Lückenlos aufgenommen auf Video steht nun ein 24-stündiger Film bzw. eine Uhr zur Verfügung. Wer sich Standard Time ansieht, wird eine Uhrzeit sehen, aber auch Menschen die diese Uhr bauen. Menschen, die mit beinahe stoischem Pflichtbewusstsein einer scheinbar sinnlosen Tätigkeit nachgehen, die jedoch eine Funktion erfüllt: Die Zeit zu zeigen.
Beim Anspruch jede einzelne Minute zu bauen, bewegen sich die Arbeiter dabei ständig am Rand des Scheiterns. Obwohl jede billige Digitaluhr aus Fernost genauer und exakter die Zeit anzeigt, mühen sich die Arbeiter ab, dieser Doktrin der Pünktlichkeit gerecht zu werden. Es ist eine umständliche, altmodische und vor allem menschliche Herangehensweise die beim Betrachten von Standard Time in den Vordergrund rückt.
Standard Time läuft auf dem Computer. Die mitgelieferte Software synchronisiert die 24 h Filmdatei mit der Systemzeit des Rechners und verwandelt den Computer in eine einzigartige Uhr. Diese kann als frei skalierbare Anzeige auf dem Desktop oder als Bildschirmschoner verwendet werden.

Time zones are based on the fact that the Earth moves 15 degrees longitude each hour. Since there are 24 hours in a day there are 24 standard time zones. (24 hours x 15º=360º)
Time zones are counted from the Prime Meridian (0º longitude). Each time zone is counted at 15 º intervals and extends 7½º either side of a central meridian. For example, Sydney, Australia lies in the 150ºE central meridian, and the time zone includes all locations between 142½ºE and 157½ºE.

At Rotterdam Central Station (NL) a "digital" clock was shown for 24 hours from 27 November to 28 November, which was meticulously kept by a total of 36 workers. Each minute was carefully adjusted.
The clock, circa 4 meters tall en 12 meters wide, stood on the location where in some years the new station will arise. The clock was part of a scaffolding construction, which made the whole 7 meters tall, 7 meters depth and 14 meters wide.
The performance was recorded on film and will be shown in Rotterdam throughout the city. The film will be precisely on time, which makes it a real clock for the people to check the time.

"Standard time" is the synchronization of clocks within a geographical area or region to a single time standard, rather than using solar time or a locally-chosen meridian to establish a local mean time standard. Historically, the concept was established during the 19th century to aid weather forecasting and train travel. Applied globally in the 20th century, the geographical areas became extended around evenly-spaced meridians into time zones which centered on them. The standard time set in each time zone has come to be defined in terms of offsets from Universal Time. In regions where daylight saving time is used, that time is defined by another offset, from the standard time in its applicable time zone .
The adoption of standard time, because of the inseparable correspondence between time and longitude, solidified the concepts of halving the globe into an eastern and western hemisphere, with one prime meridian replacing the various prime meridians that had previously been used.
A standardized time system was first used by British railways on December 11, 1847, when they switched from local mean time, which varied from place to place, to Greenwich Mean Time . It was also given the name railway time reflecting the important role the railway companies played in bringing it about. The vast majority of Great Britain's public clocks were standardized to GMT by 1855.
Until 1883 each United States railroad chose its own time standards. The Pennsylvania Railroad used the "Allegheny Time" system, an astronomical timekeeping service which had been developed by Samuel Pierpont Langley at the Western University of Pennsylvania's Allegheny Observatory in Pittsburgh. Instituted in 1869, the Allegheny Observatory's service is believed to have been the first regular and systematic system of time distribution to railroads and cities as well as the origin of the modern standard time system. By 1870 the Allegheny Time service extended over 2,500 miles with 300 telegraph offices receiving time signals. However, almost all railroads out of New York ran on New York time, and railroads west from Chicago mostly used Chicago time, but between Chicago and Pittsburgh/Buffalo the norm was Columbus time, even on railroads such as the PFtW&C; and LS&MS;, which did not run through Columbus. The Santa Fe Railroad used Jefferson City time all the way to its west end at Deming, New Mexico, as did the east-west lines across Texas; Central Pacific and Southern Pacific Railroads used San Francisco time all the way to El Paso. The Northern Pacific Railroad had seven time zones between St. Paul and the 1883 west end of the railroad at Wallula Jct; the Union Pacific Railway was at the other extreme, with only two time zones between Omaha and Ogden.

Pacific Time Zone
The Pacific Time Zone observes standard time by subtracting eight hours from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC−8). The standard time in this zone is based on the mean solar time of the 120th meridian west of the Greenwich Observatory. During daylight saving time, its time offset is UTC−7 and is thus based on the mean solar time of the 105th meridian west of the Greenwich Observatory.
In the United States and Canada, this time zone is generically called the Pacific Time Zone (PT). Specifically, it uses Pacific Standard Time (PST) when observing standard time (late autumn to early spring), and Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) when observing daylight saving time (early spring to late autumn). Most of Canada uses daylight saving time. In Mexico the UTC−8 time zone is known as the Northwest Zone, which is synchronized with the U.S. PDT daylight saving schedule.
The largest city in the Pacific Time Zone is Los Angeles, California; the city's metropolitan area is the largest in the zone.

Pacific Standard, formerly Miller-McCune, is an American magazine, published bimonthly in print and continuously online by the nonprofit Miller-McCune Center for Research, Media and Public Policy, headquartered in Santa Barbara, California.

Miller-McCune magazine was launched in 2008 by Sara Miller McCune, the founder and head of Sage Publications. Understanding Time Zones
Time zones are based on the fact that the Earth moves 15 degrees longitude each hour. Since there are 24 hours in a day there are 24 standard time zones. (24 hours x 15º=360º) Time zones are counted from the Prime Meridian (0º longitude). Each time zone is counted at 15 º intervals and extends 7½º either side of a central meridian. For example, Sydney, Australia lies in the 150ºE central meridian, and the time zone includes all locations between 142½ºE and 157½ºE.

At Rotterdam Central Station (NL) a "digital" clock was shown for 24 hours from 27 November to 28 November, which was meticulously kept by a total of 36 workers. Each minute was carefully adjusted. The clock, circa 4 meters tall en 12 meters wide, stood on the location where in some years the new station will arise. The clock was part of a scaffolding construction, which made the whole 7 meters tall, 7 meters depth and 14 meters wide. The performance was recorded on film and will be shown in Rotterdam throughout the city. The film will be precisely on time, which makes it a real clock for the people to check the time. While mainly known as a founding member of the seminal folk revival group The New Lost City Ramblers, John Cohen is also a musicologist, photographer and filmmaker who is responsible for the documentation and recording of many great appalachian musicians such as Roscoe Holcomb, Dillard Chandler, EC Ball, Frank Proffitt, and Wade Ward among many others. John was photographing Bob Dylan and the Beats in New York in the late 50's and early 60's as well as producing and directing the legendary film The High Lonesome Sound.

Historically, the concept was established during the 19th century to aid weather forecasting and train travel. However, almost all railroads out of New York ran on New York time, and railroads west from Chicago mostly used Chicago time, but between Chicago and Pittsburgh/Buffalo the norm was Columbus time, even on railroads such as the PFtW&C; and LS&MS;, which did not run through Columbus. The Santa Fe Railroad used Jefferson City time all the way to its west end at Deming, New Mexico, as did the east-west lines across Texas; Central Pacific and Southern Pacific Railroads used San Francisco time all the way to El Paso. The Northern Pacific Railroad had seven time zones between St. Paul and the 1883 west end of the railroad at Wallula Jct; the Union Pacific Railway was at the other extreme, with only two time zones between Omaha and Ogden.

John was photographing Bob Dylan and the Beats in New York in the late 50's and early 60's as well as producing and directing the legendary film The High Lonesome Sound.

The films done for Virginia's Blue Ridge are the culmination of the efforts of many creative and talented professionals from a number of organizations and businesses. It's rare that corporate films vetted by committee retain the original essence and vision drafted by the writers, directors, cinematographers, and designers, but these did. There's always some give a and take and compromise when collaborating on projects like this one, which included a tourism bureau, two advertising agencies, a film production crew with members sourced locally and from North Carolina, one of the nation's largest grocery retailers, a one of a kind custom bike builder, Roanoke's smallest but most well known eatery, and a local treasure trove which spurred a nationally broadcast reality show.
Principal photography started April 3, 2014, with a 14 hour day in Roanoke, capturing scenes from local businesses unique to the area. Six more shoots over the next five weeks generated footage of the regions natural beauty and grandeur.
The VBR "Director's Cut" is available at the campaign's web site Blue RidgeStandardTime.com The :30 TV spot is airing regionally throughout central Virginia and North Carolina. The campaign will run for sixteen weeks, eight in the Spring and eight in the Fall with a total of approximately 80,000,000 exposures.
As for production and post production, this project was filmed entirely on the Blackmagic Production Camera 4K. The films were edited in FCP X and color grading done in DaVinci Resolve and FCP X.

Understanding Time Zones
Time zones are based on the fact that the Earth moves 15 degrees longitude each hour. Since there are 24 hours in a day there are 24 standard time zones. (24 hours x 15º=360º) Time zones are counted from the Prime Meridian (0º longitude). Each time zone is counted at 15 º intervals and extends 7½º either side of a central meridian. For example, Sydney, Australia lies in the 150ºE central meridian, and the time zone includes all locations between 142½ºE and 157½ºE.

Standard Time by Mark Formanek
At Rotterdam Central Station (NL) a "digital" clock was shown for 24 hours from 27 November to 28 November, which was meticulously kept by a total of 36 workers. Each minute was carefully adjusted. The clock, circa 4 meters tall en 12 meters wide, stood on the location where in some years the new station will arise. The clock was part of a scaffolding construction, which made the whole 7 meters tall, 7 meters depth and 14 meters wide. The performance was recorded on film and will be shown in Rotterdam throughout the city. The film will be precisely on time, which makes it a real clock for the people to check the time. Beim Anspruch jede einzelne Minute zu bauen, bewegen sich die Arbeiter dabei ständig am Rand des Scheiterns. Obwohl jede billige Digitaluhr aus Fernost genauer und exakter die Zeit anzeigt, mühen sich die Arbeiter ab, dieser Doktrin der Pünktlichkeit gerecht zu werden. At Rotterdam Central Station (NL) a "digital" clock was shown for 24 hours from 27 November to 28 November, which was meticulously kept by a total of 36 workers. Each minute was carefully adjusted.
The clock, circa 4 meters tall en 12 meters wide, stood on the location where in some years the new station will arise. The clock was part of a scaffolding construction, which made the whole 7 meters tall, 7 meters depth and 14 meters wide.
The performance was recorded on film and will be shown in Rotterdam throughout the city. The film will be precisely on time, which makes it a real clock for the people to check the time.

"Standard time" is the synchronization of clocks within a geographical area or region to a single time standard, rather than using solar time or a locally-chosen meridian to establish a local mean time standard. Historically, the concept was established during the 19th century to aid weather forecasting and train travel. Applied globally in the 20th century, the geographical areas became extended around evenly-spaced meridians into time zones which centered on them. The standard time set in each time zone has come to be defined in terms of offsets from Universal Time. In regions where daylight saving time is used, that time is defined by another offset, from the standard time in its applicable time zone .
The adoption of standard time, because of the inseparable correspondence between time and longitude, solidified the concepts of halving the globe into an eastern and western hemisphere, with one prime meridian replacing the various prime meridians that had previously been used.
A standardized time system was first used by British railways on December 11, 1847, when they switched from local mean time, which varied from place to place, to Greenwich Mean Time . It was also given the name railway time reflecting the important role the railway companies played in bringing it about. The vast majority of Great Britain's public clocks were standardized to GMT by 1855.
Until 1883 each United States railroad chose its own time standards. The Pennsylvania Railroad used the "Allegheny Time" system, an astronomical timekeeping service which had been developed by Samuel Pierpont Langley at the Western University of Pennsylvania's Allegheny Observatory in Pittsburgh. Instituted in 1869, the Allegheny Observatory's service is believed to have been the first regular and systematic system of time distribution to railroads and cities as well as the origin of the modern standard time system. By 1870 the Allegheny Time service extended over 2,500 miles with 300 telegraph offices receiving time signals. However, almost all railroads out of New York ran on New York time, and railroads west from Chicago mostly used Chicago time, but between Chicago and Pittsburgh/Buffalo the norm was Columbus time, even on railroads such as the PFtW&C; and LS&MS;, which did not run through Columbus. The Santa Fe Railroad used Jefferson City time all the way to its west end at Deming, New Mexico, as did the east-west lines across Texas; Central Pacific and Southern Pacific Railroads used San Francisco time all the way to El Paso. The Northern Pacific Railroad had seven time zones between St. Paul and the 1883 west end of the railroad at Wallula Jct; the Union Pacific Railway was at the other extreme, with only two time zones between Omaha and Ogden.

It's rare that corporate films vetted by committee retain the original essence and vision drafted by the writers, directors, cinematographers, and designers, but these did. There's always some give a and take and compromise when collaborating on projects like this one, which included a tourism bureau, two advertising agencies, a film production crew with members sourced locally and from North Carolina, one of the nation's largest grocery retailers, a one of a kind custom bike builder, Roanoke's smallest but most well known eatery, and a local treasure trove which spurred a nationally broadcast reality show.
Principal photography started April 3, 2014, with a 14 hour day in Roanoke, capturing scenes from local businesses unique to the area. Six more shoots over the next five weeks generated footage of the regions natural beauty and grandeur.
The VBR "Director's Cut" is available at the campaign's web site Blue RidgeStandardTime.com The :30 TV spot is airing regionally throughout central Virginia and North Carolina. The campaign will run for sixteen weeks, eight in the Spring and eight in the Fall with a total of approximately 80,000,000 exposures.
As for production and post production, this project was filmed entirely on the Blackmagic Production Camera 4K. The films were edited in FCP X and color grading done in DaVinci Resolve and FCP X.
