Great Balls of Fire! is a 1989 American biographical film directed by Jim McBride and starring Dennis Quaid as Jerry Lee Lewis. Based on a biography by Myra Lewis and Murray M. Silver Jr., the screenplay is written by McBride and Jack Baran. The film is produced by Adam Fields, with executive producers credited as Michael Grais, Mark Victor, and Art Levinson.
The early career of Jerry Lee Lewis, when he became a teen idol and married his 13-year-old first cousin [once removed] Myra, is depicted in this film. Until the scandal of the marriage depreciated his image, many had thought Lewis would supplant Elvis Presley as the "King of Rock and Roll" in the 1950s.
Jerry Lee Lewis, nicknamed "The Killer", performs during the early years of rock and roll from 1956-1958. Lewis is shown as a man with many different sides: a skilled performer with little discipline, an alcoholic, and an abusive husband. As Lewis rises to the top of the charts with such hits as "Crazy Arms," "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin On," and "Great Balls of Fire" he falls in love with Myra Gale Brown (Winona Ryder), the 13-year-old daughter of his first cousin, and eventually marries her.
Great Balls of Fire is a multimedia installation that explores acts of seeing. The installation environment is an everyday living room, one from which anyone might have witnessed the limiting loop of information on September 11, 2001, and the days that followed. It also has characteristics of a personal library, a realm of interpretation, translation, and the a/v equipment and guts and system wires are showing. The video intercuts homeless visionary James E. Jones's sidewalk commentary with the visual task of an observer trying to grasp those 48 hours during and after the attacks. Horror and humor run on a loop - at once whetting stone and inoculation. In this constructed context of the quintessential living room/personal library, one is asked to re-experience the act of seeing, making sense, and remembering those days, the time that has since passed, and by extension, any day in history.

Music & Lyrics : Jerry Lee Lewis
You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain
Too much love drives a man insane
You broke my will, oh what a thrill
Goodness gracious great balls of fire
{ band joins }
I learned to love all of Hollywood money
You came along and you moved me honey
I changed my mind, looking fine
Goodness gracious great balls of fire
You kissed me baba, woo.....it feels good
Hold me baba, learn to let me love you like a lover should
Your fine, so kind
I'm a nervous world that your mine mine mine mine-ine
I cut my nails and I quiver my thumb
I'm really nervous but it sure is fun
Come on baba, you drive me crazy
Goodness gracious great balls of fire
{ piano solo }
Well kiss me baba, woo-oooooo....it feels good
Hold me baba
I want to love you like a lover should
Your fine, so kind
I got this world that your mine mine mine mine-ine
I cut my nails and I quiver my thumb
I'm real nervous 'cause it sure is fun
Come on baba, you drive me crazy
Goodness gracious great balls of fire
I say goodness gracious great balls of fire...oooh...
