Gutian people

The Guti (/ˈɡuːti/) or Quti, also known by the derived exonyms Gutians or Guteans, were a nomadic people of the Zagros Mountains in ancient times. They are often regarded as precursors of the modern Kurds.

Conflict with Gutium or Qutium (Sumerian: Gu-tu-um^ki or Gu-ti-um^ki) has been linked to the collapse of the Akkadian Empire, towards the end of the 3rd millennium BCE. The Guti subsequently overran southern Mesopotamia and formed, for several generations a royal dynasty of Sumer.

Sumerian sources portray the Guti as a barbarous and rapacious people from the mountains, presumably the central Zagros east of Babylon and north of Elam (on the border of modern Iran and Iraq). The Sumerian king list represents them as ruling over Sumer for a short time after the fall of the Akkadian Empire, and portrays Gutian rule as chaotic.

Biblical scholars believe that the Guti may be the "Koa" (qôa), named with the Shoa and Pekod as enemies of Jerusalem in Ezekiel 23:23.Qôa also means "male camel" in Hebrew, and in the context of Ezekiel 23, it may be a deliberate, insulting distortion of an endonym such as Quti.

Mesopotamia

Mesopotamia (/ˌmɛsəpəˈteɪmiə/, from the Ancient Greek: Μεσοποταμία "[land] between rivers"; from Ancient Armenian՝ Միջագետք(Mijagetq), Arabic: بلاد الرافدين‎ bilād ar-rāfidayn; Persian: میان‌رودان‎‎ miyān rodān; Syriac: ܒܝܬ ܢܗܪܝܢ‎ Beth Nahrain "land of rivers") is a name for the area of the Tigris–Euphrates river system, roughly corresponding to modern-day Iraq, Syria and Kuwait, including regions along the Turkish-Syrian and Iran–Iraq borders.

Widely considered to be the one of the cradles of civilization by the Western world, Bronze Age Mesopotamia included Sumer and the Akkadian, Babylonian, and Assyrian empires, all native to the territory of modern-day Iraq. In the Iron Age, it was controlled by the Neo-Assyrian and Neo-Babylonian Empires.

The indigenous Sumerians and Akkadians (including Assyrians and Babylonians) dominated Mesopotamia from the beginning of written history (c. 3100 BC) to the fall of Babylon in 539 BC, when it was conquered by the Achaemenid Empire. It fell to Alexander the Great in 332 BC, and after his death, it became part of the Greek Seleucid Empire.

Mesopotamia (EP)

Mesopotamia is an album by new wave band The B-52s. It was produced by David Byrne of Talking Heads and was the band's third studio album. Due to conflicts with Byrne and record label pressure, recording sessions were aborted prematurely and only six of ten songs to be completed were released as an shorter than originally intended LP. The record was distributed as a 12" LP by Warner Bros. in the US and by Island Records on both CD and vinyl in the UK and other non-US markets.

The original Island Records vinyl release in the UK contained different mixes of all the songs, three of which ("Loveland," "Cake" and "Throw That Beat in the Garbage Can") were drastically different and substantially longer than the American release. This was an error, and the discs were quickly recalled and reissued with the correct versions of "Cake" and "Garbage Can" reinstated. However, the extended "Loveland" remained. The Island CD release was the same as the American LP as per the band's request. However, the 1991 US release of the CD (paired with Party Mix!), included a newly remixed version of Mesopotamia that is different from the original US LP.

Guti (footballer)

José María Gutiérrez Hernández (born 31 October 1976), known as Guti, is a Spanish retired footballer who played as an attacking midfielder.

During his professional career, he played almost exclusively for Real Madrid – appearing in more than 500 official games and serving as vice-captain – helping the club to 15 trophies, most notably three UEFA Champions League and five La Liga titles.

Guti played 13 times with Spain, making his debut in 1999.

Born in Torrejón de Ardoz, Community of Madrid, Guti began playing for Real Madrid's cantera in 1986, initially as a striker but being later moved to midfield, and remained there for the vast majority of his career. On 2 December 1995 he made his first-team debut against Sevilla FC, with Real Madrid winning 4–1; he finished the season with one goal in nine appearances.

In 1997 Guti added two trophies to his cabinet, La Liga and the Supercopa de España, playing 17 games during the season and scoring once. In 1997–98, he helped the Merengues lift the UEFA Champions League and the Intercontinental Cup, while the player himself added the UEFA U-21 Championship.
