The Cíes Islands are an archipelago off the coast of Pontevedra in Galicia (Spain), in the mouth of the Ría de Vigo. They belong to the parish of San Francisco de Afora, in the municipality of Vigo. They were declared a Nature Reserve in 1980 and are included in the Atlantic Islands of Galicia National Park (Parque Nacional Marítimo-Terrestre das Illas Atlánticas de Galicia) created in 2002.
In February 2007 the British newspaper The Guardian chose the beach of Rodas on the island of Monteagudo, as "the best beach in the world."
The Cíes consist of three islands, Monteagudo ("Sharp Mount" or North Island), do Faro ("Lighthouse Island", or Isla do Medio, "Middle Island") and San Martiño ("Saint Martin" or South Island).
Monteagudo is separated from the Morrazo peninsula by the North Canal while San Martiño is separated from the coast of Santoulo cape (mount Ferro) by the Freu da Porta Strait. The Do Faro island is linked to the North island by an accumulation of sand 1,200 m (3,937 ft) long known as Rodas beach, in the eastern side of the island. During high tide the sea flows between the islands in the western side and, blocked by the beach it fills the lagoon between the sandy area and the rocks. The highest peak is the Alto das Cíes (197 m (646 ft)) in Monteagudo.
A nature reserve (natural reserve, bioreserve, (natural/nature) preserve or (national/nature) conserve) is a protected area of importance for wildlife, flora, fauna or features of geological or other special interest, which is reserved and managed for conservation and to provide special opportunities for study or research. Nature reserves may be designated by government institutions in some countries, or by private landowners, such as charities and research institutions, regardless of nationality. Nature reserves fall into different IUCN categories depending on the level of protection afforded by local laws.
Cultural practices that roughly equate to the establishment and maintenance of reserved areas for animals date back to antiquity, with King Devanampiya Tissa of Sri Lanka establishing one of the world's earliest wildlife sanctuaries in the 3rd century BC. Early reservations often had a religious underpinning, such as the 'evil forest' areas of West Africa which were forbidden to humans, who were threatened with spiritual attack if they went there. Sacred areas taboo from human entry to fishing and hunting are known by many ancient cultures worldwide.
San Martiño (Saint Martin) is a small island off the north coast of Galician, Spain, at the mouth of the Sor river and the beginning of Ría (estuary) of O Barqueiro.
It is formed from a meander of the Sor river.
The island belongs to the parish of As Negradas, municipality of O Vicedo.
The island had a Celtic settlement (Castro) on the hill in the middle of the island. This settlement is called "Cova dos Mouros" by the local people.
During the Middle Ages there was a Benedictine convent that lasted until the 15th century, Maria Vizoso being its last prioress.
It was a fertile, well-cultivated soil. Nowadays it is the island with the most forest mass (eucalyptus) in all of Europe.

For those interested in travel & adventure only! In the summer of 2016 an old school friend showed me his hometown of Cangas/Vigo in North Spain. Showing me both tourist & genuine sides of Spain. One of our adventures took us to the Island of 'Cies' sanctuary of many endangered species of birds. We headed up to the lighthouse to see some stunning views of the sunset, horizon & surrounding islands. Unfortunately due to the wine we took to hydrate ourselves we got in a state and by the time we reached the top it was 11:30pm, it was pitch black. What then followed was a dangerous trek back down the mountain in darkness with bird bombings, pothole tumbles and cliff edges just feet next to us. With endless woods and no significant landmarks, we continue with only my phone torch to guide ...
The fleet of young sailors continue their journey along the Spanish coast, and we are part of it! The coast is clustered with "Rías", river inlets, that provide protected anchorages. We hop down some of these Rías on our way to Portugal. And of course: nothing goes according to plan. Eventually we find an awesome private beach in the Ría de Vigo and enjoy life on anchor. --- Website: http://two-aboard-tuuli.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/twoaboardtuuli Twitter: https://twitter.com/twoaboardtuuli Instagram: https://instagram.com/twoaboardtuuli Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/twoaboardtuuli -- Music by: Podington Bear, Jahzzar & Gillcuddy

Mets-toi tout nu, si t'es un homme.
Histoire de voir où nous en sommes.
Qu'on me donne un primate.
Sans cravate.
Un Zorro.
Sans rien sur le dos...
t'es bien plus beau comme ça.
Un point c'est tout.
Un point c'est toi.
Je t'aime comme ça.
Un point c'est tout.
Un point c'est toi.
Sans artifice.
Où est le vice...
enlève la tenue.
Si t'es un homme.
Qui peut le plus.
Peut le minimum.
Et comme ça.
Tu restes la faiblesse.
De mon for intérieur.
Et moi, maîtresse.
En ta demeure...
t'es bien plus mâle comme ça.
Un point c'est tout.
Un point c'est toi.
Je t'aime comme ça.
Un point c'est tout.
Un point c'est toi.
Sans dessus, ni dessous.
Et puis c'est tout.
Et c'est comme ça...
gageons que tes états sauvages.
Feront moins de ravages.
Que tes plumes de paon.
Quand toi Tarzan.
Moi j'aime.
Quand tu tiens d'Adam.
Moi je tiens à toi.
t'es bien plus beau comme ça.
Un point c'est tout.
Un point c'est toi...
Je t'aime comme ça.
Un point c'est tout.
Un point c'est toi.
Sans rien du tout.
Sans rien que toi.
