Rob Thomas (musician)
Robert Kelly "Rob" Thomas (born February 14, 1972) is an American musician, best known as the primary songwriter and lead singer of the band Matchbox Twenty. Thomas also records and performs as a solo artist with "Lonely No More" released in 2005 becoming his biggest solo chart success. Thomas earned three Grammy Awards for co-writing and singing on the Santana triple-platinum hit "Smooth", on the album Supernatural in 1999.
He has also lent his songwriting talents to such artists as Willie Nelson, Mick Jagger, Marc Anthony, Pat Green, Taylor Hicks, Travis Tritt and Daughtry.
Since 1996, his band has released a string of hit singles to radio including "Push", "3AM", "Real World", "Back 2 Good", "Bent", "If You're Gone", "Mad Season", "Disease", "Unwell", "Bright Lights", "How Far We've Come", and "She's So Mean". In 2004, the Songwriters Hall of Fame awarded Thomas its first Starlight Award, recognizing young songwriters who have already had a lasting influence in the music industry.

Wingless Angels are a Jamaican Rastafari reggae group led by Justin Hinds, best known for their self-titled album executive produced by Keith Richards and issued on his Mindless Records imprint.

Veteran reggae musician Justin Hinds had by the 1990s moved back to live in his rural home town of Steertown near Ocho Rios where he led a group of nyabinghi musicians, including Winston "Black Skull" Thomas (who had previously worked with Talking Heads and Bad Brains),[1] Milton "Bongo Neville" Beckerd, "Bongo" Locksey Whitlock, Warrin Williamson, Maureen Fremantle (aka Sister Maureen), Vincent "Jackie" Ellis, and Bongo Jackie (aka Iron Lion). Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards had bought a home in Ocho Rios in the mid-1970s and befriended Hinds.[2][3] Richards and producer Rob Fraboni recorded the group one evening in 1995 playing in his own living room, shortly after the death of Bongo Jackie, and with overdubs added by himself, Blondie Chaplin, and Irish violinist Frankie Gavin, he released the recordings as an album on his own Mindless Records imprint (via Island Records) in 1997, dubbing the group "Wingless Angels".[2]
The album was reissued on keithrichards.com in 2003 and by Polygram in 2008.[4]
According to a news release on winglessangels.com in June 2010, new recordings made shortly before the death of Justin Hinds will be issued in September 2010 on Mindless Records. Wingless Angels II, the last known recording of Justin Hinds is now available.
Nyahbingi
Nyahbingi as a Rastafarian lifestyle,
In Rasta overstanding, Nyahbingi is the
mystical power of the Most High to mete
justice throughout the universe. Although the
genuine origin of the word that means "she
possesses many things" is Ugandan, as a
concept and theology, Nyahbingi has come
down to the Rastaman to signify "death to the
oppressors, both black and white". Therefore, it
is through prayer, music and biblical
reasonings that the Rastaman chants bingi,
calling on the forces of nature to destroy the
powers of wickedness.
Nyahbingi Drumming & Rhythms,
The musical accompaniment consists of a
heartbeat rhythm, played in 4/4 time on a
trinity of drums. Only Rastamen are allowed to
play drums at Nyahbingi. Anyone may play
shaka, or shekere.
Thunder: This is the bottom of the bingi
ensemble; there are rarely more than two
thunder players at a gathering. It is a typical
looking double-headed bass drum, played with
a mallet. an open tone on "1" and a dampened
stroke on "3". Occasionally, the thunder player
will syncopate the rhythm.
Funde: Although the funde often resembles a
requinto, the smallest conga used in Afro-Cuban music, the funde is actually the middle
drum used in Nyahbingi; it maintains the
dominant heartbeat rhythm as the funde player
makes steady, dampened strokes on
"1&"..."3&"; it is thus dually known as the

Wingless Angels are a Jamaican Rastafari reggae group led by Justin Hinds, best known for their self-titled album executive produced by Keith Richards and issued on his Mindless Records imprint.

Veteran reggae musician Justin Hinds had by the 1990s moved back to live in his rural home town of Steertown near Ocho Rios where he led a group of nyabinghi musicians, including Winston "Black Skull" Thomas (who had previously worked with Talking Heads and Bad Brains),[1] Milton "Bongo Neville" Beckerd, "Bongo" Locksey Whitlock, Warrin Williamson, Maureen Fremantle (aka Sister Maureen), Vincent "Jackie" Ellis, and Bongo Jackie (aka Iron Lion). Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards had bought a home in Ocho Rios in the mid-1970s and befriended Hinds.[2][3] Richards and producer Rob Fraboni recorded the group one evening in 1995 playing in his own living room, shortly after the death of Bongo Jackie, and with overdubs added by himself, Blondie Chaplin, and Irish violinist Frankie Gavin, he released the recordings as an album on his own Mindless Records imprint (via Island Records) in 1997, dubbing the group "Wingless Angels".[2]
The album was reissued on keithrichards.com in 2003 and by Polygram in 2008.[4]
According to a news release on winglessangels.com in June 2010, new recordings made shortly before the death of Justin Hinds will be issued in September 2010 on Mindless Records. Wingless Angels II, the last known recording of Justin Hinds is now available.
Nyahbingi
Nyahbingi as a Rastafarian lifestyle,
In Rasta overstanding, Nyahbingi is the
mystical power of the Most High to mete
justice throughout the universe. Although the
genuine origin of the word that means "she
possesses many things" is Ugandan, as a
concept and theology, Nyahbingi has come
down to the Rastaman to signify "death to the
oppressors, both black and white". Therefore, it
is through prayer, music and biblical
reasonings that the Rastaman chants bingi,
calling on the forces of nature to destroy the
powers of wickedness.
Nyahbingi Drumming & Rhythms,
The musical accompaniment consists of a
heartbeat rhythm, played in 4/4 time on a
trinity of drums. Only Rastamen are allowed to
play drums at Nyahbingi. Anyone may play
shaka, or shekere.
Thunder: This is the bottom of the bingi
ensemble; there are rarely more than two
thunder players at a gathering. It is a typical
looking double-headed bass drum, played with
a mallet. an open tone on "1" and a dampened
stroke on "3". Occasionally, the thunder player
will syncopate the rhythm.
Funde: Although the funde often resembles a
requinto, the smallest conga used in Afro-Cuban music, the funde is actually the middle
drum used in Nyahbingi; it maintains the
dominant heartbeat rhythm as the funde player
makes steady, dampened strokes on
"1&"..."3&"; it is thus dually known as the
heartbeat and has the least improvisational
role.

Later this year sees the release of iLL Manors, his first film as director-writer, charting the lives of a group of young people living in East London. Meanwhile, in the autumn, he will appear alongside Ray Winstone in the remake of the 70s TV classic The Sweeney. In an Observer interview last year Plan B said that much of his film and music work is inspired by injustice and much of it reflects on his life and upbringing as a youth in east London.

IBM is counting on a long future with Hadoop, and the evidence is in their Big Data strategy. “Hadoop is no longer an IT discussion. CEOs are asking about Hadoop, so there’s a great interest in this topic. Hadoop is a board room discussion,” said Rob Thomas, vice president of product development for Big Data and analytics at IBM, in a live interview with theCUBE. Joined by Beth Smith, the general manager for IBM’s Analytic Platform, Thomas added that “people are starting to understand the use cases,” focusing on matching systems of record to what’s happening in the social world.
Thomas stated IBM’s “big focus is how we start to bring data to the masses. We start to think in terms of personas: data science, the developer community, the business community.” The focus is now changing more to include the business users, and not focus solely on the first two personas, as “Hadoop is ultimately about insight, not about infrastructure,” said Thomas.
This approach “ties naturally to IBM’s strategy of using insights, it’s about the value you get from the data, and how that can be used to transform professions and industry,” Beth Smith added. “Clients see the value in the tech, and they are ready now to scale their workloads,” she said.
“The lines are blurring between the person that is the data scientist and the business users worried about attracting more customers,” Smith said. She used the example of a client that analyzed 4 billion tweets and finally identified 1.7 million client profiles that matched with at least 90 percent precision, and “now have data that they can apply to sales.”
Thomas added that 2015 is “the year clients become serious about Hadoop. Clients are being very aggressive about seeing new use cases” that are focused on growth. They are going to grow “by changing how they’re engaging customers, not by expanding infrastructure,” he explained.
