Independent paramilitary groups have a long tradition in Poland. Since Russia moved into Ukraine, these groups have seen membership triple to about 80,000. By comparison, the Polish Armed Forces are 120,000 soldiers strong.
VICE Germany visited their neighbor to find out more about these independent militias. Polish paramilitary groups have training and patriotism on par with the Polish army. We accompany trainers, weekend warriors and the so-called uniform students to see how Poland is prepared to defend itself from invasion.

Iraq War - Iraqi Paramilitary In Firefight With IS During Recent Clashes In Iraq. Iraqi Shia Paramilitary from The Kata'ib Imam Ali Brigade recently clashed with IS in Iraq. Fighting took place at the Balad Air Base,Iraq and the University of Tikrit where the paramilitary forces sucessfully holding their ground against militant attacks.
Since 2014 many areas in Iraq have become an fierce battlefield where constant fighting, firefights and clashes taking place between Iraqi government forces and IS supported by some tribal sunni militia groups.

We've taken the Para2 platform and tweaked it slightly to bring you a unique knife that you'll be proud to have in your pocket or display case, while keeping the cost reasonable. The standard S30V steel blade has been upgraded with premium CPM M4 steel, a high-speed steel with fantastic toughness and edge retention qualities. The standard black G10 scales have been changed out for natural G10 scales, which have a unique translucent green color.
This next generation Spyderco Para-Military knife features a number of inspiring changes. The revised handle has a thinner profile at the end to improve the ergonomics and the ambidextrous four-way reversible pocket clip rests deeper in the pocket as well. The blade has an elongated profile, with an increased cutting edge, finger choil and thumb ramp. Implementation of a new Bushing Pivot System generates fluid action and more consistent manufacturing tolerances. The Para-Military still has the solid, confidence inspiring Compression Lock on the handle spine. Lastly, the size of the lanyard hole has been generously increased, giving the user more carry options. The Spyderco Paramilitary 2 is a well-built, well designed knife that can withstand serious hard-use - and I've proven it. On an outing with Ben from BladeHQ, I took this knife into the cold, snowy wilderness where I did some hard cutting against numerous pine boughs, and then batoned it cross-grain into a dead tree - then also with-the-grain to split some wood. After a good deal of continuous hard use, the edge was still sharp enough to create fine shavings for a fire, and the black DLC coating on the blade was still looking very good.
Great ergonomics, a super-strong lock, very tough blade steel, and really nice aesthetics all combine in one of the best, most popular knives Spyderco has ever produced. Besides all of that, knowing what this knife can do in an emergency, I'm completely sold on the Spyderco Paramilitary 2.

Paramilitary
A paramilitary is a semi-militarized force whose organizational structure, training, subculture, and (often) function are similar to those of a professional military, and which is not included as part of a state's formal armed forces.
Under the law of war, a state may incorporate a paramilitary organization or armed agency (such as a national police, a private volunteer militia) into its combatant armed forces. The other parties to a conflict have to be notified thereof.
The use of the term paramilitary can be debated, but the general consensus being of a combatant force or organization, more military-like than civilian. Organizations that have been described as paramilitary are as diverse as the Minutemen, youth groups (from scouting to the Pioneer movement), and even martially-themed boarding schools.
Though a paramilitary is not a military force, it is usually equivalent to a military's light infantry force in terms of intensity, firepower and organizational structure. A paramilitary may also commonly fall under the command of a military, even despite not being part of the military or play an assisting role for the military in times of war.

The revised handle has a thinner profile at the end to improve the ergonomics and the ambidextrous four-way reversible pocket clip rests deeper in the pocket as well. The blade has an elongated profile, with an increased cutting edge, finger choil and thumb ramp. Implementation of a new Bushing Pivot System generates fluid action and more consistent manufacturing tolerances. The Para-Military still has the solid, confidence inspiring Compression Lock on the handle spine. Lastly, the size of the lanyard hole has been generously increased, giving the user more carry options. This all results in more than just change for the sake of change, it's a real improvement on an already great knife.

On an outing with Ben from BladeHQ, I took this knife into the cold, snowy wilderness where I did some hard cutting against numerous pine boughs, and then batoned it cross-grain into a dead tree - then also with-the-grain to split some wood. After a good deal of continuous hard use, the edge was still sharp enough to create fine shavings for a fire, and the black DLC coating on the blade was still looking very good.
Great ergonomics, a super-strong lock, very tough blade steel, and really nice aesthetics all combine in one of the best, most popular knives Spyderco has ever produced. Besides all of that, knowing what this knife can do in an emergency, I'm completely sold on the Spyderco Paramilitary 2.
