Today's video is quite a special one - one that's been requested for a long time...we're looking at the history of the almighty Commodore Amiga - how it came to be, how it flourished, and how arguably the best and most advanced computer of the 80's was mismanaged and manhandled into never quite becoming the computer it should have been. British folk may not be aware of the chaos that reigned behind the scenes in America, and Americans may not be aware of the success the computer had in Europe that arguably kept it - and Commodore - alive.
This video is split into three parts: Part 1 covers the story of how the Amiga almost became the Atari ST, and the subsequent war between the two computers that followed. Part 2 covers the computer's mismanagement by Commodore and all that led to the fall of the company. Part 3 covers the long time that Amiga Inc. has spent in the wilderness, still existing but thrown around all over the place by people who simply couldn't make good on their promises.
It's a bumper video, to be sure - just remember that only Amiga makes it possible. Enjoy!

The Amiga is a family of personal computers marketed by Commodore in the 1980s and 1990s. The first model was launched in 1985 as a high-end home computer and became popular for its graphical, audio and multi-tasking abilities. The Amiga provided a significant upgrade from 8-bit computers, such as the Commodore 64, and the platform quickly grew in popularity among computer enthusiasts. The best selling model, the Amiga 500, was introduced in 1987 and became the leading home computer of the late 1980s and early 1990s in much of Western Europe. In North America success was more modest. The Amiga went on to sell approximately six million units. Second generation Amiga systems (the A1200 and the A4000) were released in 1992. However, poor marketing and failure to repeat the technological advances of the first systems meant that the Amiga quickly lost its market share to competing platforms, such as the fourth generation game consoles, Apple Macintosh and IBM PC compatibles.
Based on the Motorola 68000 series of microprocessors, the machine sports a custom chipset with graphics and sound capabilities that were unprecedented for the price, and a pre-emptive multitasking operating system called AmigaOS.

João Bosco de Freitas Mucci, better known as João Bosco (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈʒoãw ˈbosku]) is a noted Brazilian singer-songwriter with a distinctive style as a guitarist. In the 1970s he established his reputation in Brazilian MPB alongside collaborator lyricist Aldir Blanc.
Born on July 13, 1946, in Ponte Nova, Minas Gerais, João Bosco's profession was engineering when he moved to Rio de Janeiro, where his songs were also recorded by Elis Regina and were a success. He soon became admired as a versatile vocalist and a dynamic performer. João Bosco has been noted for "his singular fusion of Arab culture, Afro-American music and Brazilian styles bossa nova," influenced by American jazz.[citation needed] In the introduction to his three-volume Songbook, Almir Chediak observes, "Brilliant composer João Bosco's melodic and harmonic constructions are among the most auspicious in Brazilian music." Chapter Five of Masters of Contemporary Brazilian Song MPB 1965-1985 by Charles A. Perrone (U Texas P 1989) is dedicated to the work of Bosco and Blanc.

Today's video is quite a special one - one that's been requested for a long time...we're looking at the history of the almighty Commodore Amiga - how it came to be, how it flourished, and how arguably the best and most advanced computer of the 80's was mismanaged and manhandled into never quite becoming the computer it should have been. British folk may not be aware of the chaos that reigned behind the scenes in America, and Americans may not be aware of the success the computer had in Europe that arguably kept it - and Commodore - alive.
This video is split into three parts: Part 1 covers the story of how the Amiga almost became the Atari ST, and the subsequent war between the two computers that followed. Part 2 covers the computer's mismanagement by Commodore and all that led to the fall of the company. Part 3 covers the long time that Amiga Inc. has spent in the wilderness, still existing but thrown around all over the place by people who simply couldn't make good on their promises.
