After cutting his teeth as a session and tour player with Johnny Burnette (“You’re Sixteen”) and later as a producer with Stax Records, Moman would start American Sound Studio in Memphis in 1967 ... Thomas, Joe Tex, The Box Tops and, most notably, Elvis Presley ... Moman’s last notable production was with The Highwaymen, a country supergroup consisting of Nelson, Jennings as well as Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson....

Long regarded as the "fifth Highwayman" for his role in producing the country supergroup that included Jennings, Nelson, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson, Moman also co-wrote Jennings' 1977 crossover hit, "Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)," and in 1982 produced Nelson's CMA Award-winning smash, "Always on My Mind ." ... Soon, he was playing rockabilly guitar in the touring bands of Johnny Burnette and Gene Vincent ... ....

Elvis appeared live on KWEM Radio twice in 1954 before signing with Sam Phillips at SUN records and becoming the “King of Rock and Roll.” In one of those performances, he sang with Johnny Burnette and the Rock n Roll Trio, which also included Johnny’s brother Dorsey Burnette and Paul Burlison. Elvis and Johnny met when he and the Burnette brothers all hung out in the Lauderdale Courts apartments in Memphis....
