Let's begin with Travels With Sheila's all time favorites - the infinite versions of pistachio baklava. Rolled, squares, squiggles, horns...probably all with different names but I could never find anyone to explain the differences between shapes. I walked around Eastern Turkey carrying small pastry boxes with honey oozing out of all corners. "Too Sweet" does not enter into my vocabulary...
The sparsely populated forested, hilly Kackar Mountains inhabited by the hardy Laz people changed dramatically once we crossed the Zigana pass and became arid. Stops to buy fresh figs and hazel nuts for the group as the Explore group moved further east into remote Turkey.

Erzurum is a city in eastern Turkey. It is the largest city and the eponymous capital of the Erzurum Province. The city is situated 1757 meters (5766 feet) above sea level. Erzurum had a population of 361,235 in the 2000 census. (by 2010 it increased to 367,250).
Erzurum, known as "The Rock" in NATO code, served as NATO's southeastern-most air force post during the Cold War. The city uses the double-headed Anatolian Seljuk Eagle as its coat-of-arms, a motif based on the double-headed Byzantine Eagle that was a common symbol throughout Anatolia and the Balkans in the medieval period.
Erzurum has some of the finest winter sports facilities in Turkey and hosted the 2011 Winter Universiade.
In ancient times, Erzurum existed under the Armenian name of Karin. During the reigns of the Artaxiad and Arsacid kings of Armenia, Karin served as the capital of the eponymous canton of Karin. After the partition of Armenia between the Roman Empire and Sassanid Persia in 387 AD, the city passed into the hands of the Romans. They fortified the city and renamed it Theodosiopolis, after Emperor Theodosius I. As the chief military stronghold along the eastern border of the empire, Theodosiopolis held a highly important strategic location and was fiercely contested in wars between the Byzantines and Persians. Emperors Anastasius I and Justinian I both refortified the city and built new defenses during their reigns.

Erzurum Province (Turkish: Erzurum ili ) is a Province of Turkey, in the Eastern Anatolia Region of the country. It is bordered by the provinces of Kars and Ağrı to the east, Muş and Bingöl to the south, Erzincan and Bayburt to the west, Rize and Artvin to the north and Ardahan to the northeast. The provincial capital is Erzurum.
Erzurum province is divided into 19 districts (capital district in bold):
The surface area of the province of Erzurum is the fourth biggest in Turkey. The majority of the province is elevated. Most plateaus are about 2,000 m (6,500 ft) above sea level, and the mountainous regions beyond the plateaus are 3,000 m (9,800 ft) and higher. Depression plains are located between the mountains and plateaus. The southern mountain ranges are Palandöken Mountains (highest peak Büyük Ejder 3,176 m high) and Şahveled Mountains (highest peak Çakmak Mountain 3,063 m high). The northern mountain ranges are the second row elevations of the North Anatolian Mountains, i.e. Mescit Mountains (highest peak 3,239 m), Kargapazarı Mountains (highest peak 3,169 m) and Allahuekber Mountains. The two depression plains between these mountainous areas are Erzurum Plains and Hasankale Plains.

Seeing a pornographic content may be a warm and exciting welcome for a few, but definitely not when it is cited on an official site of a brand as big as NASA. Yes, NASA’s official Twitter handle for Kepler and K2 was hacked and the hacker left after replacing the profile photo with a woman’s pic, renamed the account name and also tweeted a photo of a woman’s rear end dressed only in lacy red underwear ... ....
