Jeena Yahan is the 1979 film. Lekha is a teacher and Sekhar is a officegoer they are in love and get married. Their marriage is not the tradition religious one but court registered marriage. They marry as they dont belong to the same society and caste. Lekha also has friend Sushma (Zarina Wahab) who wants to marry Dinesh (Amol Palekar) against her father wish. All the friends live in big city Bombay (Mumbai) and belong to the working class their life revolves around family and work. They once again meet at their friend Hshipra (Vidya Sinha) who just started a Art school. As summer holidays approach Shekar send Lekha to his native place. Lekha get to see his family and experience the rural life. Lekha notices Shekhar's sister Gauri is in love with Diwaker (Devindra) but her her mother (Dina Pathak) is against it. Lekha saves her from force marriage and bring Gauri to Bombay to start a life.
