The Nizami Ganjavi International Center of Azerbaijan, invited Dr. Ismail Serageldin, Director of Bibliotheca Alexandrina, to give a lecture on Nizami Ganjavi, which was delivered on 3 May 2013, in the city if Ganja at the Azerbaijan State Agrarian Academy Auditorium before a distinguished audience that included 250 professors and scholars.
Because many asked for the lecture to be made available to them,
Dr. Serageldin re-read the speech at the Studio of Bibliotheca Alexandrina, in Alexandra Egypt, on 25 May 2013.

An exhibition devoted to the 870th anniversary of Azerbaijan' genius of poet Nizami Ganjavi was organized in Paris at the Museum of Letters and Manuscripts, with organizational support from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and assistance by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in France, November 12, 2013.
Archaeological finds related to the Nizami era -- coins, samples of jewellery, household items of the Shirvanshahs and Atabeys era, reproductions of miniatures drawn by Azerbaijani artists in the Middle Ages, pottery with reflection of miniatures, carpets and batiks made on the basis of characters from the poems included in "Khamsa", photos made late in the 19th -- early in the 20th centuries in Ganja, a mock-up of the thinker-poet's mausoleum in Ganja, as well as photos of monuments erected to the poet in Baku, Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Rome, Cheboksary and Beijing were displayed at the exhibition. The guests were distributed books and brochures talking of the life and creativity of Nizami Ganjavi published by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

ہماری طرف دیکھا نہیں اور حیا کا بہانہ بنا دیا (کہ حیا آتی ہے) اور جب اس ناز و ادا و غمزے سے ہم مر گئے تو کہہ دیا کہ اس کی تو موت آئی ہوئی تھی سو مر گیا :P

زاھد نہ داشت تابِ جمالِ پری رُخاں
کنجِ گرفت و یادِ خدا را بہانہ ساخت
زاھد کو پری رخوں کے دیکھنے کی تاب نہیں ہے (اور اس وجہ سے وہ) گوشۂ تنہائی میں ہے اور یادِ خدا کا بہانہ بنایا ہوا ہے!
کنجے گرفت (بمعنی : ایک گوشہ میں بیٹھ گیا ہے)

رفتم بہ مسجدی کہ ببینم جمال دوست
دستش بہ رخ کشید و دعا را بہان ساخت
میں مسجد میں گیا کہ دوست کا جمال دیکھوں، اور اس نے اپنے ہاتھ اٹھا کر (اپنا چہرہ چھپا لیا) اور بہانہ یہ بنایا کہ دعا مانگ رہا ہوں!

مارا چو دید لغزشِ پا را بہانہ ساخت
اُس نے اپنا ہاتھ غیر کے کندھے پر از راہِ کرم (محبت کے ساتھ) رکھا ہوا تھا اور جونہی ہمیں دیکھا، لڑکھڑاھٹ کا بہانہ بنا لیا (کہ ہاتھ تو اسکے کندھے پر اس وجہ سے رکھا کہ لڑکھڑا گیا تھا :((

On Monday, December 3, 2012, the Karabakh Foundation (http://www.KarabakhFoundation.org), the Library of Alexandria, and the Nizami Ganjavi International Center proudly presented Nizami Ganjavi: Legacy of a 12th-Century Poet from Azerbaijan, a world-class exhibition of about 50 original manuscripts and rare miniatures at the beautiful and historic Josephine Butler Parks Center in Washington, D.C. The exhibition was the first of its kind in U.S. history.
The legacy of Nizami is widely felt in the Islamic world; his poetry has influenced the
development of Azerbaijani, Persian, Arabic, Turkish, Kipchaq, Kurdish, Uzbek, and Urdu poetry, among other languages. Nizami's poetry created a bridge between the pre-Islamic and Islamic worlds, between the East and the West, and indeed between ancient and modern lyrical traditions.
Nizami's best known works are his five epic poems (known as Five Treasuries, or, Khamsa), which include The Treasury of Mysteries, Khosrow and Shirin, Leyli and Majnun, Iskandarnameh, and The Seven Beauties, although he also authored a divan, or collection, of poetry. These works reflect the tremendous change as well as intellectual development that marked the period of his life span, which also coincided with the golden age of Azerbaijan as a unified state.

Nizami Ganjavi (Persian: نظامی گنجوی, Nezāmi Ganjavi; Kurdish: Nîzamî Gencewî; Azerbaijani: Nizami Gəncəvi) (1141 to 1209) (6th Hejri century), Nizami Ganje'i,Nizami, or Nezāmi, whose formal name was Jamal ad-Dīn Abū Muḥammad Ilyās ibn-Yūsuf ibn-Zakkī, was a 12th-century Persian poet. Nezāmi is considered the greatest romantic epic poet in Persian literature, who brought a colloquial and realistic style to the Persian epic. His heritage is widely appreciated and shared by Afghanistan,Azerbaijan,Iran, the Kurdistan region and Tajikistan.
Life
His personal name was Ilyas and his chosen pen-name was Nezami (also spelled as Nizami and Neẓāmi). He was born of an urban background in Ganja (Great Seljuq empire now present-day Azerbaijan) and is believed to have spent his whole life in South Caucasus. According to De Blois, Ganja was a city which at that time had predominantly an Iranian population. The Armenian historian Kirakos Gandzaketsi (Ca. 1200–1271) mentions that: "This city was densely populated with Iranians and a small number of Christians".

Archaeological finds related to the Nizami era -- coins, samples of jewellery, household items of the Shirvanshahs and Atabeys era, reproductions of miniatures drawn by Azerbaijani artists in the Middle Ages, pottery with reflection of miniatures, carpets and batiks made on the basis of characters from the poems included in "Khamsa", photos made late in the 19th -- early in the 20th centuries in Ganja, a mock-up of the thinker-poet's mausoleum in Ganja, as well as photos of monuments erected to the poet in Baku, Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Rome, Cheboksary and Beijing were displayed at the exhibition. The guests were distributed books and brochures talking of the life and creativity of Nizami Ganjavi published by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.

On Monday, December 3, 2012, the Karabakh Foundation (http://www.KarabakhFoundation.org), the Library of Alexandria, and the Nizami Ganjavi International Center proudly presented Nizami Ganjavi: Legacy of a 12th-Century Poet from Azerbaijan, a world-class exhibition of about 50 original manuscripts and rare miniatures at the beautiful and historic Josephine Butler Parks Center in Washington, D.C. The exhibition was the first of its kind in U.S. history.
The legacy of Nizami is widely felt in the Islamic world; his poetry has influenced the
development of Azerbaijani, Persian, Arabic, Turkish, Kipchaq, Kurdish, Uzbek, and Urdu poetry, among other languages. Nizami's poetry created a bridge between the pre-Islamic and Islamic worlds, between the East and the West, and indeed between ancient and modern lyrical traditions.
Nizami's best known works are his five epic poems (known as Five Treasuries, or, Khamsa), which include The Treasury of Mysteries, Khosrow and Shirin, Leyli and Majnun, Iskandarnameh, and The Seven Beauties, although he also authored a divan, or collection, of poetry. These works reflect the tremendous change as well as intellectual development that marked the period of his life span, which also coincided with the golden age of Azerbaijan as a unified state.
