Took a more-than-1hr long detour from the trail to go to Jwala Narasimha - an exhausting trek; The last stretch requires you to descend a bit along a ridge that drops off almost vertically on either side - the ridge is also somewhat narrow at places - this I found a bit unsettling; The rocks are covered with what appears to be some orange colored lichen or fungus. At the top is a small open air shrine with a pair of feet carved in stone signifying Lord Narasimha. There are many temples across India with impressive structures - Ahobilam, with its 9 Narasimha temples, appears to be one of the exceptions where nature's grandeur overwhelms anything man-made; this shrine sits at the edge of a precipice, another in a cave behind a waterfall, some others are situated in deep forest. The rock formations are very interesting - as also the trees growing off vertical rock faces; The temple seen at the beginning is the Varaha Narasimha temple
Ahobilam is an important pilgrimage center located in Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh at an altitude of above 3000 feet. At a distance of 50 kms from Nandyal, 120 Kms from Kurnool and 340 Kms from Hyderabad, The temples are built by Vijayanara kings around 16th century, there are few inscriptions indicating the involvement of Chalukyas of 8th century. Situated amidst dense Nallamala Forest, Ahobilam is one of the 108 Divya Desams. This place is also called as Nava Narasimha Kshetra since Lord Narasimha is worshipped in 9 different forms and separate temples exist for all the forms. Few of these temples have easy access, but most of them have to be reached by difficult treks through thick forest and rocky paths.

I made a two days visit in Ahobilam, in the middle of the Nallamala Forest, in Andhra Pradesh, India. There is a small city and a few kilometers away a temple complex within the forested mountains. I found there a great place where people seem definitely to bear the sens of harmony between us and them, human and animals. Filmed (November 2010) and edited (September 2013) by C. Abegg.
There are nine temples around the Nallamala Forest range, and in terms of sculpture and architecture all these nine temples stands to be an ultimate testament for the ancient sthapathis in planning and sculpting these temples.
