The Great Rann of Kutch is a seasonal salt marsh located in the Thar Desert in the Kutch District of Gujarat, India and the Sindh province of Pakistan. It is about 7,505.22 square kilometres (2,897.78 sq mi) in size and is reputed to be one of the largest salt desert in the world. This area has been inhabited by the Kutchi people.
The name "Rann" comes from the Hindi word ran (रण) meaning "desert". The Hindi word is derived from Sanskrit/Vedic word iriṇa (इरिण) attested in the Rigveda and Mahābhārata. As early as 325 BCE, Alexander the Great was aware of the area.

Hi guys , today's video is the last part of my 10 day gujarat trip. on day 8, we went to the great rann of kutch which is a seasonal salt marsh located in the thar desert in the kutch district of Gujarat and the sindh province of Pakistan. It is reputed to be one of the largest salt deserts in the world.
After spending a day in kutch, we went back to our homestay. The next day we boarded a train from Bhuj back to Delhi. And that was the end of our trip and also my gujarat vlogs.

This world's largest salt desert offers stunning views on full moon night that can't be missed.. When the whole white rann reflects the moon light..
During this trip I had touched the westernmost tip of India.. Also, I rode 928 km in 14 hours from Mandavi to Mumbai.. That was longest ride I ever did..

Location and description
The Great Rann of Kutch, along with the Little Rann of Kutch and the Banni grasslands on its southern edge, is situated in the district of Kutch and comprises some 30,000 square kilometres (10,000 sq mi) between the Gulf of Kutch and the mouth of the Indus River in southern Pakistan. The marsh can be accessed from the village of Kharaghoda in Surendranagar District.
In India's summer monsoon, the flat desert of salty clay and mudflats, which average 15 meters above sea level, fills with standing water. In very wet years, the wetland extends from the Gulf of Kutch on the west through to the Gulf of Cambay on the east.

Rann of Kutch
Rann of Kutch (Kutchi language: કચ્છ જો રણ) is a large area of salt marshes located in mostly in Gujarat (primarily the Kutch district), India and the southern tip of Sindh, Pakistan. It is divided into two main parts; Great Rann of Kutch and Little Rann of Kutch.
Geography
The Rann of Kutch is located in the Thar Desert bio-geographic area in the Indian state of Gujarat with some parts in Pakistani province of Sindh. It is a seasonally marshy region, the word Rann meaning "salt marsh", alternating with medaks, elevated pieces of land where vegetation grows.
Kutch is the name of the district in Gujarat where this region is situated. The marsh covers a huge area of around 10,000 square miles and is positioned between the Gulf of Kutch and the mouth of the Indus River in southern Pakistan. To the northeast corner of the Rann of Kutch lies the Luni River, originating in Rajasthan.
Ecological importance
The Rann of Kutch is the only large flooded grasslands zone in the whole Indo-Malayan region. The fact that the area has desert on one side and the sea on the other provides the Rann of Kutch with a variety of ecosystems, including mangroves and desert vegetation. The grassland and deserts of the Rann of Kutch are home to forms of wildlife that have adapted to the often harsh conditions of this vast area. These include endemic and endangered animal and plant species.

Kutch district
Kutch district (also spelled as Kachchh) is a district of Gujarat state in western India. Covering an area of 45,652 km², it is the largest district of India. The population of Kutch is 21 Lac, literacy rate is 59.79% and the sex ratio is 951. It has 10 Talukas, 1389 villages and 6 Municipalities
Kutch literally means something which intermittently becomes wet and dry; a large part of this district is known as Rann of Kutch which is shallow wetland which submerges in water during the rainy season and becomes dry during other seasons. The same word is also used in the languages of Sanskrit origin for a tortoise. The Rann is famous for its marshy salt flats which become snow white after the shallow water dries up each season before the monsoon rains.
The district is also famous for ecologically important Banni grasslands with their seasonal marshy wetlands which form the outer belt of the Rann of Kutch.
Kutch District is surrounded by the Gulf of Kutch and the Arabian Sea in south and west, while northern and eastern parts are surrounded by the Great and Little Rann (seasonal wetlands) of Kutch. When there were not many dams built on its rivers, the Rann of Kutch remained wetlands for a large part of the year. Even today, the region remains wet for a significant part of year. The district had a population of 1,583,500 of which 30% were urban as of 2001. Motor vehicles registered in Kutch district have their registration Number starting with GJ-12. The district is well connected by road, rail and air. There are four airports in the district, Naliya,Kandla, Mundra, and Bhuj, which is well connected with Mumbai. Being a border district, Kutch has both and an army and an airforce base.

Rann (fictional planet)
Rann is a fictional planet in the Polaris star system (formerly the Alpha Centauri System) of the DC Comics Universe whose capital city is Ranagar. Rann is most famous for being the adopted planet of the Earth explorer and hero Adam Strange and for their teleportation device called the Zeta Beam. The planet Rann, along with her famous non-native son, first appeared in Showcase #17 (November–December 1958).

Natives of Rann, known as Rannians, are for all intents and purposes the same as Earth-based humans. However, years of reclusive living and apathy brought on by reliance upon their technologically advanced machinery resulted in a society which had stagnated. While entirely apt to continue for some time, Rannians found their gene pool to have deteriorated, resulting in a sterile culture. For decades, no children were born, until Adam Strange fathered a child with Alanna, daughter of Sardath, the man who invented the Zeta Beam. Their daughter, Aleea, remained on Rann with her mother.

The Great Rann of Kutch is a seasonal salt marsh located in the Thar Desert in the Kutch District of Gujarat, India and the Sindh province of Pakistan. It is about 7,505.22 square kilometres (2,897.78 sq mi) in size and is reputed to be one of the largest salt desert in the world. This area has been inhabited by the Kutchi people.
The name "Rann" comes from the Hindi word ran (रण) meaning "desert". The Hindi word is derived from Sanskrit/Vedic word iriṇa (इरिण) attested in the Rigveda and Mahābhārata. As early as 325 BCE, Alexander the Great was aware of the area.

Hi guys , today's video is the last part of my 10 day gujarat trip. on day 8, we went to the great rann of kutch which is a seasonal salt marsh located in the thar desert in the kutch district of Gujarat and the sindh province of Pakistan. It is reputed to be one of the largest salt deserts in the world.
After spending a day in kutch, we went back to our homestay. The next day we boarded a train from Bhuj back to Delhi. And that was the end of our trip and also my gujarat vlogs.

* Kutch district (also spelled as Kachchh) is a district of Gujarat state in western India. Covering an area of 45,652 km²,[1] it is the largest district of India. The population of Kutch is 2,092,371.[2] It has 10 Talukas, 939 villages and 6 Municipalities.[2]
* Kutch literally means something which intermittently becomes wet and dry; a large part of this district is known as Rann of Kutch which is shallow wetland which submerges in water during the rainy season and becomes dry during other seasons. The same word is also used in Sanskrit origin for a tortoise. The Rann is famous for its marshy salt flats which become snow white after the shallow water dries up each season before the monsoon rains.

The Great Rann of Kutch is a seasonal salt marsh located in the Thar Desert in the Kutch District of Gujarat, India and the Sindh province of Pakistan. It is about 7,505.22 square kilometres in size and is reputed to be one of the largest salt deserts in the world.This area has been inhabited by the Kutchi people.
The name Rann comes from the Hindi word ran meaning desert. The Hindi word is derived from Sanskrit Vedic word iriṇa attested in the Rigveda and Mahābhārata. As early as 325 BCE, Alexander the Great was aware of the area.

The Great Rann of Kutch, along with the Little Rann of Kutch and the Banni grasslands on its southern edge, is situated in the district of Kutch
In India's summer monsoon, the flat desert of salty clay and mudflats, which average 15 meters above sea level, fills with standing water. In very wet years, the wetland extends from the Gulf of Kutch on the west through to the Gulf of Cambay on the east.
The area was a vast shallow of the Arabian Sea until continuing geological uplift closed off the connection with the sea, creating a vast lake that was still navigable during the time of Alexander the Great. The Ghaggar River, which presently empties into the desert of northern Rajasthan, formerly emptied into the Rann of Kutch, but the lower reaches of the river dried up as its upstream tributaries were captured by the Indus and Ganges thousands of years ago. Traces of the delta and its distributary channels on the northern boundary of the Rann of Kutch were documented by the Geological Survey of India in 2000.
There are sandy islets of thorny scrub, forming a wildlife sanctuary and a breeding ground for some of the largest flocks of greater and lesser flamingos. Wildlife, including the Indian wild ass, shelter on islands of higher ground, called bets, during the flooding.

In India the northern boundary of the Greater Rann of Kutch forms the International Border between India and Pakistan, it is heavily patrolled by India's Border Security Force BSF and Indian Army conducts exercises here to acclimatize its troops to this harsh terrain.

The Government of Gujarat hosts an annual 3 month long festival during winter called the Rann Utsav festival of the Rann where tourists can see the various sights of the Rann. For 2016, rann utsav- starts from 1 November 2016.

During this trip I had touched the westernmost tip of India.. Also, I rode 928 km in 14 hours from Mandavi to Mumbai.. That was longest ride I ever did..

Mandvi was founded by the Rao of kutch State, Khengarji I in 1580.[3]

The city Mandvi was named after Sage Mandavya (Mahabharata story), who lived here. He was also known as AM BABA.
As per chronicles of Kutch Gurjar Kshatriyas - many clans of their community, especially, Gohil, Bhatti, Jethwa, Solanki, Rathod clans & also Visavaria Brahmins shifted to Mandvi in between 15th to 16th Century AD, from Dhaneti.[4]
The establishment of the town dates back to the late 16th century (1581 AD) and is attributed to the first Jadeja ruler of Kutch, Rao Khengarji I.
In the 18th century, the Mandvi merchants collectively owned a fleet of 400 vessels trading with East Africa, Malabar coast and the Persian Gulf. In the early 19th century, it was a major port of entry for the inland trade with Malwa, Marwar and Sindh.
Mandvi was at the junction of two famous trade routes the maritime spice trade-route and the desert camel caravan route, acting as an important trade center.
Mandvi was originally a fortified town having a fort wall of about 8 m high and 1.2 m wide stone masonry. The fort had several gateways and 25 bastions; but at present, most of the wall has disappeared. The bastion on the southwest is largest and acts as a lighthouse.
In the heyday of maritime trade, before the arrival of steamboats, Mandvi was a rich and prosperous town, earning four times more revenue from export than import. It was a profit-making center of the Kutch state, surpassing the capital city of Bhuj in terms of wealth. Dr.Manubhai Pandhi, a local social leader, recorded shipbuilding art and collected old documents which is treasured now in Prince of Wales Museum (www.bombaymuseum.org ) in Mumbai.
As most of the top ports of India were controlled by Europeans, especially the Portuguese, even the Mughals held the Maharaos of Kachchh in high esteem, as they needed the port of Mandvi for exports, imports and also for pilgrimages to Mecca.
In decade of 1960, the famous Dabeli is said to have been invented here by Keshavji Gabha Chudasama (Malam).

Hi guys , today's video is the last part of my 10 day gujarat trip. on day 8, we went to the great rann of kutch which is a seasonal salt marsh located in the thar desert in the kutch district of Gujarat and the sindh province of Pakistan. It is reputed to be one of the largest salt deserts in the world.
After spending a day in kutch, we went back to our homestay. The next day we boarded a train from Bhuj back to Delhi. And that was the end of our trip and also my gujarat vlogs.

Hi guys , today's video is the last part of my 10 day gujarat trip. on day 8, we went to the great rann of kutch which is a seasonal salt marsh located in the thar desert in the kutch district of Gujarat and the sindh province of Pakistan. It is reputed to be one of the largest salt deserts in the world.
After spending a day in kutch, we went back to our homestay. The next day we boarded a train from Bhuj back to Delhi. And that was the end of our trip and also my gujarat vlogs.

Hi guys , today's video is the last part of my 10 day gujarat trip. on day 8, we went to the great rann of kutch which is a seasonal salt marsh located in the thar desert in the kutch district of Gujarat and the sindh province of Pakistan. It is reputed to be one of the largest salt deserts in the world.
