HOMEBROS X MOVES MAGAZINE Present ‘Les Sapeurs’ Feat HomeFam
This year we collaborated with Moves magazine on this special visual project - ‘Les Sapeurs’
Inspired by Congolese La Sape culture, ‘Les Sapeurs’ reimagines the escapism and explores the expressionism of Les Sapeurs in the context of East London.
Referencing the environment and culture that molded them, this body of work highlights the importance of expressing yourself through dance and creativity; something that has allowed renowned movement artists, Kurtis ‘Kurtyswift’ Agyekem (@kurtyswift) and George ‘Unkle TC’ Duker (@unkle.tc) to break out their environment and ultimately inspire a generation of movers in their community and beyond.

COFFEE TABLE BOOK | 20 Years of Progress | New York Moves
In the Moves universe, the definition of a Power Woman is one who can influence and inspire with an ability to effect positive change and always an awareness of consequence. The very concept of power is multifaceted—often misunderstood and most certainly abused. But a Moves Power Woman is dedicated to making a difference: strong, savvy, and successful, she leads by example and exemplifies her individuality in the process. These women are role models for future generations.
Moves Magazine was started 20 years ago with a simple ethos: “Any one woman is worth any ten men.” A polemic, an idle boast, even the stuff of fantasy you might say; but an eight-word, single line proclamation that started many conversations, ignited heated arguments, and left no one in any doubt of our position: a pos...

At the 2023 Moves Diversity Awards, Rachel Cirelli, Director of the Center of Career Development at Manhattan College, discussed her ongoing journey to overcome imposter syndrome.
“I spent the first half of my career trying to fit into spaces that really didn’t have room for someone like me,” she said. “It’s now my job to move forward and very much influences the spaces I’m in — to be authentically me, so those spaces will want me and encourage me to affect them.”

Netflix's Emily in Paris | Fall 2020 New York Moves Magazine
Just when we thought that there was nothing in 2020 that could bring Americans together, Emily in Paris came out on Netflix, uniting Americans and even Parisians in a passionate outcry. Nearly every media outlet and Twitter account wrote a hot take on the show, criticizing everything from the prevalence of belted outfits to Emily’s work ethic. It’s the show we love to hate.

Moves Magazine was started 20 years ago with a simple ethos: “Any one woman is worth any ten men.” A polemic, an idle boast, even the stuff of fantasy you might say; but an eight-word, single line proclamation that started many conversations, ignited heated arguments, and left no one in any doubt of our position: a position backed up and borne out by the obvious imbalance in our society’s priorities and values.
The women portrayed in this collection—21st Century Women—embody this truth. Pioneers, leaders, and even visionaries who have shattered glass ceilings with one eye on the future and one eye on the women who are coming up behind them. They defied expectations and crafted new possibilities. In these pages, you’ll find an archive of photoshoots taken nationwide and internationally.
We spent the spring and summer photographing power women from the past 20 years as well as this year’s 2023 honorees. Each picture celebrates contributions to diverse fields such as technology, arts, business, science, politics and social activism.
Each year for two decades, the work that goes into putting together the Power Issue is nothing short of remarkable. Months of research and round table discussions on potential honorees, reaching out to invite involvement, coordinating schedules, story-boarding, shoot production, and weaving it all together in a powerful theme that pervades each issue.
As we turn the page on 20 years together, let us celebrate these women and their stories, not just as individual achievements, but as collective milestones in the ongoing pursuit of gender equality and empowerment. This book is a tribute to the resilience of women, an homage to their strengths, and a testament to the extraordinary heights they can reach when they are given the opportunity to soar.
There are too many people to thank, from photographers, artists of hair and makeup, stylists, publicists, shoot locations and staff, to the sponsors, advertisers, event staff and gala attendees. On behalf of the magazine, I thank you.
Welcome to 20 years of Moves Power Women.

Moves Magazine advocates for women’s rights, social fairness and equal opportunity to its readers.
