I, Dr. Rahmat Rabi Zirakyar, am of Salarzai-Pashtun/Afghan heritage. I have decided in company with my Afghan brothers (Dr. Abdul Ghafar Ashraf Mujadadi, Sedique M. Mateen and Qasim Tarin) to burn the text of the wretched colonial, dividing and evil intrigue, the so-called Durand treaty, which was imposed on Afghanistan 117 years ago in 1893 by British colonialism represented by the foreign secretary of the British-governed India Sir Henry Mortimer Durand. The purpose of this evil design was to break the Pashtun resistance, divide the entire Afghan nation, deprive Afghanistan from access to Baluch-Arabian-Persian Sea, and to undermine the process of nation-building in entire Afghanistan. The division of Afghanistan remains as unnatural, illegal, immoral, and imperialistic today as it was at the end of 19th century when it was imposed.
The Pashtun/Afghan nation occupies a mass of land, which has been of great geo-strategic importance in the past and will remain in the future as well. The Great Game's rivalry of the world powers has resurfaced with renewed ferocity and heart-breaking experimentation of the world most lethal weapons in Afghanistan since October 7 of 2001.
Colonies were established to advance the military security, economic exploitation, and to project international prestige of imperial powers. From the very beginning the Afghan nation has been resisting imperial powers and their colonial designs and ambitions. The resisting Afghan nation defeated the British Empire three times in 1839, 1880 and 1919.
The Afghan resistance to British colonialism that resulted in three British defeats demonstrated to the rest of the oppressed world that Western imperialists possessed no inherent invincibility. The private imperialism of the capitalist world could not stop the advances of the social imperialism of the former Soviet Union. Just 21 years ago in 1989, the Afghan nation, not NATO, defeated the Soviet army, destroyed the Iron Curtain and freed the east European countries. Historically, the Afghan nation is the champion of defeating the Soviet social imperialism and ridiculing the racial superiority and military invincibility of western imperial arrogance. Instead of being thankful to the Afghan nation, the military organization of the private western imperialism NATO invaded Afghanistan in October of 2001- a shameless, illegal and immoral act of aggression.
The business of imperialism is business, not self-determination. For its business, once again, the western private imperialism will try to donate the wretched "Durand Line" to its adopted son Pakistan at the cost of occupied Afghanistan and occupied Pashtunkhwa. A week ago on November 8, 2010, former State Department advisor from 2002 to 2007
David Pollock wrote in Washington Post that the U.S. government "should advise Pakistan that the U.S. recognizes the Durand Line and will work with the Afghan government to lay this ancient issue to rest." The puppet regime of Kabul is legally incapable to represent the entire Afghan nation and to give the Afghan land as gift to British Pakistan. This is the reason why I presented my position on the so-called Durand treaty a month ago (October 10, 2010) on Durand Jarga program broadcasted by Ariana Afghanistan TV from California, United States of America.
Pashtuns have been fighting for 171 years against colonialism and for national independence and self-determination. The purpose of burning the colonial Durand treaty or the colonial Durand intrigue is to bring to the attention of world community, especially United Nations, the injustice against Afghans and their divided country. Also, the Durand treaty burning day shall remind the world of the fact that Pashtuns' annals are not left blank in the history books of the 21st century. Each November 14th ۲۳لړم=عقرب shall be called the National Burning Day of Durand Intrigue.

It was established after an 1893 agreement between Sir Mortimer Durand of British India and Afghan Amir Abdur Rahman Khan for fixing the limit of their respective spheres of influence as well as improving diplomatic relations and trade. It is named after Sir Mortimer Durand, K.C.I.E., a British diplomat and civil servant of colonial British India. Afghanistan was considered by the British as an independent princely state at the time, although the British controlled its foreign affairs and diplomatic relations.
The single-page agreement which contains seven short articles was signed by Durand and Abdur Rahman Khan, agreeing not to exercise interference beyond the frontier Durand Line. A joint British-Afghan demarcation survey took place starting from 1894, covering some 800 miles of the border. The resulting line later established the "Great Game" buffer zone between British and Russian interests in the region. The line as slightly modified by the Anglo-Afghan Treaty of 1919 was inherited by Pakistan following its independence from the British in 1947 becoming its modern border with Afghanistan.

Durand Line : The Truth is from an interview by David Barsanian who explains very well the conditions at which the Durand line treaty was formulated, it's political importance to the British Raj at the time and cold war between Britain and Russia.

Short history: Durand Line Treaty was a treaty between the Afghan government and the British in India in which the British deliberately drew a line to divide the PASHTOONS who dared to resist the British and push them back several times.
The Pashtoons on both sides and the King himself Amanullah Khan at the time never recognized this line and they still travel freely to both sides.
The treaty was presented in 3 languages, PASHTO, DARI and ENGLISH out of which only the ENGLISH version was signed, a language not known by the king AMANULLAH KHAN.

KANDAHAR: In the dusty badlands along its disputed border with Afghanistan, Pakistan is carving out a massive trench to keep out separatists, smugglers and militants in an attempt to bring order to a lawless, tribal region.
But like the Berlin Wall or Israel's West Bank barrier, the planned 485-kilometer trench is giving physical form to a border that locals have long seen as artificial, dividing families and crippling trade.
And it is adding to simmering tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, US allies which have long accused each other of turning a blind eye to insurgents.

The trench runs along part of the 2,640-kilometer Durand Line, named for British diplomat Mortimer Durand, who drew the now internationally recognised border in an agreement with Afghan ruler Abdur Raham Khan in 1893.
But the modern Afghan government has never accepted the border, and neither have the mainly tribal communities that straddle it.
They are accustomed to moving back and forth freely and in some cases own land on both sides.
The trench is being built in Pakistan's Balochistan province, where Baloch rebels have been battling Islamabad demanding greater autonomy and a larger share of the region's oil, gas, copper and gold.
It's an eye-sore of construction, a massive furrow 10 feet wide and 8 feet deep that already snakes 180 kilometers across the desert landscape.
Pakistan's Frontier Corps said in a recent statement that the trench would “not only help in effectively controlling the movement of drug and arms and ammunition smugglers, but also will help in stopping the intrusion of terrorists and illegal immigrants

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as North-West Frontier Province or NWFP) is one of the four provinces of Pakistan. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa borders Afghanistan to the north-west, Gilgit-Baltistan to the north-east, Azad Jammu & Kashmir to the east, the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) to the west and south, and Punjab and the Islamabad Capital Territory to the south-east.

The Vale of Peshawar was home to the Kingdom of Gandhara from around the 6th century BC and later ancient Peshawar became a capital of the Kushan Empire. The British Raj and birth of NWFP after the Durand Line Agreement
A series of conflicts known as the Anglo-Afghan Wars during the imperialist Great Game, wars between the British and Russian governments, led to the eventual dismemberment of Afghanistan into NWFP, Baluchistan and Khurasan. Divide and rule policy and the annexation of NWFP and Baluchistan region led to the demarcation of the Durand Line and administration as part of British South Asia.
The Durand line is a poorly marked 1,519-mile (2,445 km) border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. After fighting in two wars against Afghans, the British succeeded in 1893 in imposing the Durand line, dividing Afghanistan from the NWFP, Baluchistan, FR regions, FATA which were incorporated into what was then British India. It was agreed upon by representatives of both governments.
The international boundary line separating two countries was named after Sir Mortimer Durand, foreign secretary of the British colonial government, who in 1893 had negotiated with Abdur Rahman Khan, the Amir of Afghanistan, on the frontier between modern-day Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Areas annexed from Afghanistan were the FATA, NWFP and Balochistan provinces of Pakistan, the successor state of British India and the successor Iranian state of Khorasan.

Mortimer Durand
Sir Henry Mortimer Durand, GCMG KCSI KCIE (14 February 1850 – 8 June 1924) was a British diplomat and civil servant of colonial British India.
Background
Born at Sehore, Bhopal, India, he was the son of Sir Henry Marion Durand, the Resident of Baroda and he was educated at Blackheath Proprietary School, and Tonbridge School.
Career
Durand entered the Indian Civil Service in 1873. During the Second Anglo-Afghan War (1878–1880) he was Political Secretary at Kabul. From 1884 to 1894, he was Foreign Secretary of India. Durand was appointed Minister plenipotentiary at Tehran in 1894 although despite being a Persian scholar and speaking the language fluently he made little impression either in Tehran or on his superiors in London. He left in 1900 by which time owing to the illness of his wife Ella he had withdrawn from social life and the legation was in a depressed and disorganised state. From 1900 to 1903 he served as British Ambassador to Spain, and from 1903-1906 as Ambassador to the United States of America. He was appointed a CSI in 1881 knighted a KCIE in 1888 and a KCSI in 1894 and appointed a GCMG in 1900.

Afghanistan was considered by the British as an independent princely state at the time, although the British controlled its foreign affairs and diplomatic relations.
The single-page agreement which contains seven short articles was signed by Durand and Abdur Rahman Khan, agreeing not to exercise interference beyond the frontier Durand Line. A joint British-Afghan demarcation survey took place starting from 1894, covering some 800 miles of the border. The resulting line later established the "Great Game" buffer zone between British and Russian interests in the region. They are accustomed to moving back and forth freely and in some cases own land on both sides.
The trench is being built in Pakistan's Balochistan province, where Baloch rebels have been battling Islamabad demanding greater autonomy and a larger share of the region's oil, gas, copper and gold.

The one that became widely known in September 2008 was condemned as a provocation by the Pakistani government.
