Important Advice for Norfolk Island residents

Documents of Identity to facilitate travel between Norfolk Island and other Australian destinations will no longer be issued from 1 July 2016.  

From 1 July 2016 Norfolk Island residents travelling to and from other Australian destinations should consult with the airline on identity or travel documents required to facilitate check-in.  Norfolk Island residents who require a travel document after  1 July 2016 must apply and pay for an Australian passport.   

From 1 July 2016, passport applications must be lodged in person at the new Australia Post office in the P&R grocery store at 6 Taylors Road.  Opening hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturdays.  Call 23474 for an appointment.

Closure of Newcastle Passport Office

The Newcastle Passport Office will cease providing client services on 30 June 2016. Passport clients will continue to be well served by Australia Post outlets that act as passport agencies in the Newcastle area

Proving your citizenship if one or both or your parents was an Australian permanent resident at the time of your birth

If you were born in Australia on or after 20 August 1986 and your parent/s was an Australian permanent resident, you must provide evidence of your own Australian citizenship with a citizenship certificate issued by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP). You will need to apply for this using Form 119 Application for evidence of Australian citizenship (pdf). You should take into account DIBP and passport processing times before booking any travel.

Your parent’s permanent residency visa is not acceptable as proof of your citizenship.

We are updating our paper application forms to reflect new passports legislation and policy. In the meantime, forms marked for expiry on 31 March 2016 will be accepted until 30 June 2016. New legislation and policy apply regardless of which form you use.
