Vergeten en verlaten, zijn dat de juiste woorden? Het Verkeerspark Assen, voorheen bekend als de Gouverneurstuin, is/was een attractiepark met het verkeer als thema. Het is gelegen in Assen naast het Circuit van Drenthe. Het park staat sinds 2014 te koop.
Geschiedenis van het verkeerspark:
De basis voor het verkeerspark Assen werd gelegd in 1956, door politierechercheur Klaas Bos. Hij zag in de Duitse stad Essen hoe kinderen op een schoolplein met enkele krijtstrepen en kartonnen borden vertrouwd werden gemaakt met het, in die tijd snel groeiende, verkeer. Terug in Assen kostte het hem niet zoveel moeite om de toenmalige burgemeester en de middenstand van Assen ook warm te krijgen voor een soortgelijk idee. Dit mondde uit in de oprichting van een stichting, die dankzij schenkingen en donaties aan de slag kon.
In 1957 kwam er dan ook een Jeugdverkeerspark op een plein in de binnenstad; de gouverneurstuin. Wegen, verkeersborden en trapauto’s zorgden ervoor dat de spelende kinderen wegwijs in het verkeer werden gemaakt. Door de jaren heen werd het Jeugdverkeerspark uitgebreid met een verkeerstoren en scooters en werd de locatie in de binnenstad te klein. Na een aantal jaren gevestigd te zijn in het Asserbos, verhuisde het park in 1988 naar de huidige locatie aan De Haar. Er werd een nieuw park gerealiseerd op een stuk grond van 8 hectare groot. Het Jeugdverkeerspark werd omgedoopt in Verkeerspark Assen. In het park kunnen kinderen een eigen rijbewijs halen en rijden in trapauto's, een jeep, helikopters en bootjes. Er is een juniorkartbaanen een monorail. Bij de verkeerstoren wordt iedereen in de gaten gehouden, en eventueel gewezen op zijn/haar fouten. Het park is in 2005 uitgeroepen tot populairste schoolreisbestemming van Groningen en Drenthe.
In 1992 werd het park geprivatiseerd, en in 2014 ging het park niet meer open voor publiek.

Disclaimer:
Het Land van Ooit is een vrij toegankelijk terrein, het Verkeerspark daarin tegen niet. Ook het bereiken van de eigenaar ging moeilijker dan gedacht, eigenlijk helemaal niet. Na een aantal keren te hebben geprobeerd in contact te komen met de eigenaar en de gemeente om hulp gevraagd kwam ik geen stap vooruit. Na het bericht dat het park hoogstwaarschijnlijk binnenkort wordt afgebroken heb ik dit nog een keer herhaald en wederom zonder resultaat. Achteraf ben ik gewoon een draaidag gaan plannen, en zou ik wel zien wat ik tegen kwam bij het betreden van het terrein. Eenmaal daar is het terrein met respect behandeld en achtergelaten zoals aangetroffen.

Assen [ˈɑ.sə(n)] (
listen) is a municipality and a city in the northeastern Netherlands, and is the capital of the province of Drenthe. It received city rights in 1809. Assen's main claim to fame is the TT Circuit Assen the motorcycle racing circuit, where on the last Saturday in June the Dutch TT is run. Assen has a railway station: Assen railway station.
Anreep, Assen, De Haar, Graswijk, Loon, Rhee, Schieven, Ter Aard, Ubbena, Witten, Zeijen, Zeijerveen, Zeijerveld.
The history of the capital of Drenthe can be traced back to at least 1258, when a new location had to be found for the Maria in Campis monastery, which was originally built near Coevorden as a penalty for the slaughter in 1227 of the army of the Bishop of Utrecht at the hands of Drenthe's peasants, in what has come to be known as the Battle of Ane. A battle, incidentally, in which the Bishop was killed. His successor ordered the monastery to be built as a penalty. As this monastery was located in a barren peat area, which also happened to flood from time to time, a better location had to be found. A better and especially dryer spot for the Cistercian monastery was found in an area known as Witten, where at the time only a few farms were located. Around it were village communities like Deurze, Witten en Peelo. The latter has a history which goes back to the times from when Dolmens were built, but is presently situated between two new districts of Assen. The "relocated" monastery probably was erected in the 1260s, and over the centuries Assen developed around it.

Vergeten en verlaten, zijn dat de juiste woorden? Het Verkeerspark Assen, voorheen bekend als de Gouverneurstuin, is/was een attractiepark met het verkeer als thema. Het is gelegen in Assen naast het Circuit van Drenthe. Het park staat sinds 2014 te koop.
Geschiedenis van het verkeerspark:
De basis voor het verkeerspark Assen werd gelegd in 1956, door politierechercheur Klaas Bos. Hij zag in de Duitse stad Essen hoe kinderen op een schoolplein met enkele krijtstrepen en kartonnen borden vertrouwd werden gemaakt met het, in die tijd snel groeiende, verkeer. Terug in Assen kostte het hem niet zoveel moeite om de toenmalige burgemeester en de middenstand van Assen ook warm te krijgen voor een soortgelijk idee. Dit mondde uit in de oprichting van een stichting, die dankzij schenkingen en donaties aan de slag kon.
In 1957 kwam er dan ook een Jeugdverkeerspark op een plein in de binnenstad; de gouverneurstuin. Wegen, verkeersborden en trapauto’s zorgden ervoor dat de spelende kinderen wegwijs in het verkeer werden gemaakt. Door de jaren heen werd het Jeugdverkeerspark uitgebreid met een verkeerstoren en scooters en werd de locatie in de binnenstad te klein. Na een aantal jaren gevestigd te zijn in het Asserbos, verhuisde het park in 1988 naar de huidige locatie aan De Haar. Er werd een nieuw park gerealiseerd op een stuk grond van 8 hectare groot. Het Jeugdverkeerspark werd omgedoopt in Verkeerspark Assen. In het park kunnen kinderen een eigen rijbewijs halen en rijden in trapauto's, een jeep, helikopters en bootjes. Er is een juniorkartbaanen een monorail. Bij de verkeerstoren wordt iedereen in de gaten gehouden, en eventueel gewezen op zijn/haar fouten. Het park is in 2005 uitgeroepen tot populairste schoolreisbestemming van Groningen en Drenthe.
In 1992 werd het park geprivatiseerd, en in 2014 ging het park niet meer open voor publiek.

Na het bericht dat het park hoogstwaarschijnlijk binnenkort wordt afgebroken heb ik dit nog een keer herhaald en wederom zonder resultaat. Achteraf ben ik gewoon een draaidag gaan plannen, en zou ik wel zien wat ik tegen kwam bij het betreden van het terrein. TT Assen 1954
In het Drents Archief draait in de maand februari een documentaire over de TT met prachtige opnames van de races en de TT-cultuur in 1954. Ga terug naar de tijd dat Assen het rumoerige centrum was van de motorwereld met de geur van brandend rubber, paling en friet. Bekijk filmbeelden van 1954 waarin coureurs langs grazende koeien en paarden racen en de toeschouwers dit vanachter strobalen aanschouwen. Het jaar waarin Engelsman Geoff Duke op een Italiaanse machine de 500 cc wint en smeltend asfalt de races lijkt te bedreigen. De film is van 2 tot en met 26 februari 2016 tijdens openingstijden doorlopend te bekijken in de Digilounge van het Drents Archief en duurt ongeveer 30 minuten. The artwork spanning over 8,000 works has been reorganised across three floors in chronological order with clever use of lighting and space, showcases made with non-reflecting glass and muted grey walls to minimise distraction from the galleries. Restored to its former glory with modern aesthetics, this surely ranks as one of the world's greatest museums.

The small, but highly, popular Anne Frank House annually attracts up to 1 million visitors per year; expect lengthy queues. It is the historic home where Anne Frank, her family and four other Jewish people hid from the occupying Germans during WWII, after fleeing their native Germany. Finally caught by the Nazis after two years in hiding, they were taken off to concentration camps, where Anne eventually died. However, her father survived and published her diary, which takes pride of place here.

There are also a wide range of temporary exhibitions, as well as a section on the heritage of the historic home of the museum itself.

In het Drents Archief draait in de maand februari een documentaire over de TT met prachtige opnames van de races en de TT-cultuur in 1954. Ga terug naar de tijd dat Assen het rumoerige centrum was van de motorwereld met de geur van brandend rubber, paling en friet.
Bekijk filmbeelden van 1954 waarin coureurs langs grazende koeien en paarden racen en de toeschouwers dit vanachter strobalen aanschouwen. Het jaar waarin Engelsman Geoff Duke op een Italiaanse machine de 500 cc wint en smeltend asfalt de races lijkt te bedreigen.
De film is van 2 tot en met 26 februari 2016 tijdens openingstijden doorlopend te bekijken in de Digilounge van het Drents Archief en duurt ongeveer 30 minuten. De toegang is gratis en aanmelden is niet nodig. De openingstijden zijn dinsdag t/m donderdag 10.00 – 17.00 uur en vrijdag 10.00 – 13.00 uur.
