BIOS is the third album of the Costa Rican music group Gandhi.

El otro gol

"El otro gol" (English: The other goal or The another goal), known in some compilation albums as "Y otro gol" (English: And another goal), was a song made by Gandhi in honor to the Costa Rica national football team that classified to the 2002 Fifa World Cup. It was first released as "Y otro gol" in the album ¡Si se pudo! then as "El otro gol" in Bios. The song features a prominent fusion between reggae, pop and rock.

BIOS-3

BIOS-3 is a closed ecosystem at the Institute of Biophysics in Krasnoyarsk, Russia.

Its construction began in 1965, and was completed in 1972. BIOS-3 consists of a 315 m³ habitat suitable for up to three persons, and was initially used for developing closed ecosystems capable of supporting humans. It was divided into 4 compartments — one of which is a crew area. Initially one other compartment was an algal cultivator, and the other two 'phytrons' for growing wheat or vegetables. Later the algal cultivator was converted into a third phytron. A level of light comparable to sunlight was supplied in each of the 4 compartments by 20 kW xenon lamps, cooled by water jackets. The facility used 400 kW of electricity, supplied by a nearby hydroelectric power station.

Chlorella algae were used to recycle air breathed by humans, absorbing carbon dioxide and replenishing it with oxygen through photosynthesis. The algae were cultivated in stacked tanks under artificial light. To achieve a balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide, one human needed 8 m² of exposed Chlorella. Air was purified of more complex organic compounds by heating to 600 °C in the presence of a catalyst. Water and nutrients were stored in advance and were also recycled. By 1968, system efficiency had reached 85% by recycling water. Dried meat was imported into the facility, and urine and feces were generally dried and stored, rather than being recycled.

Gandhi (bookstore)

Gandhi Bookstores were created in the year of 1971; they are now one of the biggest bookstores chains in Mexico. After 40 years and more than 36 stores all over the country, besides being one of the biggest chains, it is also the most known.

History

Gandhi Bookstores were founded on June 24, 1971, by Mauricio Achar. He created the bookstore in the belief that a great amount of the country's problems were due to the lack of reading by its population. The name of the bookstore is because of Mahatma Gandhi and the influence, Mauricio, wanted to do the same. The original store occupied 150 square meters, and it was located at Miguel Ángel de Quevedo 128, south Mexico's City. Even though it was small, the store had a cafeteria of its own, were people would gather not just to read or hat, but to have cultural activities like watching movies, theater plays, listen to music, etc. This were the basic thing that interested people into going more often to the bookstore.

Today, there are 25 different Gandhi Bookstores. 12 are located within Mexico City and 13 in other parts of the Republic. The other 11 stores are inside "Palacio de Hierro". The public that comes to the libraries is mostly conformed by students, teacher, young-adults, professionals, and everyone else that is interested by the culture and look for information or entertainment.

Page Hamilton (born May 18, 1960 in Portland, Oregon) is an American guitarist, singer, songwriter and record producer, mostly noted for his work with alternative metal band Helmet. Most of his work has been in the hard rock and alternative metal styles, though he trained in jazz guitar and has substantial connections with avant-garde music and film soundtrack composition.

Biography

Raised in Medford, Oregon, Hamilton studied guitar at the University of Oregon before moving to New York to study jazz guitar at the Manhattan School of Music. While there he played in avant-garde composer Glenn Branca's guitar orchestra, performing the composer's Symphony No.6 (Devil Choirs at the Gates of Heaven), and joined noise rock band Band of Susans, performing on their Love Agenda album and Peel Sessions, before finally forming his own group, Helmet.

Helmet

Helmet initially signed to Amphetamine Reptile Records, releasing a number of 7" singles and one album, 1990's Strap It On. The band then signed to Interscope Records, releasing Meantime (1992), Betty (1994), Aftertaste (1997) and Size Matters (2004). After leaving Interscope, the band released the albums Monochrome (2006) and Seeing Eye Dog (2010).
