Took a more-than-1hr long detour from the trail to go to Jwala Narasimha - an exhausting trek; The last stretch requires you to descend a bit along a ridge that drops off almost vertically on either side - the ridge is also somewhat narrow at places - this I found a bit unsettling;
The rocks are covered with what appears to be some orange colored lichen or fungus.
At the top is a small open air shrine with a pair of feet carved in stone signifying Lord Narasimha.
There are many temples across India with impressive structures - Ahobilam, with its 9 Narasimha temples, appears to be one of the exceptions where nature's grandeur overwhelms anything man-made; this shrine sits at the edge of a precipice, another in a cave behind a waterfall, some others are situated in deep forest.
In today's world, though, roads have been built to four or five of the temples; the rest are accessible only by trekking - I hope they remain that way

The Srisailam Dam is a dam constructed across the Krishna River at Srisailam in the Kurnool district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India and is the 2nd largest capacity hydroelectric project in the country. The dam was constructed in a deep gorge in the Nallamala Hills, 300 m (980 ft) above sea level. It is 512 m (1,680 ft) long, 145 m (476 ft) high and has 12 radial crest gates. The Srisailam Dam is a dam constructed across the Krishna River at Srisailam in the Kurnool district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India and is the 2nd largest capacity hydroelectric project in the country.
The dam was constructed in a deep gorge in the Nallamala Hills, 300 m (980 ft) above sea level. It is 512 m (1,680 ft) long, 145 m (476 ft) high and has 12 radial crest gates. It has a reservoir of 800 km2 (310 sq mi). The left bank hydroelectric power station generates 6 × 150 MW of power and right bank generates 7 × 110 MW of power.
The Srisailam project began in 1960, initially as a power project, across the Krishna, near Srisailam in Andhra Pradesh. After several delays, the main dam was finally completed twenty years later in 1981. In the meantime the project was converted into a multipurpose facility with a generating capacity of 770 MW by its second stage which was expected to be completed in 1987. The dam is to provide water for an estimated 2,000 km2 (770 sq mi) with its catchment area of 206,040 km2 (79,552 sq mi) and water spread of 1,595 km2 (616 sq mi). Under the right branch canal 790 km2 (310 sq mi) in Kurnool and Kaddapa districts will have assured irrigation. From the initial modest estimate of Rs.384.7 million for a power project the total cost of the multipurpose project was estimated to cross Rs.10 billion in its enlarged form. The 143 m (469 ft) high and 512 m (1,680 ft) wide dam has alone cost Rs.4.04 billion together with the installation of four generating sets of 110 MW each. The right branch canal is estimated to cost Rs.4.49 billion and the initial investment of Rs.1.4 billion has been provided by the World Bank. The projected cost-benefit ratio of the project has been worked out at 1:1.91 at 10% interest on capital outlay.

Combing operations started in Nallamalla forests and the villages near by for Maoists.Such operations effect the villagers and tribals as they terrorize them.As long as the government sees its as law and order problem and not as a soci-economic-political problem, the problem cannot seem to be solved.

Yeduguri Sandinti Rajasekhara Reddy (8 July 1949 – 2 September 2009), popularly known as YSR, was a two-time Chief Minister of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, serving from 2004 to 2009.
Reddy was elected to the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Lok Sabha from the Kadapa constituency for four terms and to the Andhra Pradesh Assembly for five terms from the Pulivendula constituency. He won every election he contested.In 2003 he undertook a three-month-long paadayaatra, or walking tour of 1475 km during the very hot summer months, across several districts in Andhra Pradesh as a part of his election campaign.He led his party to victory in the following general and assembly elections held in 2004, and did the same in 2009.
On 2 September 2009, a helicopter carrying Reddy went missing in the Nallamala forest area. The next morning media reported that the helicopter wreckage had been found on top of Rudrakonda Hill, 40 nautical miles (74 km) from Kurnool. The five people aboard were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.Reddy was accused of amassing large amounts of money during his tenure as the Chief Minister.He is said to have used populist schemes like irrigation projects and housing schemes to his advantage and earn huge profits through them.In a leaked United States diplomatic cable, the American Consul General quotes that there was "widespread corruption that was beyond the pale even for India".

A health insurance program for rural people living below the poverty line (white card holders), known as Rajiv Arogya Shree, was instituted to pay the entire cost of any necessary surgery up to a maximum of Rs.200,000.
A free public ambulance service was originally started by Satyam and then adopted by Andhra Pradesh.
The Pavala Vaddi program provided loans at 3% interest to encourage small businesseses and entrepreneurship by rural women.
Indiramma illu was a program started to construct heavily subsidised housing for the rural poor.
A rice scheme provided a kilogram of rice for two rupees to reduce hunger.The minimum support price for rice was also raised.
Full reimbursement of college tuition for the underprivileged and reservations for minorities were instituted.
The main emphasis during Reddy's tenure was on social welfare, with a majority of his projects targeted at reducing rural poverty.Apart from these schemes, his government was a role model in implementing the central government's flagship program NREGA.
His tenure also saw significant weakening of the violent extremist left-wing Naxalite movement that was rampant in the state when he assumed office in 2004.

Reddy's Bell 430 helicopter went missing on Wednesday, 2 September 2009 at 9:35 am. Begumpet and Shamshabad air traffic controllers lost contact with the aircraft at 10:02 am while it was passing through the dense Nallamala forest area. The Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, P. Ramakanth Reddy, said that inclement weather had forced the helicopter off course.Although the sparsely populated forest area is considered to be a stronghold of the outlawed Naxal communist insurgents, the National Security Advisor of India ruled out the possibility of the Naxals bringing down the helicopter.
