Calendar Generator FAQ

Why does the calendar default to the wrong year?

Our calendars always default to the current year. If a different year is displayed when you open the calendar page, you are probably using an out-of-date bookmark, favorite or otherwise saved link. More information

Why does the calendar show the wrong year after I saved it?

When you click on the green “Show & Save calendar” button, most of your calendar settings are saved. However, this excludes the year and month settings.

What do those symbols for phases of the moon mean?

new New moon (dark - usually not visible at all)
1st quarter First quarter
full Full moon (entirely bright)
3rd quarter Last quarter

The actual appearance of the moon in the first and last quarter of the year in the southern hemisphere is opposite of these symbols. However, we currently use these symbols to depict the moon phases for the northern as well as the southern hemisphere.

How accurate are the phases of the moon?

The phases of the moon are usually within 1 minute of the correct time (in less than 0.1 % of all calculations, where the moon phase is just around midnight, the wrong date may be displayed).

The date is calculated based on a city in the corresponding country and should be correct for the time zone of that city. For countries with many time zones it will soon be possible to calculate the moon phases for select cities in different time zones.

The Moon Phase Calculator displays local time in addition to the date.

How can I find when a given holiday was in a given year?

Go to the respective holiday article and scroll down to the list at the bottom of the page. An overview of all featured holidays and observances can be found in our holidays section. Click on a country to see a full list of holidays and observances there, then click on a holiday.

At the moment our calendars only include holidays for a select group of countries. If you have any information that can help us improve the service, please send an email to webmaster@timeanddate.com.

Which years are leap years?

There is a separate page about leap years.

When can I reuse my old calendar?

Use the Repeating Calendar Calculator to find years where the dates fall on the same weekdays.

When will holidays for country X be included?

Send us an email at webmaster@timeanddate.com. If you have official sources with information about holidays, please include the URL in your email.
