Rajkumar Hirani (born 20 November 1962) is an Indian director, screenwriter and film editor of Hindi films, best known for the films Munna Bhai MBBS (2003), Lage Raho Munnabhai (2006), 3 Idiots (2009) and PK (2014). All the films directed by him went on to become huge successes at the box office. He has also won 11 Filmfare Awards.
Rajkumar Hirani was born on 20 November 1962 in Nagpur to a Sindhi family. His father Suresh Hirani ran a typing institute in Nagpur. Hirani family migrated to India from Mehrabpur, Sindh (now Pakistan) during Partition of India when Suresh Hirani was 14-year-old. Rajkumar Hirani studied in St. Francis De'Sales High School, Nagpur, Maharashtra. Rajkumar did his graduation in commerce. His parents wanted him to be a Chartered Accountant but he was more keen on Theatres, Films. Hirani helped his father in his business but he wanted to be actor in Hindi films. In college days he was involved with Hindi theatre. Suresh got his son's photographs shot and packed him off to an acting school in Mumbai. But Raju could not blend in and returned to Nagpur after three days. His father then asked Raju to apply to the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune, but the acting course had shut down by then and chances of admission to the directorial course looked slim as there were far too many applicants. So Raju opted for the editing course. He earned a scholarship, thereby reducing the load on his father's shoulders.
Abhijat Joshi (born 1969) is an Indian academic and screenwriter particularly known for his work with Vinod Chopra Productions, as the screenwriter for Lage Raho Munna Bhai (2006),3 Idiots (2009), and PK (2014). He is a professor of English at Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio since 2003.
Born and brought up at Ahmedabad,Gujarat to family of professors, including his father Jayant Joshi. Abhijat received his early education in Gujarati medium. He obtained his higher education and qualifications from shri H.K.Arts College,(With Bagal thela group) Gujarat University. After doing his M.A. (English) with distinction.
He received his Master of Fine Arts from the University of Texas, Austin. Apart from English, he can fluently read, write and speak Gujarati language as he was born and brought up amidst Gujarati speaking people.
He studied in one of the very reputable Gujarati school named Shree Vidyanagar High School in Ahmedabad where he took part in the annual competitions for Gujarati dramas in the school. He won multiple awards as he himself is really a good actor. He enjoyed playing cricket. He joined C.U. Shah Arts College situated in western part of Ahmedabad city, as a professor of English for a while before moving to US for his MFA degree. Writing stories and plays was his passion from his childhood. He penned number of plays, skits in Gujarati and English languages.
Anupama Chopra (born 23 February 1967) is an Indian author, journalist and film critic. She has written several books on Indian cinema and has been a film critic for NDTV, India Today, as well as the Hindustan Times. She also hosted a weekly film review show The Front Row With Anupama Chopra, on Star World.
She won the 2000 National Film Award for Best Book on Cinema for her first book Sholay: The Making of a Classic.
Anupama Chopra was born as Anupama Chandra in Calcutta, India to Chandra Parshad family. She has also lived in Badaiyon, a city in UP. Her father Navin Chandra was the eldest of the brothers and sisters of Anupama's grandfather, originally from Delhi, was an executive with Union Carbide, and her mother Kamna Chandra was a scriptwriter; she wrote dialogues for such films as Prem Rog (1982) and Chandni (1989). Chopra grew up with her brother and sister in Mumbai, where her family lived in Nepean Sea Road and then in Cuffe Parade. Her sister Tanuja Chandra is a Bollywood director and screenwriter; and her brother Vikram Chandra is a novelist, who splits his time between California and India. She also lived in Hong Kong for several years as a teenager. In 1987, she graduated from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai with a BA in English Literature. Later received MA from Northwestern University in Journalism.
Komal Nahta is the editor and publisher of "Film Information" and a television show host. He is an anchor of the Trade show ETC Bollywood Business on the Bollywood TV channels ETC and Zee Cinema. He is in the advisory board of Cinema Capital and other top companies. He is the son of film producer Ramraj Nahata.
His interviews are carried by CNBC, STAR, Zee, B4U, NDTV, Zoom and Doordarshan. He was also the Bollywood representative of the BBC for almost 10 years. The Asian Development bank(ADB) has appointed him advisor for its film financing division. He has recently launched a new tabloid called "The Film Street Journal".
On 26 April 2010, Nahta replaced Taran Adarsh as the host of ETC Bollywood Business on the Indian TV channels ETC (India) and Zee Cinema (UK). His show airs daily on weekdays at 8:30 pm in India and at 7:30 pm in the UK. On Mondays, the show is about the previous Friday's collections. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Nahta speaks to various artists from the film industry. Thursdays preview films releasing on Friday. On Fridays, Nahta reviews films released on that day. The show launched the first episode with Sajid Nadiadwala as the guest. He was also the Editor of Entertainment website koimoi.com.
