Billy Bland (born 5 April 1932, Wilmington, North Carolina) is an American R&B singer and songwriter.
Bland, the youngest of 19 children, first sang professionally in 1947 in New York, and sang with a group called the Four Bees in the 1950s on New Orleans's Imperial Records. He left the group for a solo career in 1955 and signed a recording contract with Old Town Records.
In 1960, Bland heard Titus Turner recording the song "Let the Little Girl Dance" in the studio, and demonstrated for Turner how to sing it (along with guitarist Mickey Baker and other session musicians). The event was recorded by record producer Henry Glover, and was eventually released as a single. The tune was a hit in the U.S., peaking at #11 on the Black Singles chart and #7 on the Billboard Hot 100. Bland had two other minor hits that year, "Harmony" (U.S. Hot 100 #91) and "You Were Born to Be Loved" (U.S. Hot 100 #94). He recorded until 1963 for Old Town, and then quit the music industry.
Little Girl(s) may refer to:
"The Little Girl" is a song written by Harley Allen and recorded by American country music artist John Michael Montgomery. The song features harmony vocals by bluegrass musicians Alison Krauss and Dan Tyminski, both members of Alison Krauss and Union Station. It was released in August 2000 as the lead single from the album Brand New Me. The song became Montgomery's seventh and last No. 1 hit to date on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, and his first chart-topper since 1995's "Sold (The Grundy County Auction Incident)". The song also reached No. 35 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The song is based on an urban legend of the type referred to by website Snopes.com as "glurge" (fabricated and overly sentimental). Snopes.com states that the legend itself is unverifiable, and would have otherwise passed into obscurity had it not been for songwriter Harley Allen who, after receiving a copy of the story from his brother, wrote the song in under fifteen minutes.
The Little Theatre in Rochester, New York, commonly known as "The Little" is a movie theatre located on historic East Avenue in downtown Rochester, New York and a modest non-profit multiplex specializing in art film, including independent and foreign productions outside the United States.
Founded in 1928, The Little is one of the oldest active movie theaters built specifically to show films in the US, serving as an alternative venue for cinema of higher artistic caliber than what was popular at the time. To remain in business, The Little has created a unique theater experience for its patrons strikingly different from that of standard commercial cinemas. The Little typically shows films that never make it to the large theater chains, either due to lack of publicity, popularity, exposure, or content that is too risky and/or inappropriate for larger audiences (such as NC-17 rated films). Foreign films, independent films, some documentary films and art films are its common fare.

Billy Bland had a one-shot hit in 1960 with "Let the Little Girl Dance" (number seven), a pop-R&B-; early soul mixture very much in the same mold as records from the period by Jackie Wilson, right down to the Latinate "Lonely Teardrops" rhythm. Some of his other singles were in the same style, but Bland (not to be confused with the unrelated Bobby Bland) was actually a pretty versatile vocalist, also purveying R&B;, Bo Diddley-styled rock & roll, urban blues, and dance-craze early-'60s rock. He recorded often for Old Town from the mid-'50s through 1963, but though his range was wide, his quality was not. He was a competent journeyman no matter what his genre, never finding another song with the pop hooks of "Let the Little Girl Dance." Or writing one: though he didn't pen "Let the Little Gir...

Keb Darge is a Scottish DJ; Paul Weller is a British rock star. Both have a refined taste for Northern soul and other areas of R&B;, something that's keenly on display on their 2010 compilation Lost & Found: Real R 'n' B & Soul. Divided neatly between Darge's and Weller's picks, with the former responsible for the first half and the latter the second, Lost & Found sounds like the work of one compiler, one with a fondness for jump blues that complements the cool, uptown groove on display on the rest of the record. Scanning the track listing, it would seem that Big T. Tyler and Daddy Cleanhead wouldn't quite mesh with the '60s soul that comprises the bulk of the record, but Lost & Found is sequenced with the seamless grace of a great DJ, so this flows like a great party while kicking up a lot...

Bobby Bland - Today I Started Loving You Again - Live Video One of my true heros died yesterday. (June 23 2013) "The Man" Bobby "Blue" Bland was 83. It's a good thing I replaced the vinyl with CDs, I spent countless hours listening to the songs he sang. He wasn't a guitar slinger. That was the reason he never crossed over. He was a bluesman singing with a crooners voice, sometimes called the Sinatra of the Blues. In an interview when asked what he liked to listen to, he said he often had Perry Como on the cassette. T-Bone Walker originally did Stormy Monday, but It was Bobby's that was the definitive version. When you hear the Allman Bros. Band do it they clearly learned it from BBB. For me, I most enjoyed his take on country songs. He would bring them a bit up-tempo, and of cour...
"(3 different versions all recorded in 1983. This song was mentioned in a 1986 interview as being Tiny's "latest single". Exact year of issue is not clear as CD singles were not common in the U.S. in 1986.)" This is one of the three versions.
