Hugo Sperrle (7 February 1885 – 2 April 1953) was a German field marshal of the Luftwaffe during World War II. His forces were deployed solely on the Western Front and the Mediterranean throughout the war. By 1944 he had become Supreme Commander of the Luftwaffe in the West, but was subsequently dismissed when his heavily outnumbered forces were not able to significantly hamper the Allied landings in Western Europe.
Born in Ludwigsburg, he joined the German Army in 1903 and was commissioned as Leutnant, later promoted to Oberleutnant. After the outbreak of World War I, he transferred to the Luftstreitkräfte (German Army Air Service), serving as an observer in a two-seater aircraft. During the war he rose through the ranks and at its conclusion was commander of the air components of the German 7th Army.
Sperrle joined the Freikorps at the end of the war after the disbanding of the Air Service, before rejoining the Reichswehr. Since Germany was not allowed to create aerial units, he served in logistics and army command positions. After the Nazis took over, a new air force, the Luftwaffe, was established.

Shot by an unknown member of the Luftwaffe, this silent 16mm home movie (in fairly poor condition unfortunately) shows the arrival of Field Marshall Hugo Sperrle at an airfield in a Junkers Ju 52 transport plane. After an official welcome, the Field Marshall departs in a staff car. One would suspect this film was shot in occupied France after May, 1940 but there's no way to know. This is an educational and apolitical clip. This is a list based on, in my opinion, skills, achievements and potential. It has nothing to do with their believes or nazi ideology. Please do not post racist or offensive comments and enjoy the video!
Вот умели ходить фашисты ! Не чета америкосам! Интересно то,что даже летчики хорошо ходили. На видео идет "Легион "Кондор". Солист его командиром генерал-майор Хуго Шперрле (Hugo Sperrle).
The Condor Legion was a unit composed of volunteers from the German Air Force and from the German Army which served with the Nationalists during the Spanish Civil War of July 1936 to March 1939. The Condor Legion developed methods of terror bombing which were used widely in the Second World War shortly afterwards. The bombing of Guernica was the most infamous operation carried out by the Condor Legion. Hugo Sperrle commanded the unit's aircraft formations and Wilhelm Ritter von Thoma commanded the ground element. This video is targeted to blind users. The story of the final years of the respected World War II German general, Erwin Rommel.
The Luftwaffe was the aerial warfare branch of the German Wehrmacht during World War II. After the German Empire's World War I-era army air force, the Luftstreitkräfte, and the Kaiserliche Marine naval air units had been disbanded by May 1920 under the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, the Luftwaffe was reformed on 26 February 1935 and grew to become one of the strongest, most doctrinally advanced, and most battle-experienced air forces in the world when World War II started in Europe in September 1939. After the defeat of the Third Reich, the Luftwaffe was disbanded in 1946. Luftwaffe is also the generic term in German speaking countries for any national military aviation service, and the names of air forces in other countries are usually translated into German as "Luftwaffe" (e.g. Royal...
This epic film shows the 10th Grand Prix of Europe (Grand Prix D'Europe) and the Tour de France, beginning in Nice. Hosted by Bill Cullen, the film features terrific aerial footage and interviews with drivers and other participants. The route of the race goes from Nice to Clermont, to Nancy, into Belgium and then back to Rouen, Le Mans and Pau before doubling back to Nice. A portion of the race even takes place in traffic (47 minute mark) before heading to Corsica for the finish. Spoiler alert, the film was won by the great Willy Mairesse (1 October 1928 – 9 September 1969). He was a Formula One and sports car driver from Belgium. He participated in 13 World Championship Grands Prix, debuting on 19 June 1960. He achieved one podium, and scored a total of seven championship points. He comm...
U.S. National Aerobatic Champion Harold Krier is just one of the pilots introduced in this 20-minute color film on the National Championship Air Races held in Reno, Nevada, and aerobatic flying. Made in 1965 by Davidson Films, it opens with the camaraderie and competitiveness shared by pilots, The camera eavesdrops on conversations as pilots and their teams discuss horizontal rolls and potential problems as Krier is introduced at mark 02:00 and shown performing his airborne acrobatics. As aerobatics pilot Charlie Hillard explains at mark 02:30, precision aerobatic flying is not stunt flying. “Precision aerobatic flying is getting the ultimate out of an airplane,” he says at mark 02:58. “Stunt flying is something like flying through a house or crashing an airplane into a barn.” Hillard goes...
One of several films which came back to the United States in the rucksack of an American G.I., this silent 16mm home movie begins with footage of German troops in forest camouflage going on patrol. It's believed that this material is from occupied France sometime after August, 1942. Later on in the film, you will see footage from the Luftwaffe, and of Dieppe after the August raid (see below). At the 2:51 mark, troops are shown conducting combat drills and getting a bit of exercise, moving across exposed terrain and at the 4:43 mark, they are shown prepping a machine gun tripod. At 10:30, some good natured nurses are shown playing croquet with the men. At 11:05, a solemn funeral service is held for fallen comrades, with many officers in attendance. At 11:55, a grave marker of Rudolf Pl...
The scroll at the start of this 28-minute U.S. Navy film informs the viewer that part of the mission of the United States Navy is to “maintain the Polaris Missile System as a major instrument in the preservation of world peace.” So starts our journey “Around the World of Polaris” and an examination of nuclear ballistic missiles, their submarines that were in place during the Cold War, and their various ports of call in the late 1960s. Actor and announcer Ed Reimers, who appeared in a series of documentary films made by the Lockheed Space and Missile Systems Division, is our guide as he introduces us to Captain Benjamin S. Sherman, Jr., commander of Submarine Squadron (SubRon) 14 at mark 02:30, who explains the goal of the squadron is to provide mission-ready vessels at a moment’s notice. W...
The “new navy” is the focus of this 1969 educational documentary presented by the United States Navy — “The Attack Carrier: From USS Langley CV1 to USS Enterprise CVAN65.” The color film traces the development and history of aircraft carriers used by the United States Navy. Aircraft that have been used by the Navy, such as the Grumman A-6 Intruder and McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II, also are featured. The USS Enterprise is shown at sea at mark 01:14, as several fighters launch from her deck and the narrator flashes back near mark 02:30 to the old wooden USS Langley, the Navy’s first aircraft carrier that had been converted in 1920 from the bulk cargo ship USS Jupiter (AC-3). At mark 04:08 we see Rear Admiral William A. Moffett, known as the architect of naval aviation, who presented the...
