality which was at once both shocking and sensual.

This movie was filmed the same time as the familar version starring Bela Lugosi, using the same set. The Spanish crew came on in the evenings after the English crew finished. They would watch the English takes and try to improve on them. I used a unique combination of winds, brass, percussion and keyboard to create this score. My intention is to score the entire movie in this manner.
