Etymologically, the word allegory has been derived from the Greek word allegorein, meaning to speak in other terms. According to Encarta Encyclopedia, “Allegory is a fictional literary narrative or artistic expression that conveys a symbolic meaning parallel to but distinct from, and more important than, the literal meaning.” Oxford Dictionary of Literary Terms defines allegory as “a story or visual image with a second distinct meaning partially hidden behind its literal or visible meaning.” We can define allegory as an extended narrative where more is meant than meets the eye or the ear, i.e. which carries a second meaning along with its surface story. Allegory uses personification and metaphor to represent abstract ideas as human beings. That’s why; the characters in an allegory do not have individual traits but are embodiments of abstract ideas and bear such names as Lechery, Pride, Meekness etc. An allegory may be a prose narrative such as Bunyan’s Pilgrim’s Progress, a poem, such as Spenser’s Faerie Queen, or a play such as Everyman.

This is a final college project I made for my Creative Media course Level 3 in London. For this project I used Adobe Flash for my very first time and I am happy with the results.

I am happy to share with you this video to promote philosophy. One of my motivations was itself philosophy and my interest for it .

This allegory of Plato try to explain the creation of the human and how it is created. It is make reference to others theories of plato as the.
I used the reference of "her" to the soul as other people used it too.
- Reminiscence Theory - How we find knowledge.
It is that the soul is from the "Ideal World" that she had the true knowledge. But once she passed to the sensitive world she forget all. This is why Plato claims we can "remember" things once we talk with others and find solutions.
- Theory of forms - How the worlds were created:
I also try to make a brief explaniation in this video.
Ideal World: Where the true ideas belongs to and never ends, the true knowledge we always wanted is there.
Sensitive World: Is an imperfect copy of the Ideal World but is not where the true knowledge resides, our senses can play with us.
Following Plato´s theory every human is body and soul.
The soul belongs to the "ideal world" and is inmortal.
The soul once had all the true knowledge but her foulness and failure to control her desires makes her fell into the sensible world.
There every soul needs to control every horse to grow their wings and return to the ideal world.

The Allegory of the Cave—also known as the Analogy of the Cave, Plato's Cave, or the Parable of the Cave—is presented by the Greek philosopher Plato in his work The Republic (514a-520a) to compare "..the effect of education and the lack of it on our nature." It is written as a dialogue between Plato's brother Glaucon and his mentor Socrates, narrated by the latter. The Allegory of the Cave is presented after the metaphor of the sun (508b--509c) and the analogy of the divided line (509d--513e). All three are characterized in relation to dialectic at the end of Book VII and VIII (531d--534e).
Plato has Socrates describe a group of people who have lived chained to the wall of a cave all of their lives, facing a blank wall. The people watch shadows projected on the wall by things passing in front of a fire behind them, and begin to ascribe forms to these shadows. According to Plato's Socrates, the shadows are as close as the prisoners get to viewing reality. He then explains how the philosopher is like a prisoner who is freed from the cave and comes to understand that the shadows on the wall do not make up reality at all, as he can perceive the true form of reality rather than the mere shadows seen by the prisoners.
Socrates remarks that this allegory can be taken with what was said before, namely the metaphor of the Sun, and the divided line. In particular, he likens
"the region revealed through sight"—the ordinary objects we see around us—"to the prison home, and the light of the fire in it to the power of the Sun. And in applying the going up and the seeing of what's above to the soul's journey to the intelligible place, you not mistake my expectation, since you desire to hear it. A god doubtless knows if it happens to be true. At all events, this is the way the phenomena look to me: in the region of the knowable the last thing to be seen, and that with considerable effort, is the idea of good; but once seen, it must be concluded that this is indeed the cause for all things of all that is right and beautiful—in the visible realm it gives birth to light and its sovereign; in the intelligible realm, itself sovereign, it provided truth and intelligence—and that the man who is going to act prudently in private or in public must see you it" (517b--c).
After "returning from divine contemplations to human evils", a man
"is graceless and looks quite ridiculous when—with his sight still dim and before he has gotten sufficiently accustomed to the surrounding darkness—he is compelled in courtrooms or elsewhere to contend about the shadows of justice or the representations of which they are the shadows, and to dispute about the way these things are understood by men who have never seen justice itself?" (517d--e)

As a literary device, an allegory in its most general sense is an extended metaphor. As an artistic device, an allegory is a visual symbolic representation. An example of a simple visual allegory is the image of the grim reaper. Viewers understand that the image of the grim reaper is a symbolic representation of death.

Plato - Allegory of the Cave - The Republic - Book VII
Translated by Benjamin Jowett (1817 - 1893). The Allegory of the Cave—also known as the Analogy of the Cave, Plato's Cave, or the Parable of the Cave—is presented by the Greek philosopher Plato in his work The Republic (514a-520a) to compare "..the effect of education and the lack of it on our nature." It is written as a dialogue between Plato's brother Glaucon and his mentor Socrates, narrated by the latter. The Allegory of the Cave is presented after the metaphor of the sun (508b--509c) and the analogy of the divided line (509d--513e). All three are characterized in relation to dialectic at the end of Book VII and VIII (531d--534e). Ideal World: Where the true ideas belongs to and never ends, the true knowledge we always wanted is there.
Sensitive World: Is an imperfect copy of the Ideal World but is not where the true knowledge resides, our senses can play with us.
Following Plato´s theory every human is body and soul.
The soul belongs to the "ideal world" and is inmortal.
The soul once had all the true knowledge but her foulness and failure to control her desires makes her fell into the sensible world.
There every soul needs to control every horse to grow their wings and return to the ideal world.

The Allegory of the Cave—also known as the Analogy of the Cave, Plato's Cave, or the Parable of the Cave—is presented by the Greek philosopher Plato in his work The Republic (514a-520a) to compare "..the effect of education and the lack of it on our nature." It is written as a dialogue between Plato's brother Glaucon and his mentor Socrates, narrated by the latter. The Allegory of the Cave is presented after the metaphor of the sun (508b--509c) and the analogy of the divided line (509d--513e). All three are characterized in relation to dialectic at the end of Book VII and VIII (531d--534e).
Plato has Socrates describe a group of people who have lived chained to the wall of a cave all of their lives, facing a blank wall. The people watch shadows projected on the wall by things passing in front of a fire behind them, and begin to ascribe forms to these shadows. According to Plato's Socrates, the shadows are as close as the prisoners get to viewing reality. He then explains how the philosopher is like a prisoner who is freed from the cave and comes to understand that the shadows on the wall do not make up reality at all, as he can perceive the true form of reality rather than the mere shadows seen by the prisoners.
Socrates remarks that this allegory can be taken with what was said before, namely the metaphor of the Sun, and the divided line. In particular, he likens
"the region revealed through sight"—the ordinary objects we see around us—"to the prison home, and the light of the fire in it to the power of the Sun. And in applying the going up and the seeing of what's above to the soul's journey to the intelligible place, you not mistake my expectation, since you desire to hear it. A god doubtless knows if it happens to be true. At all events, this is the way the phenomena look to me: in the region of the knowable the last thing to be seen, and that with considerable effort, is the idea of good; but once seen, it must be concluded that this is indeed the cause for all things of all that is right and beautiful—in the visible realm it gives birth to light and its sovereign; in the intelligible realm, itself sovereign, it provided truth and intelligence—and that the man who is going to act prudently in private or in public must see you it" (517b--c).
After "returning from divine contemplations to human evils", a man
"is graceless and looks quite ridiculous when—with his sight still dim and before he has gotten sufficiently accustomed to the surrounding darkness—he is compelled in courtrooms or elsewhere to contend about the shadows of justice or the representations of which they are the shadows, and to dispute about the way these things are understood by men who have never seen justice itself?" (517d--e)
