I visited Jammu City in December 2013. I made the video of the view of city and Tawi bridge along with Bahu fort.
Jammu Udhampur highway is the national highway and the road in Jammu and Kashmir that connects municipal committee of Udhampur with Jammu City. The highway is 64 kilometres long passing through lofty mountain terrains. The highway also provides road link which connects Katra with rest of India. The highway is the small part of Srinagar Jammu National Highway.
The highway is in the process of major reconstruction. The task is being carried out by National Highway Authority of India funded by Government of Jammu and Kashmir. The whole highway is being rebuilt as four lane road with better bitumen pavement, new traffic sign boards, foot paths, tax toll offices, traffic signals, introduction of new tunnels with minimum number of road curves which would not only provide comfort to the passengers but would also reduce distance between Udhampur and Jammu to certain extent.

Jammu and Kashmir is a state in Northern India, It is located mostly in the Himalayan mountains and shares a border with the states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab to the south. Jammu and Kashmir has an international border with China in the north and east, and the Line of Control separates it from the Pakistani-controlled territories of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit–Baltistan in the west and northwest respectively.
Formerly a part of the erstwhile Princely State of Kashmir and Jammu, which governed the larger historic region of Kashmir, the region is the subject of a territorial conflict among China, India and Pakistan. Jammu and Kashmir consists of three regions: Jammu, the Kashmir valley and Ladakh. Srinagar is the summer capital, and Jammu is the winter capital. Although the Kashmir valley is famous for its beautiful mountainous landscape, Jammu's numerous shrines attract tens of thousands of Hindu pilgrims every year. Ladakh, also known as "Little Tibet", is renowned for its remote mountain beauty and Buddhist culture. It is the only state in India with a Muslim-majority population.

Kalari (Dogri: कलाड़ी or کلاڑی) is a traditional ripened cheese product indigenous to Udhampur, Jammu province of Jammu and Kashmir state of India. It is a very dense cheese that is usually sautéd in its own fat and salted while serving. Kalaris are usually made from cow's or buffalo's milk, though kalaris made from goat's milk are also available, and have a whitish color. Traditionally Kalaris are made from raw (uncooked) full fat milk that is separated using soured milk. The solidified part is paced in doonas and sun dried. The excess liquid drips down from the semi-porous doonas and rest of the moisture is lost by sun drying. As the ambient temperature is low and the sun is strong in the mountains, the Kalari becomes dry from outside yet retains moisture from inside. Some times fungus grows on this and gives it a unique flavour.

Jammu 
pronunciation is the largest city in the Jammu Division and the winter capital of state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is situated on the banks of Tawi river. It is administered by a municipal corporation.
Geography
Jammu is located at 32°44′N 74°52′E / 32.73°N 74.87°E / 32.73; 74.87. It has an average elevation of 327 m (1,073 ft). Jammu city lies at uneven ridges of low heights at the Shivalik hills. It is surrounded by Shivalik range to the north, east and southeast while the Trikuta Range surrounds it in the north-west. It is approximately 600 kilometres (370 mi) from the national capital, New Delhi.
The city spreads around the Tawi river with the old city overlooking it from the north (right bank) while the new neighbourhoods spread around the southern side (left bank) of river. There are five bridges on the river. The city is built on a series of ridges.
Etymology
The name Jammu is derived from its ruler who founded it. Raja Jambulochan founded this city and named it Jambupur which later changed to Jammu. Many historians and locals believe that Jammu was founded by Raja Jambu Lochan in the 14th century BC. During one of his hunting campaigns, he reached the Tawi River where he saw a goat and a lion drinking water at the same place. Having satisfied their thirst, the animals went their own ways. The Raja was amazed, abandoned the idea of hunting and returned to his companions. Recounting what he had seen, he exclaimed that this place, where a lion and a goat could drink water side by side, was a place of peace and tranquility. The Raja commanded that a palace be built at this place and a city was founded around it. This city became known as Jambu-Nagar, which then later changed into Jammu.

It is a very dense cheese that is usually sautéd in its own fat and salted while serving. Kalaris are usually made from cow's or buffalo's milk, though kalaris made from goat's milk are also available, and have a whitish color. Traditionally Kalaris are made from raw (uncooked) full fat milk that is separated using soured milk. The solidified part is paced in doonas and sun dried. The excess liquid drips down from the semi-porous doonas and rest of the moisture is lost by sun drying. As the ambient temperature is low and the sun is strong in the mountains, the Kalari becomes dry from outside yet retains moisture from inside. Some times fungus grows on this and gives it a unique flavour.

Kashmir Travel Video Diary & Guides - Part 2 is about my journey to Gulmarg, Kashmir via Srinagar from Jammu by road. My destination was Indian institute of skiing and mountaineering (IISM). A very scary & hungry travel time which took me over 40 hours to reach due to snow fall and other local authorities rules and regulation, yet it was very fun and interesting. I took the bus for Jammu at 9:30 PM on 18th evening and the all the bus heading to Srinagar kashmir were stopped at end of Jammu city after half an hour of running by Kashmir police for safety and security purpose all night in the highway. We stayed there till 5 AM in the morning then bus started running. And in the way we got caught by rainfall and snow fall which made a huge traffic jam and we had stop in many places for hours....

Kashmir Travel Video Diary & Guides - Part 2 is about my journey to Gulmarg, Kashmir via Srinagar from Jammu by road. My destination was Indian institute of skiing and mountaineering (IISM). A very scary & hungry travel time which took me over 40 hours to reach due to snow fall and other local authorities rules and regulation, yet it was very fun and interesting.
I took the bus for Jammu at 9:30 PM on 18th evening and the all the bus heading to Srinagar kashmir were stopped at end of Jammu city after half an hour of running by Kashmir police for safety and security purpose all night in the highway. We stayed there till 5 AM in the morning then bus started running. And in the way we got caught by rainfall and snow fall which made a huge traffic jam and we had stop in many places for hours. The general travel time from Jammu to Srinagar is 7-8 hours which took over 30 hours to reach. As the bus was dropping at Srinagar while city would have been sleeping so I chose to go with person I got introduced in bus....and next day I reached to Gulmarg, my destiny, Indian Institute of skiing & mountaineering around 1 PM . A very long journey but a very beautiful journey. The beautiful scenery, first time snow falling memory, night walk in unknown kashmir, getting lost in snow.. all were my favorite times.

Entire Jammu region immersed in the devotion of lord Krishna ahead of Janamashtami that falls on Thursday. The celebrations were marked by an impressive Shobha Yatra that is traditionally taken out in the city on the eve of shri Krishana Janamashtami.
‘Shoba Yatra’ was taken out Wednesday which started from Raghu Nath ji Temple Jammu and after passing through various markets culminated at Raghunath Temple.
Impressive Jhankees were displayed by various temple committees and religious organizations in which the large number of devotees participated with great enthusiasm and religious fervor.
The people in different bazaars had erected welcome gates to greet the Shoba Yatra. And it was given a rousing welcome by the members of Muslim Community at Khatikan Talab where over 100 prominent members of the community had gathered to greet the Shoba Yatra to keep the traditional and age old brotherhood alive for which Jammu has always given a lead in testing times.
The members of the community led by Muslim Federation had not only erected the welcome gates in the market to receive the Shoba Yatra in a befitting way but they also garlanded the organizers of the Yatra, hugged them and offered juice and ice cream to the devotees.
The authorities had made elaborate security arrangements en-route and a big contingent of police and CRPF was escorting the Shoba Yatra. To avert any untoward incident the top police officers were also accompanying the Yatra.
Meanwhile, the markets were agog with the shoppers looking for new idols of lord krishana, dresses and other items related to decoration of temples. Provisions related to traditional fasting on this day are also in huge demands as people queued up outside stores for these items. Temples of the city have also been decorated and devotees in large numbers are visiting them to pay their obeisance to lord Krishna.

Notwithstanding the fact that several of the traffic lights installed in Jammu by the previous government have been rendered defunct for months and most of those which are functional are brazenly ignored and disregarded by the drivers, the administration is mulling installation of more traffic lights at several other junctions in the city.
Sources disclosed that in order to streamline the ever growing vehicular traffic in the city, the urban agencies have identified several squares to install new traffic lights, but it is a pity that despite the installation of traffic lights in the city for over five years now, the drivers and even the pedestrians have not been sensitized to commute in accordance with these lights. While the pedestrians have been totally clueless, the drivers have been jumping these red lights with impunity, risking innocent lives on roads and yet evading any action against them.
Controversy had erupted when the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development tendered and purchased the existing lights during the previous regime as questions were raised on the quality of lights. The apprehensions proved right as after just a few months, these lights started developing snags. “The vehicle accentuation system of these lights remained a non starter, which was an essential clause in the tender document” said a former senior officer of the department.
Lack of civic and driving sense, lack of compassion for others on the road and poor legislations against traffic violations have together tuned Jammu city into a drivers’ nightmare. At a time when the administration is likely to install more traffic lights, it is imperative that the legislations are made more stringent against the traffic violators; drivers are sensitized to respect traffic lights and it is ensured that the traffic lights are of better quality, and do not break down frequently, causing chaos on roads.

The portion between Katra and Banihal is the most critical portion where INDIAN RAILWAYS is trying their best to construct the railway line as early as possible. It involves construction of a viaduct over River Chenab which will be another feather in the cape of Indian Engineers, once it is completed. Moreover, the portion between Banihal and Qazigund has the longest railway tunnel of Indian Railways, it is the Pir Panjal Railway Tunnel, approx. 11km long. Once the whole route is completed, it will provide a direct connectivity between "Heaven on earth" - Kashmir and the rest of the parts of India.
Note: I have not provided the locations of Railway Stations, Tunnels, Bridges etc. due to security reasons.
