The 21st century has been hailed as the century of women. Yet a recent Google search shows just how much prejudice and discrimination towards women and gender equality persist. The Autocomplete Truth builds on the international viral success of the print/web "Autocomplete Truth" advertising campaign (http://bit.ly/19zW628) from UN Women, developed by Memac Ogilvy & Mather Dubai that first revealed the depth of that discrimination. The video argues that at this point in history, popular perception should be different and women should be seen as equal.

For men in Egypt and in many other countries in the Middle East, there is a peculiar taboo of not disclosing one's mother’s name in public, lest her name become a subject of shame and ridicule in public forums. Over time, her name becomes forgotten and she’s only referred to as ‘The mother of her eldest son’. UN Women’s 'Give Mom Back Her Name’ initiative is simple yet powerful and aims to take steps to eradicate this taboo and giving mother’s in Egypt and the Middle East their names back in public fora.
Mohammed Naciri, UN Women Regional Director, says, “ A woman's name should never be associated with shame or embarrassment - this mother's day, we are reclaiming that space and recognizing women for the incredible individuals they are, not only as the mother of her eldest son.”
The initiative is created together with IMPACT BBDO Dubai and aims to open a larger conversation of women´s rights and gender equality in the Middle East and the world.
While the region has many challenges to overcome to reach gender equality, such initiatives aim to change the fabric of society at community levels; including questioning cultural norms and ultimately striving towards building an inclusive, equal society.

بالنسبة للرجال في مصر والعديد من الدول العربية بالشرق الأوسط، يوجد أحد المحرمات الخاصة بعدم كشف اسم الأم على الملأ وفي الأماكن العامة، وإلا أصبح ذلك مدعاة للخزي وموضوعًا للسخرية في التجمعات العامة. ومع مرور الوقت، يصبح اسمها قيد النسيان، ويتم الإشارة إليها بأنها "أم فلان" بذكر اسم أكبر أبنائها.
تعتبر حملة "أعِد للأم اسمها" من هيئة الأمم المتحدة للمرأة مباردة بسيطة لكنها قوية، وتسعى لاتخاذ خطوات للقضاء على تلك الممنوعات، وإعطاء الإمهات في مصر والشرق الأوسط حق أسمائهن في الأماكن العامة.
يقول محمد الناصري، المدير الإقليمي لهيئة الأمم المتحدة للمرأة: "لا ينبغي أبدًا أن يكون هناك رابط بين اسم المرأة والخجل والحرج، وفي عيد الأم الحالي، ننتهز هذه المناسبة للاعتراف بجميل النساء، كل امرأة في حد ذاتها، وليس فقط كأم ابنها الأكبر".
وقد تم إطلاق هذه المبادرة بالتعاون مع IMPACT BBDO Dubai وتهدف لبدء نقاشات حول حقوق المرأة والمساواة بين الجنسين على نطاق واسع في الشرق الأوسط والعالم.
وفي الوقت الذي تجابه فيه منطقة الشرق الأوسط العديد من التحديات التي يجب التغلب عليها للوصول إلى المساواة بين الجنسين، تعتبر هذه المبادرات -التي تسعى لتغيير نسيج المجتمع عبر المجتمعات المحلية- وسيلةً لعقد محادثات تتناول القواعد الثقافية والأعراف، كما تهدف جوهريًا لبناء مجتمع شامل يتمتع بالمساواة.

South Sudan became the world's newest country on 9 July 2011 after decades of civil war and conflict. Women played a strong role in the popular referendum that resulted in the nation's independence from Sudan. Yet, the consequences of war -- which disproportionately affected South Sudan's women, leaving many of them illiterate, impoverished and widowed -- linger now, even though peace has come.
"UN Women in South Sudan" provides a snapshot of the women we are supporting. Working with the government and other national partners, UN Women is engaging women in peace and security, supporting their economic empowerment and bolstering governance and leadership.
As part of a holistic, community-focused approach, UN Women is, among other things, supporting the construction of eight Women's Empowerment Centres. It is also partnering with UNESCO and Skills for South Sudan to provide adult functional literacy programmes in these communities. Take a look at the impact these efforts are already having in Mundri and Gangura, two communities in Western Equatoria state near the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

“Each one of us is needed—in our countries, communities, organizations, governments and in the United Nations—to ensure decisive, visible and measurable actions are taken under the banner: Planet 50-50: Step It Up for Gender Equality,” says UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka in her message.
The 2016 theme for International Women’s Day is “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality”. The United Nations observance on 8 March will reflect on how to accelerate the 2030 Agenda, building momentum for the effective implementation of the new Sustainable Development Goals. UN Women has started an ad campaign, showing how prevalent sexism is in our society by using google autofill. This video shows the results of google autofill around the world to show what global issues sexism and discrimination are.
The reason much of the developing world is left out of this is because at least where I am based, I was not able to get google autofill from many of those countries.

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson (born 15 April 1990) is an English actress and model.
Watson rose to prominence playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film series. Watson was cast as Hermione at the age of nine, having previously acted only in school plays. From 2001 to 2011, she starred in all eight Harry Potter films alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint. The initiative is created together with IMPACT BBDO Dubai and aims to open a larger conversation of women´s rights and gender equality in the Middle East and the world.
While the region has many challenges to overcome to reach gender equality, such initiatives aim to change the fabric of society at community levels; including questioning cultural norms and ultimately striving towards building an inclusive, equal society.

بالنسبة للرجال في مصر والعديد من الدول العربية بالشرق الأوسط، يوجد أحد المحرمات الخاصة بعدم كشف اسم الأم على الملأ وفي الأماكن العامة، وإلا أصبح ذلك مدعاة للخزي وموضوعًا للسخرية في التجمعات العامة. ومع مرور الوقت، يصبح اسمها قيد النسيان، ويتم الإشارة إليها بأنها "أم فلان" بذكر اسم أكبر أبنائها.
تعتبر حملة "أعِد للأم اسمها" من هيئة الأمم المتحدة للمرأة مباردة بسيطة لكنها قوية، وتسعى لاتخاذ خطوات للقضاء على تلك الممنوعات، وإعطاء الإمهات في مصر والشرق الأوسط حق أسمائهن في الأماكن العامة.
يقول محمد الناصري، المدير الإقليمي لهيئة الأمم المتحدة للمرأة: "لا ينبغي أبدًا أن يكون هناك رابط بين اسم المرأة والخجل والحرج، وفي عيد الأم الحالي، ننتهز هذه المناسبة للاعتراف بجميل النساء، كل امرأة في حد ذاتها، وليس فقط كأم ابنها الأكبر".
وقد تم إطلاق هذه المبادرة بالتعاون مع IMPACT BBDO Dubai وتهدف لبدء نقاشات حول حقوق المرأة والمساواة بين الجنسين على نطاق واسع في الشرق الأوسط والعالم.

Over time, her name becomes forgotten and she’s only referred to as ‘The mother of her eldest son’. UN Women’s 'Give Mom Back Her Name’ initiative is simple yet powerful and aims to take steps to eradicate this taboo and giving mother’s in Egypt and the Middle East their names back in public fora.
Mohammed Naciri, UN Women Regional Director, says, “ A woman's name should never be associated with shame or embarrassment - this mother's day, we are reclaiming that space and recognizing women for the incredible individuals they are, not only as the mother of her eldest son.”
The initiative is created together with IMPACT BBDO Dubai and aims to open a larger conversation of women´s rights and gender equality in the Middle East and the world.
While the region has many challenges to overcome to reach gender equality, such initiatives aim to change the fabric of society at community levels; including questioning cultural norms and ultimately striving towards building an inclusive, equal society.

بالنسبة للرجال في مصر والعديد من الدول العربية بالشرق الأوسط، يوجد أحد المحرمات الخاصة بعدم كشف اسم الأم على الملأ وفي الأماكن العامة، وإلا أصبح ذلك مدعاة للخزي وموضوعًا للسخرية في التجمعات العامة. ومع مرور الوقت، يصبح اسمها قيد النسيان، ويتم الإشارة إليها بأنها "أم فلان" بذكر اسم أكبر أبنائها.
تعتبر حملة "أعِد للأم اسمها" من هيئة الأمم المتحدة للمرأة مباردة بسيطة لكنها قوية، وتسعى لاتخاذ خطوات للقضاء على تلك الممنوعات، وإعطاء الإمهات في مصر والشرق الأوسط حق أسمائهن في الأماكن العامة.
يقول محمد الناصري، المدير الإقليمي لهيئة الأمم المتحدة للمرأة: "لا ينبغي أبدًا أن يكون هناك رابط بين اسم المرأة والخجل والحرج، وفي عيد الأم الحالي، ننتهز هذه المناسبة للاعتراف بجميل النساء، كل امرأة في حد ذاتها، وليس فقط كأم ابنها الأكبر".
وقد تم إطلاق هذه المبادرة بالتعاون مع IMPACT BBDO Dubai وتهدف لبدء نقاشات حول حقوق المرأة والمساواة بين الجنسين على نطاق واسع في الشرق الأوسط والعالم.

Yet, the consequences of war -- which disproportionately affected South Sudan's women, leaving many of them illiterate, impoverished and widowed -- linger now, even though peace has come.
"UN Women in South Sudan" provides a snapshot of the women we are supporting. Working with the government and other national partners, UN Women is engaging women in peace and security, supporting their economic empowerment and bolstering governance and leadership.
As part of a holistic, community-focused approach, UN Women is, among other things, supporting the construction of eight Women's Empowerment Centres. It is also partnering with UNESCO and Skills for South Sudan to provide adult functional literacy programmes in these communities. Take a look at the impact these efforts are already having in Mundri and Gangura, two communities in Western Equatoria state near the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Video material "Women's Network that resurrect villages" was developed by the Joint Integrated Local Development Programme, implemented by the Government of the Republic of Moldova with the assistance of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), and the financial support of the Government of Sweden.
The Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova Women's Network, (CALM WN) was created in December 2011, at the Conference "Strengthening women's participation and leadership in local government" with the participation of about 150 women representatives from different communities, who work in local government as elected and / or local officials, including women mayors and deputy mayors, heads and deputy heads of districts.
The Network has as goal the increase of women's participation in decision-making process in local government and within the Congress of Local Authorities of Moldova, increase women's visibility in promoting human rights based approach and gender mainstreaming. The Network commits itself to strengthen and develop the skills of women involved in local government as decision-makers.
Conceived as an excellent networking opportunity for women in local governments, CALM Women's Network advocates for promoting human rights based approach and gender mainstreaming in decentralization and local governance, provides a forum for exchanging ideas, knowledge and experience, and offers its members tools and methods necessary for a quality management.

Hunters from Outwest Farms located in Okeechobee, Florida have posted an image showing a massive, near 15-foot, 780 pound alligator they found and killed. According to CNN, the huge reptile was discovered on Saturday on one of the ponds located on a private ranch owned by Outwest Farms owner Lee Lightsey ... They were surprised when they came across this huge alligator instead ... I hate seeing a beautiful dinosaur like that killed.???? #RIP....
