A national park is a park in use for conservation purposes. Often it is a reserve of natural, semi-natural, or developed land that a sovereign state declares or owns. Although individual nations designate their own national parks differently, there is a common idea: the conservation of 'wild nature' for posterity and as a symbol of national pride. An international organization, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and its World Commission on Protected Areas, has defined "National Park" as its Category II type of protected areas.
While this type of national park had been proposed previously, the United States established the first "public park or pleasuring-ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people", Yellowstone National Park, in 1872. Although Yellowstone was not officially termed a "national park" in its establishing law, it was always termed such in practice and is widely held to be the first and oldest national park in the world. The first area to use "national park" in its creation legislation was the US's Mackinac Island, in 1875. Australia's Royal National Park, established in 1879, was the world's third official national park. In 1895 ownership of Mackinac Island was transferred to the State of Michigan as a state park and national park status was consequently lost. As a result, Australia's Royal National Park is by some considerations the second oldest national park now in existence.

This is day three of our trip to Mount Rainier National Park. It's mostly driving down out of the mountain and traveling home to St. Louis. We stayed in a KOA campground to avoid the fear of cougar attacks and get some sleep before our flight home. Enjoy, and check out the playlist of exciting stuff.
A beautiful and easy trail to hike in Mt. Rainier National Park. A beautiful, easy but dramatic trail that showcases some of the best old growth trees in Mount Rainier National Park. - Created at TripWow by TravelPod Attractions (a TripAdvisor™ company) Grove Of The . We spent 2 nights at Ohanapecosh Campground at Mt. Rainier National Park and went on 4 hikes: 2 from Paradise (Alta Vista Trail and High Lakes . Being a tree nerd, I again had to visit an ancient tree grove, this is one of my favorites! 1000 year old trees! .For more adventures: .
Hiking to the base of Comet Falls. The trail is just over 3 miles and it's an easy hike with a very impressive waterfall at the end. You can continue up a more strenuous trail to the top, called Van Trump Park, which has good view of the mountain. We didn't go up to the top that day due to the poor visibility of the mountain, which is common at Mt. Rainier. Video taken with: GoPro Hero 3+ Black Edition & iPhone 6s. This video is about camping in the backcountry at Mount Rainier National Park. My coworker and I travel to Pasco, WA for a photoshoot and decide to spend a few days in the mountains in Washington. We head up to Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park and get a back country permit to camp at Maple Creek near the Stevens Canyon Waterfall on the Wonderland Trail. The ranger said it was less than a mile, it ends up being almost two straight down into a canyon to the campsite but it's worth the hardship to wake up in a beautiful camp. We hadn't planned on backpacking so we strap on our duffle bags and make the decent.
10/22/2016 - Day hike in Mount Rainier National Park, located in Ashford, Washington. During this trip we traveled up the Green Lake Trail. The trail passed by beautiful evergreen forests, natural springs, glacier run-offs, hidden trails, and ranger fall's before ending at the green lake.
Mount Rainier National Park, an expansive Washington state reserve southeast of Seattle, has glacier-capped, 14,410-ft.-high Mount Rainier as its towering centerpiece. Atop 6,400-ft.-tall Sunrise, the highest point in the park reachable by car, visitors can admire Rainier and other nearby volcanoes, including Mount Adams. Paradise overlook also offers sweeping mountain views, summertime wildflower meadows and many hiking trailheads.
Documentary from 1992 released by Readers Digest. From VHS Box: "Begin your sojourn in Mount Rainier National Park by tracing the fire-and-ice evolution that gave the mountain its spectacular character. Learn about jökulhlaups, the great flash floods created when Rainer's twin forces, volcanic heat and glacial colds collide. At Olympic National Park visit the resplendent Hoh Rain Forest. Continue to the park's glacier-sculpted mountains and to Marymere Falls, Soleduck Falls and Mount Olympus itself."
Waterfall sleep sound to help you sleep. Great to play on your laptop when staying in a hotel or motel to drown out noise from ice machines, elevators, hallways, and noisy guest rooms. Just shy of 8 hours in length, to cover irritating sounds all night. White noise is a great way to cover unwanted noise that keeps you awake. If you have trouble sleeping when you travel, all you need is this video and your laptop to get nearly 8 hours of natural waterfall sounds to help you enjoy your evening in complete bliss. Recorded early morning on a bridge near a Mt. Rainier national park campground. Video looped to increase white noise to nearly 8 hours in length so you can get a full night's rest. This is my favorite cure for insomnia. It is difficult to wear noise cancelling headphones while...
