Vidyaranyapura, Bengaluru is situated in the northern part of Bengaluru city. Vidyaranyapura, along with several other extensions of the city comes under a constituency called Byatarayanapura. It comes under the Greater Bangalore jurisdiction of [BBMP]http://www.bmponline.org). The township is named after the great Kannada poet, saint and a priest, Vidyaranya. Folklore says that Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bengaluru, was supposedly born here.
Vidyaranyapura is situated in the north-west part of Greater Bangalore,about 3,050 ft (930 m) above the sea level,at 13°05' N and 77°33' E. Dodda Bettahalli, Vidyaranyapura is highest point in Bangalore, located 962 m (3,156 ft)above sea level.
It is a composite locality comprising multiple sub-blocks and layouts, namely AMS Layout, Balaji Layout, Defence Colony, Nanjappa Layout, Srinidhi layout, BEL (Bharat Electronics Ltd.) layout, HMT (Hindustan Machine Tools) layout, NTI (National Tuberculosis Institute) layout.
Vidyaranyapura is located close to some of the big government sector factories like BEL [Bharat Electronics Limited] and HMT [Hindustan Machine Tools]. Mohammad Sab Palya, an extension of Byatarayanapura, is a Muslim-dominated area, unlike Vidyaranyapura, which is about four kilometers from the heart of this locality.
