Suchitra Bhattacharya

Suchitra Bhattacharya (10 January 1950 – 12 May 2015) was an Indian novelist.

Early life and education

Suchitra Bhattacharya was born on 10 January 1950 in Bhagalpur, Bihar. She was interested in writing from her childhood.

Bhattacharya graduated from the Jogamaya Devi College, an affiliated undergraduate women's college of the historic University of Calcutta, in Kolkata.

After graduating from the University of Calcutta she married and took a break from writing. She returned to writing with short stories written in the late seventies (1978–1979). She started writing novels in the mid eighties. Within a decade, especially after publication of the novel Kacher Dewal (Glass Wall), she became one of the major writers of Bengal.

She died on May 12, 2015 at 10.45pm at her home in Dhakuria, Kolkata due to a Heart attack .

Career

Her writing focuses on contemporary social issues. She was a perceptive observer of the changing urban milieu and her writing closely examines the contemporary Bengali middle class. Crisis in human relationships and the changing values of the present era along with degeneration of the moral fiber of the society in the backdrop of globalization and consumerism are depicted in her prose. Exploitations and sufferings of women regardless of their social or economic identities find a distinct voice in her writing. While she was famous for her writing on women's issues, she did not consider herself as a feminist. She took up many odd jobs in her early youth and finally joined the public service which she left in 2004 to become a full-time writer. Her long career is reflected in many of her stories and novels.

Suchitra

Suchitra Karthik Kumar born Suchitra Ramadurai (born 14 Aug 1982) is an Indian Tamil Radio Jockey and Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu playback singer. She sung over 100 songs in three languages.

Early life

Born and brought up in Chennai, She is a B.Sc. graduate from Mar Ivanios College (Trivandrum). Later on she moved to Coimbatore for her MBA (PSG Institute of Management). She was part of a music band at PSG.

Career

She joined Sify for a year, after graduating. She responded to an ad for the post of an RJ in Radio Mirchi. She became known as Rj Suchi, with her popular morning show Hello Chennai. Her distinct and bold voice made her very popular with the younger crowd. She still does a radio show called Flight983 on Radio Mirchi, on Sunday evenings (7-9 pm). The show deals with interesting international happenings.

She started singing after a few years as RJ. She also worked as a dubbing artist for popular heroines like Shriya.

Her career as a playback singer now spans Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam films and she has several hits in all these languages to her credit. Suchitra is a sought-after performer at Corporate and other such stage shows. She has also been appreciated for her honest and positive-humour-filled judging at Reality Shows like Vijay TV's Airtel Super Singer, Sun TV's Sun Singer, Asianet's Music India, and Bol Baby Bol on Gemini Tv and Surya Tv. 'Music I Like', an album of Suchitra's renditions of Mahakavi Bharatiyaar's poetry, set to contemporary tunes and music, released by Universal Music, was a turning point in her career.

Biography

Suchitra Murali (born 22 July 1975), commonly known by her stage name Suchitra, is an Indian film actress. Debuting with the 1990 film No.20 Madras Mail she has appeared mostly in Malayalam films as well as few films in Tamil and Telugu.

Personal life

Suchitra is born to Karunakaran and Usha on 22 July 1975.She has a sister Sumitra and a brother Deepu Karunakaran who works as a director. She had her primary education from Holy Angel's Convent Trivandrum. Suchitra became a mainstream actress at a very young age when at the age of 14 she was cast as the heroine in the film No.20 Madras Mail. She left the industry at a relatively young age of 27 after her marriage to Murali in March 2002. The couple has a daughter Neha and are settled the U.S. She has opened a dance school there called "Naatya Graha Dance Academy".

Career

Suchitra did numerous films in Malayalam in the 90s mostly with heroes like Mammooty,Mohanlal , Mukesh, Jagadeesh, and Siddique. Such was her popularity that by the time she retired at the age of 27 she had already acted in 38 movies. She also acted in a handful of Tamil films. The 1991 release Gopura Vasalile, along with Karthik Muthuraman and Bhanupriya, was her most popular Tamil movie.
