Laura suspects that Joe needs full-time care, but Jayne hopes that their father's condition isn't that serious. Joe is still singing and playing his old guitar, and the lively widower even has a new "ladyfriend," shameless and sassy Shelly. But as the visible moments of their father's impending senility increase, so do the dysfunctional family dynamics. Tensions flare as the close sisters must also juggle their own very different lives - Laura's busy schedule as an environmentalist and mother of two small children, and Jayne, desperate to finally have a baby with her workaholic art-dealing husband Jackson. Their adventures back home are not without magic, mischief and mayhem, and even a search for buried treasure in the backyard! Any tears that Jayne and Laura might shed will be happy ones.

Ardeth Bay: Why can't you people ever keep your feet on the ground?
Ardeth Bay: Wherever this man is, your wife will surely be.::Alex: [Alex rips the picture out of Ardeth's hands] Hey, I know him. He's the curator. He works at the British Museum.::Ardeth Bay: Are you sure?::Rick: You better believe him, he spends more time there then he does at home.
Ardeth Bay: [to Alex] By putting this on, you have started a chain reaction that could bring about the next apocalypse. [Alex gasps]::Rick: [to Ardeth] You, lighten up. [to Alex] You, big trouble. [to Jonathan] You, get in the car.
Alex: Hey. The Book of the Dead.::Meela: What a bright little child. Your mother must be missing you terribly. If you wish to see her again, you better behave.::Alex: Lady, I don't behave for my parents, what makes you think I'm going to do it for you?::Lock-Nah: Silence!::Meela: Because your parents wouldn't slip poisonous snakes in your bed while you were sleeping.
Rick: [witnessing Imhotep's resurrection] You know, a couple of years ago, this would have seemed really strange to me.
Alex: My dad is going to kick your ass.::Imhotep: I do not think so.
Rick: This is bad, Evy.::Evelyn: We've had bad before.::Rick: This is worse.
Izzy: [to Rick] Whatever it is, whatever you need, I don't care. Forget it, O'Connell. Every time I hook up with you, I get shot. Last time I got shot in the ass. I'm in mourning for my ass!
Alex: Are we there yet?::Lock-Nah: No.::Alex: Are we there yet?::Lock-Nah: No.::Alex: Are we there yet?::Lock-Nah: No.::Alex: Are we... [Lock-Nah stabs his knife right between Alex's fingers] Whoa, that was amazing! Perfect aim.::Lock-Nah: What are you talking about? I missed.

Plot: In 1921 a field expedition in Egypt discovers the mummy of ancient Egyptian prince Im-Ho-Tep, who was condemned and buried alive for sacrilege. Also found in the tomb is the Scroll of Thoth, which can bring the dead back to life. One night a young member of the expedition reads the Scroll out loud, and then goes insane, realizing that he has brought Im-Ho-Tep back to life. Ten years later, disguised as a modern Egyptian, the mummy attempts to reunite with his lost love, an ancient princess who has been reincarnated into a beautiful young woman.

Taglines: It comes to life!
Quotes:
Helen Grosvenor: I loved you once, but now you belong with the dead. I am Anck-es-en-Amon, but I... I'm somebody else, too. I want to live, even in this strange new world.
Imhotep: You will not remember what I show you now, and yet I shall awaken memories of love... and crime... and death...
Frank Whemple: Stuck in the desert for two months, and was it hot! That tomb...::Helen Grosvenor: What tomb?::Frank Whemple: Surely you read about the princess?::Helen Grosvenor: So you did that.::Frank Whemple: Yes. The fourteen steps down and the unbroken seals were thrilling. But when we came to handle all her clothes and her jewels and her toilet things - you know they buried everything with them that they used in life? - well, when we came to unwrap the girl herself...::Helen Grosvenor: How could you do that?::Frank Whemple: Had to! Science, you know. Well after we'd worked among her things, I felt as if I'd known her. But when we got the wrappings off, and I saw her face... you'll think me silly, but I sort of fell in love with her.::Helen Grosvenor: Do you have to open graves to find girls to fall in love with?
Frank Whemple: Oh, I know it seems absurd when we've known each other such a short time. But I'm serious.::Helen Grosvenor: Don't you think I've had enough excitement for one evening, without the additional thrill of a strange man making love to me?
Doctor Muller: Look - the sacred spells which protect the soul in its journey to the underworld have been chipped off the coffin. So Imhotep was sentenced to death not only in this world, but in the next.::Assistant: Maybe he got too gay with the vestal virgins in the temple.::Doctor Muller: Possibly.
Doctor Muller: Put it back. Bury it where you found it. You have read the curse. You dare defy it?::Sir Joseph Whemple: In the interest of science, even if I believed in the curse, I'd go on with my work for the museum. Come back with me, and we'll examine this great find together.::Doctor Muller: I cannot condone an act of sacrilege with my presence.
Sir Joseph Whemple: [translating inscription on box] "Death... eternal punishment... for... anyone... who... opens... this... casket. In the name... of Amon-Ra... the king of the gods." Good heavens, what a terrible curse!::Ralph Norton: [eagerly] Well, let's see what's inside!
Ralph Norton: He went for a little walk! You should have seen his face!
Frank Whemple: You seem to think this thing has all the devils of hell in it. Why not burn it and be done with it?::Doctor Muller: An excellent sugggestion...
Doctor Muller: Burn the scroll, man. Burn it! It was through you this horror came into existence.
