Interviewer: Nitin, basically you belong to which place? Nitin: I was born in Virajpet, brought up in Bangalore. I did my schooling in Bangalore. How were your school days? I did my primary schooling from Clarence High School, near Fraser Town. I did my PUC from St. Joseph's PU College. I did my engineering from CMRIT. How were your student days? They were good. I was interested in writing from a young age. I started writing when I was in the 2nd Std. At that time I used to write in children's columns in the Deccan Herald and the Times of India. At that, until I was in the 8th Std. every two three weeks an article of mine used to be published in the newspaper. I was very interested in quizzing as well. I used to participate in the interschool competitions. You used to write in the newspapers. How did you get an opportunity to do so? Who used to help you? Deccan Herald and Times of India used to invite children to write on their weekly children's columns. Deccan Herald had a children's section called 'Open Sesame'. Every week they used to ask the reader's opinions. I used to read their columns and send in my views. When I was ten years, in the 5th Std. I started writing poetry. What kind of opinions would they ask? What would attract you the most? Sometimes they were very simple like: what is your favourite movie? where do you want to go? So we had to write an article, of around a paragraph in size. Many other children used to write like me and get published. How did this writing begin? Were there any writers at home? My mother used to encourage me. She is also a writer. She writes in the Kannada and the Kodava languages. She has written a book, called 'Male Mooda'. It is in Kannada and Kodava, a book on poetry. On one page is the Kannada poem and on the opposite page is its Kodava translation. .... (see transcripts)
